Must have been that HGH he took "one time" back in 2002 right?

All kidding aside, he's really gotten better with age.

Yeah maybe 2X who knows but I don't see him banging it like the guys of today....he is a pitcher that relies purely on control, spot, and out-guessing hitters....if he used it for "recovery" like Sosa and Bonds supposedly did that theory is out the window as well...

Just seeing the guy work like you have and knowing him I do believe he dabbled in it a few times back then and doesnt know.....he downfall was training with that other lobhead from Texas.....

Greg Maddux did the same at the end of his career, once his velo drop he painted black and it bought him another 3 years on his career....

Again, it all goes back to command, control and movement of your pitches. If you can throw 100 mph but it's flat or straight or you have no clue where it's going you're not going to have long success at the big league level.

I will say it is remarkable just how well Pettitte has pitched these past few years, kudos to him. He's a better pitcher now then he was at 22 or 32. Perhaps that year off to rest up his arm did wonders to his body. You might see more pitchers doing that as they get older.

I think the only reason he took that year off is because he didnt want to deal with that trial AND play ball at the same time......you?

I think it was more about his body breaking down. Remember he only pitched in 3 games after July and was pretty bad in those starts, although was pretty good in his 2 post season starts. He was pretty beat up, I believe it was his back and possibly arm barking a bit.

One thing to be on the look out for is if he stays healthy the whole year how his body will hold up. He hasn't thrown over 130 innings since 2010 and was limited to only 75 innings last year due to a broken ankle (which might have been a blessing for him and the Yankees).

I think its up to the police discretion whether or not you were impaired. If he feels like you were, he can make the arrest, despite blowing a .062. I think.

I am disappointed that he is drinking hey I know it happens all the time whatever, but for a prospect trying to make it, come on bro....it is grind time, not drink time...

He was swerving all over the road, So i think the charges will be dropped down to something else. The officer should have just had him call a friend and towed his car.

I know that, but still, wont prevent him getting arrested to begin with. Hes going to get off, but needs to be careful. Not worth risking your career but more importantly your life. One of my biggest pet peeves are people who drive drunk.

I don't have a problem at all with the officer arresting him. Your main goal is to protect the road, and if the roads were safer with him off it, then you got to do it, no matter who the person is.

    Reese Witherspoon disagrees.

Well said though. I've been on record numerous times on these boards that I find it funny/sad the MLB or other pro sports leagues don't have penalties for DUIs. It just sends the wrong message. Take a PED or a sustance on the band list and you're gone for 50 games. Drink and drive and you're back on the field the next day, no questions asked, not even a slap on the wrist. Which one do you think is worse? And the sad thing is you can't even say "wait until player kills someone else or himself then things will change" because both have happened and nothing has changed. But please MLB keep trying to get all of that PED info in Miami, that's really important right?

    Right.....at the most, driving infractions....tickets...

It is an embarrassment for an officer to pop a person under the limit, ARREST them, and then drag him in for the whole booking process etc...

Why? According to reports Williams was speeding and swerving, then failed the field tests. Just because his BAL was at the "legal limit" doesn't mean he wasn't driving under the influence or wasn't a danger to himself or others on the road.

I'm not saying to lock the guy up and throw away the key but he is in no way 100 innocent in this and was simply being picked on. I'm sure there are tons of examples of people having BAL below/above the legal limit and being fine/or a total mess.

Exactly. So you are perfectly fine driving .079 BAC but if its .08 then you are breaking the law and a ****ty person? If the officer thinks he is a danger to the road, I rather be safe then sorry.

The simple fact is the time, money and effort hauling MW in for that took a guy off the road who could have been patrolling streets for heavier crimes, it just wasn't smart.....if he was over the limit sure bring him in....but he was even .08 or .079 he was below that.....the guy basically has a beer and 1/3 of another in hour plus.....just not smart policing.....like somebody said make him park the car, grab the keys and make him get them the next day.....write him a few tickets to the tune of 200 and he will learn his lesson....they even could have the desk sgt call the organization and tell them.....remember what he got arrested for is a misdemeanor.....

as for the court thing it will go something like this IF it even goes to court.....

"you Honor admittedly what my client did was wrong and knows the ramifications of his actions on that night. As we all know here my client had labrum surgery that forced him to miss all of the 2012 season and he didn't play last night because it flared up. While causing pain for a short period of the trip, my clients inadvertently swerved a few times". ...etc etc etc...yada yada yada......we will meet in the back and give you a signed bat....

I mean stupid yes, and I hate it too but the law is the law and unfortunately given the treatment to sports players...it will get either busted down or he will do community service and be on probation for 1 year and everything goes away...

If you have the money, spend it. Yankees continue to put a winner on the field, they will continue to make enough money to pay these players. With that said, great win tonight yanks! I am telling you I really love what this team is doing. CC didn't have his stuff again, but he continue to give them innings. Yanks keep coming up clutch!

The Nova thing may not be as bad as you think....I am excited to see Nuno.....

Cervelli hurts because he was playing well, but Romine will get some time to shine. Possible showcase for a trade maybe down the road?

    BDH where are you bro?

When your starting catchers are Cervelli and Stewart I don't think any team should be looking to trade any catching depth in their organization.

Right now he does although the main reason why the team is as good as they are is because their 4 SPers have been pretty good overall. The only FA pick ups that have really done anything have been Youkilis, Wells and Hafner as guys like Francisco, Nix Boesch and Overbay have been bad to really bad. I don't think Wells will hit .294/.358/.533/.911 all year especially after being awful for the past 2 to 3. But who knows, the power of the pinstripes right?

Bottom line is, if they or any team gets good SPing they will be there at the end. Also doesn't hurt having Cano in the line up either.

Catching depth across the league is pretty high right now and a few teams have good prospects close. Romine wont get anything good back....

So when you lose to the Astros, especially when you get blown out, shouldn't that count for two losses?

I was talking about that with somebody the other day, judging on pitching contracts doled out the past 2-3 seasons, if I were the GM I would offer him arbitration. If the number is under 15M, with the loss of the money in terms of expired contracts after this year, they can handle it. Also if he declines it, I would gladly take the first round pick.
