Anyone who thinks the Pats uniform changes are why they started winning is a fool. Same with the Broncos. They both won due to coaching and personnel, and could have been wearing uniforms as plain as Penn State and still won the same.

Incorrect. I personally don't like the tail up b/c it's not the natural state of a dolphin while jumping.
upward arch, dolphin most associated with swimming.

downward curved arch, dolphin most associated with jumping.

With it jumping in front of a sunburst on the logo, the more natural posture of the dolphin is what it's always been; therefore, IMO, it's people who want change for the sake of change that would rather put the dolphin in a less orthodox jumping position than leave it in the position that looks most natural.

Okay I get what you're going for here...but for the last 40+ years its been wearing a helmet. This is at least more realistic than that/.

IMO, the current Pats logo looks terrible, and Flying Elvis is an apt description. But, I suppose I am a traditionalist when it comes to uniforms because IMO, the original Pats uniforms and logo were the 2nd best ever, after the Dolphins 1970s uniforms and logo. I admire teams like the Bears, Packers, Chiefs, Raiders, and Colts for sticking to tradition and would love for Miami to do the same.

I'm gonna let you in on a secret: Just because the Sun is in the background doesn't mean the Dolphin is jumping.

The Dolphin could be swimming, you could see the sun illuminating it through the water in the background, as you look up at it.

For that reason, I like it more.

Subtle hint the Dolphins are going to be back on top and everyone gets to look up at them.

The upward tail, IMO, looks like a playful frolicking dolphin, and I hate it as a logo. I suppose I'll have to get used to it though, but I doubt I'll ever like it.

Also I've never taken the Dolphin to be jumping....I thought of it more of as a pose between an orange circle. I don't know...I never even knew it was a sunburst until I heard someone say it. None of it really looks like what it's supposed to be.

Then why not keep the same pose for the dolphin, but just remove the helmet? Perhaps put an M behind the dolphin inside the sunburst.

Yea, until I was like 15 or 16, I thought it was supposed to be like a ring of fire that the Dolphin was jumping through.

    So i'm clear:

The swimming dolphin is not the natural position of a mammal that swims literally 24 hours a day and it make it looks like its fun and frolicking, and instead the dolphin should be in the jumping position which it rarely does except when its having fun and frolicking?

I'll be honest....I don't like the way the old dolphin looks at all, and the further back in time you go in my opinion the more ridiculous it looks. I'm all for tradition, but in my opinion it's something to be remembered and honored not endlessly stuck in because you (not you, just people in general) are afraid to change.

The traditional way to do complex math is with a pen and paper but I don't see anyone crap talking the calculator. We grow as people and as a society, we make changes and move forward. Some are better and some are worse...what is important is that we don't FORGET the past, not that we endlessly try to replicate or relive it.

The first couple of years the team was in existence, they had Flipper in a tank at the open end of the Orange Bowl, and after a score, as I recall, they'd have him jump through a hoop. So, when I was like 12-13, I thought the sunburst was just the hoop that Flipper was jumping through.

When dolphins jump for long distance and speed they lay their bodies out with the tail upwards to maintain balance:

Isn't this ALL opinion? It's subjective discussion of a logo.

Wouldn't you have to put that caveat on every post in this thread?

... and of the 27 older teams, look at ALL THE ONES that have maintained tradition. The majority of them have.
Much of the ones who opted for change are teams that either had a losing history or never won the dance (Bucs, Pats, Broncos, Bengals, Seahawks, Falcons, Eagles)

I did say IMO. In My Opinion. The comment was only referring to the pose in the logo. There are many photos of jumping dolphins in similar poses, just as there are many photos of jumping dolphins in an arched position.

Yes, and it's also hollow with white space in the middle and very jagged orange edges....

Come on guys we are getting TOO caught up in realism here

Yes, you're probably right. It just seems to me that some people try to express their opinion as if it were fact, and therefore I generally use the IMO caveat more than usual.

The examples of this aren't the typical examples of a jumping dolphin. You found a handful of exceptions. Good job. If I did a collage of downward arched dolphins jumping it'd take up pages upon pages of this thread. BTW, I removed the 2 pics that don't pertain b/c their bodies aren't severely arched upward like the logo.

I'm giving reasons for why the pose may have been selected. The dolphins are going the distance, with speed.

What's with the love for a "M" in the background? Cheesy as hell. We all know Miami starts with "M".

Alright....but again you guys love the logos where the dolphin is wearing A FOOTBALL HELMET. That isn't an exception or the norm. It's completely unrealistic. This is far less unrealistic than that....so if realism is the debate this logo certainly wins.

It's okay for you guys to just say you don't like the design of the new logo because of tradition and aesthetics.

Is the position realistic? Yes. Is the position nice to look at? IMHO no, it isn't. Does the position make a bad logo even worse? IMHO unfortunately yes, it does.

I'm still hoping the logo is fake... :praying:

I almost fell over laughing at that one.

Ultimately, this decision is made by Stephen Ross on what he can get the most money out of. a New look does that. Another logo derived from the 'classic' probably doesn't.

That's what it comes down to, money. Our opinions are nice, informed, but irrelevant.

    This is about CASH.

We all know New York is ny, that Green Bay starts with a G, Chicago with a C. Do you think their helmet logos are all cheesy too? Is it cheesy for the Chiefs to have KC inside the arrowhead on their helmets too?

It looks all white, as in the classic "blind" look you see in movies and TV. My initial impression stands, I am not a fan of the new logo. I do admit that may change when I see the logo in more detail and the entire "new look" on the actual players. It might, MIGHT even grow on me as time passes. A winning season and a playoff win would certainly help. Another losing season and the logo will be viewed as a failed and desperate attempt to "right the ship" while the fan base grows more indifferent.

I have no issue with those that like the new logo. I wish I felt the same, as the new look combined with the fresh hope a new season brings would be a nice combination.

    Miami Dolphins New Logo Thread

Some teams can pull it off others can't, teams like the Bears and packers had that letter logo for so long that its iconic if Miami had a M logo that worked then maybe. The giants are a hard team to come up with a alternate non lettering logo. That's my opinion of course. And also IMO, lettering logos work a lot better in baseball then the NFL. We're the dolphins, to have a lettering logo as or official would be stupid.

Also the jets logo sucks and it says JETS. So some teams it works, bears, packers, others it dosnt, Jets
