At some point one has to wonder why some of you cant just say something like..."you know, Ive said my piece and this is how I feel based on passed tape but I really hope Im wrong for the betterment of the Dolphins cause Im more of a phin fan then I am a prideful person who just wants to be right about this". And conversely some of you should just to the above person(s) something like..."well you may have some valid points based on past tape but past tape doesnt guarantee future failure". Cant we all just get along?
Mike Wallace can develop into a better route runner. That's what coaching is for. I'm not even sure he's as bad as you think he is, though.
We all have a ton of respect for KB and his knowledge of the game. We just don't agree with him on this subject as we just signed the guy and are giddy about it, and frankly, he's kind of pooping in the punch bowl a bit. It won't change my opinion of him as a poster though. We won't always agree on everything.
Are you kidding? KB is the clear cut MVP (Most valuable poster) in this forum today. You guys should cut him a check. He has participated in at least 15 debates, and has gone strong for like 12 straight hours. He is like Mel Kiper on Meth today. On Fiyah. He has made this day more fun than it really was.
I mentioned this earlier , last year Ireland emphatically said his job was to get the players Philbin wanted. Do we think in the course of one year the GM has distanced himself from that position? Do we believe the HC had little input , or wanted another wideout as the priority signing? I have no doubt Philbin wanted Wallace and has plans to utilize him to the teams best advantage , plus he is EXCITED by the possibilities to have him make a tangible difference to the W-L record. While I can see fans not having any signing as their preference , really we are to believe Philbin wasn't on board or had little input? That imo is preposterous.
Thats not what I was saying. I know you dont mean to be insulting (nor do I think you came across that way) but what i am saying is this thread is 19 pages deep and has been running for 8 hours or so and we're still having the same debate in circles that we had at the start of the thread. Neither side is changing their mind so just let bygones be bygones.
I guess Greg Cosell must not be watching the film: http://www.thefinsiders.com/blog/2013/cosell-breaks-down-top-free-agent-wide-receivers Or Bucky Brooks: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...greg-jennings-which-freeagent-prize-will-rise
Why hasn't he already done it then? He's had four years of college and four years of NFL coaching to get better at route running, and he still isn't good at it.
Yeah but that's kind of how message boards work, no? Hell, we saw the same stupid Ireland arguments everyday, every thread for a whole year. And they're still running on fumes. Besides, we'll have other stuff to talk about when we trade for Revis.
I don't think Boik is appreciating the greatest forum performance of all-time. This is a man that knows what he believes and god damn it, he is gonna make his case.
It takes more than a one trick pony to get into the endzone about 35 times in four years against NFL players KB.
All Im saying is keep it respectful...We're trying to clean things up and Im not trying to see the board divided as it was in the Ireland debates.
"Minimal at best". LOL. So what do you think was his "minimal at best" input? "I really don't want Wallace on this team. he doesn't run precise routes and he doesn't fit into our offense. I think he's a bad fit. Mike and I agree"? Then the guys who hired and signed off on the hiring of Phibin, told him: "Thanks for the input Joe. but Mr Ross and I disagree with you and I expect you to coach him up and you're going to fit him to your system however you can. End of story" ?
That's a good question. I don't know why. What I do know is, it's something that can come with good coaching. He's a Dolphin now. We'll see what they can do.
THAT is not what he is here for, he is here b/c he scores long Td's, not b/c he will run a dip dunk crossing route. Anyone else recall 1 yd routes last yr? D's played close to the LOS, he was cut a double digit million dollar check to stop that crap.
The more likely scenario: Stephen Ross: Getting Mike Wallace could potentially boost ticket sales and get us a new stadium deal. This is who you need to go after. Jeff Ireland: Joe, we are really looking at Mike Wallace. What do you think of him? Joe Philbin: His speed is nice...... Jeff Ireland: That's all I need to know. I will pursue him. I'll let you know the details later.
He brings much needed speed to this offense, especially with Bush on his way out. Let's not forget the reverse and screen game as well.
Deal! In all seriousness though, we may get angry at one another and go at eachother's throats, but there isn't any disrespect intended. We're all part of the same family in the big picture.
So, what else does he do? He's certainly not a redzone threat. He doesn't make tough catches over the middle. He's not very good at going up for the ball in jump ball situations. He's a piss poor blocker at wide receiver. I'm curious, what else does he do other than go deep?
He seems to cause a great deal of good-natured ribbing which should befuddle most cornerbacks, especially Revis. In fact I'll bet he wont even try.
An offensive coach has to be excited to add a player with rare speed that has been very productive , no?
that's all he needs to do. Every offense needs two types of receivers. One is a speed freak who can stretch the field and give you home run ability. The other is a third down receiver that when you need a third down conversion you can throw it his way with confidence. wallace is our speed guy. you pay up for speed. if i was going to ***** about overspending i would be doing it about ellerbe. there's a guy we overpaid for but if he gets us more qb pressure that may also be worth it
LOL!!! Sure. "His speed is nice". That's it??? OMG. Do you really believe this stuff? That's a joke. Well, it's good that. at least, Joe loves his speed like some of us do. Yeah, I'm sure that's all he likes. I wonder why he didn't want to keep Gates. I wonder how he was able to convince Ireland that Gates was a joke of a receiver and a route runner. Mike Wallace was signed for ticket sales????? LOL!! Much less likely scenario.
And no, you don't pay for speed. You pay for completeness, which makes this decision even worse because it is beyond obvious that Mike Wallace is not a complete receiver.
disagree 100%. you pay for what you need. supply and demand. if you need speed and speed is at a premium you pay up for it
