I would argue that taking Marino with the second-to-last pick in the first round was better value than Zach Thomas in the 5th round.

I think this is a great debate to be started. Both played with fire, both raised the play of those around them. Both were leaders on their perspective side of the ball. Zach really and truly was the QB of the defense for a long time. I think we should continue this discussion. I think it could be fun, from a full on analysis perspective.

IT was not just that we took Fletcher ahead of Brees, it was that we took a corner in the first round at ALL. I don't care if Jamar Fletcher had gone too 6 Pro Bowls, it still would have been a monumentally horrible decision.

The team had a thin offensive line, our running back position was manned by Lamar Smith and JJ Johnson, our tight ends were Goodwin and Weaver, our quarterbacks were Fiedler and Lucas. Darryl Gardener's back was starting too get wonky, Brommell and Mixon were going too be free agents in a year and Derrick "I've never made a single play" Rodgers was a starting linebacker.

It was a team full of holes or about too be full of holes. The one and ONLY position of long term strength was corner. We had Sam and Pat locked up too long term deals and they were in the their prime.

Only Dave ****ing Wannstedt would draft a ****ing zone corner to play in a man defense when we already had two starters (who were Pro Bowlers), a good third corner (Terry Cousin was a decent nickle) and needs in at least a half dozen positions.

    What a ****ing idiot.

People talk about the Eddie ****ing Moore pick. Fletcher was my Eddie ****ing Moore. My remote ended up in 10 pieces because of the pick. I was truly flabbergasted that someone could be that ****ing stupid.

Unfortunately, ****ing Wannstedt got even ****ing stupider as the years went on.

Todd Wade was actually a pretty decent player. Played 9 years, started around 80 games. Injuries got him early.

The poll says best and worst draft picks. Where is the selections for the best? Can we get one for that as well? I just like multiple choice radio buttons. I can't pass one by without selecting something... I must do it, I don't care if my option isn't there... I just have to click an option.

A zone corner coming into a man scheme with two Pro Bowl corners. ****ing Wannstedt.

I could see a lot of potential in Eddie Moore, but he never quite managed to get the light turned on. Every now and again you could see the light flicker and think that he might turn into quite a good player. A bit like Ted Ginn Jr in that respect, but unlike Ginn he wasn't a position of need when/where we picked him.

Other guys like John Avery or Jason Allen were complete washouts where the you knew the light switch had never been installed in the first place.

I would say that John Avery was a much worse pick than Eddie Moore. Heck injuries hurt Eddie Moore, more than anything.

I don't think that's fair to Jason Allen. To me he would flashed just enough to make the coaches think he was about to turn the corner but just never did. The guys been in the league for 6+ years now so coaches must see something in him. Avery on the other hand I agree with 100%.

you are right Unified, i think i labeled him beccause that draft we had virtuately no picks because of the Ricky williams trade.

most of our draft picks from A&M have been the worst as far as the olinemen are concerned.

has anyone ever thought about who was the worst 3rd and 4 th rd draft picks were ?

One plays QB. one doesn't. QB is that important.
