Based on film, I've seen Tavon Austin run quick outs, intermediate outs, corner routes, post routes, digs, snag routes, quick slants, hitches, wheel routes, and option routes. Basically, he has run the same routes that Randall Cobb ran this past year in the Green Bay version of Miami's offense.

Dearborn needs to tell Ireland & Philbin how much of a non scheme fit Austin is so we'll stop investing interest in him and instead allocate that time to guys who better fit our scheme.

If he has the ability to do that, I hope he does.

Jeez, at 12 you could potentially choose between star loutelei, Jarvis Jones and tavon austin

I suspect a tradeback with Dallas (18) for star, gaining a second, followed by...

S Kenny Vaccaeo (can't spell it)

Just a hunch

Not entirely. I like Austin. Just not at 12. There will be better prospects available at positions of need that I would rather take, IMO.

"Back in that same 2011 draft, the Green Bay Packers selected a receiver named Randall Cobb in the second round (64th overall pick). According to people familiar with the Packers organization, Philbin, who was then Green Bay's offensive coordinator, pushed for Cobb despite having a deep stable of receivers."

That is an opinion I don't share. I am very low on the prospects at 12. Unless it is Star.

In my opinion few players if any are better at their respective positions than Tavon is at his (out of who should be available at 12).

Personally, I look at it as-- those guys aren't special like a Clay Matthews, JPP, or Joe Haden, whereas Xfactor type slot receivers aren't easy to come by, as there's currently only 2 of them in the NFL, IIRC. We can find pass rushers and cornerbacks every year (including FA) but the same can't be said about a player with Tavon's ability & skill set. Plus there are some quality pass rushers and corners in the 2nd & 3rd round without seeing much fall off in terms of talent IMO, but there is a massive drop off in slot receiver talent after Tavon.

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mlLsnjleZeg

Talks about how he sees his running skill as that of Lamike James..lol, made that comparison before, and boy did I want James...oh we're justing talking about his running skills and vision, for which he put to test for 333 against the sooners.

His overall worth to a team is worth the 12 th pick..receiver..returner..running back.

spacing concepts is seemingly pretty hard for some to conceptualize..

Tavon Austin is a very confident individual, the kind where he knows he's the best.

FWIW I have a friend who has spoken directly to a person that was as close to that situation as can be, literally in the room during the draft, and that person insists Joe Philbin had nothing to do with Randall Cobb's drafting. Source was unequivocal about it.

All you got to do is past those links into the "insert video" window that pops up when you hit "insert video". After you paste it, replace the "m." before "youtube.com" with "www."

So paste this:
http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=niAAS8eiO3c

And change it to this:
http://www.youtube.com/#/watch?v=niAAS8eiO3c

I think Trufant is an excellent 2nd round pick.

Jones and Werner don't really excitement me much. Plus I think both of them are just as luxury picks as Austin.

Salivating over Tavon in a 'Phins uniform. But, either way, he is going to be fun to watch in the NFL.

I don't think anyone called Matthews or JPP "special" coming out of college into the draft. Gifted athletes sure, but as far as productivity goes, Jarvis Jones' numbers are what I'd call "special", especially having done what he did in the SEC.

That said, I think Tavon Austin is more likely to be picked than a CB or pass-rusher at 12, though given what Philbin's offense was in Green Bay, I'd have to hope Austin would be returning kicks and punts and using him in all sorts of variations offensively a la Cobb. I have a hard time justifying a 1st round being spent on a receiver unless it's a guy like A.J. Green, Larry Fitzgerald, or Calvin Johnson because I think any way you slice it, Tavon's not going to out produce guys like Wallace and Hartline in terms of catches so I'd hope Miami's got enough vision to provide him enough touches elsewhere to make the return on investment as worth it as it can be in spending the 12th overall pick on him.

I am fine with drafting a Hakim Nicks.

We are talking about the 12th pick in the draft, not the first or second.

Lol, I was gonna write drooling in my last post..

He's ridiculous..he's gonna get on top of some corners toes real fast..

What I like about him compared to the playmaking ability of a Reggie bush style of playmaking, is the compactness of his agility when he makes moves, its so tight, it's going to keep him from getting Injured some..

Comparatively speaking, I think Miami already has their "Hakeem Nicks" on the roster already. Though I agree with your perspective that Austin would be a luxury pick from the previous page. I'm not sure Miami's in a position to make luxury picks just yet, but hey, that's just me.

Totally agree. And I think he has the short area quickness of Welker (to go with the 4.3 speed) which means he can get open in the slot at any time he wants. Welker is almost automatic at 8-10 yards. I think Tavon can be the same (esp. as he learns the NFL). Except when he takes off he'll have more top end and more moves.

We don't need a slot receiver, though. Especially at 12. There will be other receivers in the second that could play at the slot as well as outside.

And I don't agree regarding Werner or Jones. They seem to be elite caliber prospects.

The truth is evey team has holes. The 2012 Baltimore Ravens are case and point. One way to cover holes to have overwhelming strenths. The Dolphins' passing attack has a ton of potential with Brian Hartline, Mike Wallace, Dustin Keller, and Brandon Gibson and an electrifying player like Tavon Austin can take it to an elite level. The Dolphins still have picks 42, 54, 77, and 82 to address their needs which are clearly cornerback, offensive tackle, and defensive end. I still think the Dolphins will trade a 2nd round pick for Branden Albert or Anthony Spencer. There will be plenty of talent in rounds two and three to fill needs.

Completely agree.

I also think the term "hole" needs to be defined properly, because its thrown around improperly and too much, IMO.
