... if there's truth to this article.
    http://ibnsportswrap.com/article.php?articleID=133#

I could see the offensive line receiving a slight face lift. Long stays at LT... Martin kicks inside to LG... Incognito is cut (saves $4.3 million)... and we either use Incognito's money to pay for a RT (Winston) or spend a 2nd rounder on the athletic Terron Armstead, whom we seem to have interest in.

    Thoughts?

So we should ignore that in this article Miami and Wallace have come to an agreement in principle?

Seems untrue because they cannot agree to anything until Tuesday.

It's incarceratedbob, so take it with a grain of salt. There has been some talk about the Dolphins bringing him in for a physcial this morning though so it could be true. I don't think Martin in a guard though. I think they'll put him back at RT and find a RG via FA or the draft. If IBob's other nugget is true and the Dolphins are about to sign Wallace, then you have no hole at LT, no major hole at WR (although I still think you draft at least one more at some point), and with the flooded CB market I don't think you'll have a hole at CB going into the draft. That could allow the Dolphins to go with Cooper at 12 giving them a fantastic young line.

We're only allowed to talk to agents. Any form of agreement at all implied, oral, written, or otherwise would result in penalty. Pretty sure we could lose the first depending on the profile of the player. High Profile Mike Wallace = 12th gone.

No. Free agency starts Tuesday, but teams are allowed to start negotiating this weekend.

They can negotiate yes I know, but they cannot make an agreement before Tuesday. The NFL sent out a memo to the teams telling them that they are not allowed to make agreements or promises of any kind.

IBN is actually very reliable - just not all the time. But I'll take his word for it.

He's did break the news of the NFL bringing back regular refs.

So are you guys saying there's no chance we try to retain Long if he did in fact check out physically?
This guy might be writing from a prison cell but that doesn't mean the idea is as farfetched as looking for an MLS player to replace Carpenter.

I seriously doubt they would lose a 1st round pick. Despite the memo they sent out, it is a grey area that would be hard to prove. I'm pretty sure there will be deals made in principle this weekend, it just won't be released by the team or agents. The memo talks about media outlets, but I doubt the NFL will take incarcerated bob's website serious.

It makes a ton of sense for him to report the Wallace to Miami deal though. It's the biggest name FA going to the team that most seem to feel is his most likely destination. Saying that early today gives him the ability to say he had it first if the deal is made and if not, he can just say someone else came in at the last minute and beat the offer.

We are "expected" to, but who knows if we will. Same as the situation with Wallace.

If we did sign Long and cut Incognito to do so, I wouldn't use a 2 on a RT, and I would not move Martin to G. He'd have to stay and develop at RT, and draft a G. If Justin Pugh fell to the early 3rd pick, he'd make a nice LG.
That said, at this point Incognito is a better G than Long is a tackle. Also more durable. I'd hate to lose him in the process of resigning Jake.

How would you prove a verbal agreement? That's been going on throughout the history of free agency. How else do players like Justin Smiley sign 5 minutes after midnight on the opening day of free agency?

Dude, that's why I made sure to state "reportedly" in the thread title and then say "...if there's truth to this article" in the opening post so that it would be taken with a grain of salt.

Yes but we can't just take it for granted that he'll improve enough to be a good starter. I think it's perfectly logical to say that if he hadn't been terrible then it would make the Jake Long decision easier.
