In crushing news to CK (ok, maybe not crushing), the Jets sign RB Mike Goodson this morning.

Update: Jets signed Mike Goodson to a three-year, $6.9 million deal.

    smart observation.

This is where Ireland has to "help" Jake Long "save face". I hope he does. The guy was a #1 overall pick and a top performer for this franchise, and the thought of Martin at LT makes me want to vomit.

Exactly. At this point it seems clear that Jake is looking for a reason to come back. He doesn't want to go to STL or it would've already been done.

Now we just have to give him the reason

Well...at least now we have some LB's that might be able to run him down.

Jamie Dukes continues to rip Wallace, and more especially his press conference and his comments about no pressure. He is already putting Long in St. Louis as well and is advocating Miami should have kept Bush. No Christmas cards from Miami this year Jamie.

I think he's probably fine with the players but not their contracts. I know many fans were/are thinking that CB was this big need we would address with big FAs and high picks, but I don't think that's ever been likely. The position in general has been devalued as the rules have neutered the position. Also the success of the pistol and running QBs in general will probably increase the use of zone coverage as well. But specifically in Miami, I see Coyle wanting to blitz and play zone behind it. That was how he was most successful in Cincy. The moves at LB also point to a move in that direction. So for primarily zone CBs we're probably not going after the big names. We'll look for smart players and good tacklers. I think you can make players like that out of the Nolan Carrols and Bryan McCanns of the world. That doesn't mean just anybody will do. You'll still need to find guys with athleticism and instincts, but you can find those in the bargain bin rather tahn having to pay the marquee name prices.

Has Miami shown any interest in Laurent Robinson? I believe he was cut by the Jags after a disappointing season, but I would be interested to see what he could do in Miami.

True- I would think if Miami can sign him to an incentive based contract he would be a great contributor on this team.

CK do you think they were looking at Bennett as depth? Werner is the guy in my mind. You have Davone Bess in the slot. I'm happy with that. A freak show on offense would be nice but a complete winner would be that much better.

I doubt Bennett would've been depth. They were probably going to make a go of sliding him over to the right side. He may have shied away from the idea.

@MikeKlis: I'm serious. Contract was not filed by 1:59 p.m. Elvis Dumervil informed Broncos he was taking the new deal at 1:25.

@MikeKlis: Broncos didn't get fax with Elvis Dumervil signature on contract until 2:07 p.m. -- 7 minutes and 1 second past the deadline!

Wild stuff on Dumervil right now: It's clock management. Agent made a "colossal mistake," source says, by not getting signed contract faxed.

    John Clayton ‏@ClaytonESPN
What a mess in Denver. They must have filed the Welker contract and gone over the cap. So Elvis has left the roster.

    Jeff Darlington ‏@JeffDarlington
Dumervil is now a free agent, and team faces potential salary cap implications as a result. Team and Dumervil agreed to terms at 1:35 MT.

That's mad, agent didn't fax the contract in time so officially released. Previous contract was guaranteed at 4pm ET, so he was released when signed new contract not received.

I'd love to have him, but he's got to be incensed. He's out $8 million bucks that he is never going to get back. the agency going to have to reimburse him the difference between that and whatever he eventually signs for

The Broncos did not file RE Elvis Dumervil's new contract in time, and he has been released.

Denver had until 4PM ET to submit the new deal to the league office, but they simply didn't get it in before the deadline because Dumervil didn't get his signature on the document until 4:07PM. The two sides had agreed to slash Dumervil's salary from $12 million to $8 million, so there is an agreement. We tentatively expect Dumervil to re-up with the Broncos, but he's now open to see what else is out on the market. It's doubtful Dumervil would find $8 million anywhere else, considering what Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett have signed for in recent days.

I dont think we will pay over 8 million .It would have to be higher as he was ready to accpt that Bronco deal before the foulup/

One could say the Elvis situation ahs nothing to do with being confused.

Free agent OLB Antwan Barnes left his Jets visit without a contract.

The Jets fail to land another player. New York was reportedly only willing to offer Barnes $2 million per year, and he's better off seeing what else is out there. Barnes has 14 sacks over the last two seasons.
