Anyone playing on North American 2? Would rather join up with forum folks since it looks like you need to rely on others somewhat.
I use to play it long ago but did not know they were still making them. Rush hour was the last one I had.
A disaster at the moment. Like usual EA hasn't got the servers ready to deal with a launch so there are connection problems galore. Once that's sorted out though I can create a private game for us here and just have everyone join on my playertag there (Wiredgunslinger). Cause this one is online based...your cities work together in a region. So if your cities weak in an area (ie: not enough power or water)...you can buy from other cities. You can contract out garbage services etc. It's definitely an interesting social experiment.........when you can connect ;p
That does not sound new. Maybe its new for online play but you could always do that playing offline. What would be interesting is if you could set the rates for power, garbage, water that you buy and sell for. That is one element the older version lacked. I will have to check it out just to see what new features they added to it. After 10 years of development I would expect some good upgrades. I thought they had some good ones with rush hour but not enough of them.
I just read over some of the changes. I guess they fixed the pollution trick by making it overlap into other regions so that putting the dirties stuff on the edges is no longer without consequence. Some of the new features look interestisting. Im curious about the specialized city bonuses and drawbacks. I might be into trying it outline in a community with you guys if I decide to buy it. Does it matter if I get the regular or deluxe version for online play? It would be interesting if the world map was shaped global so there are no edges. Make it so you can not dump polution off the map. Also I would like it if they diversified education into specific catagories of research to unlock special bonuses. A coal city might have universities that lead in geology. A casino city might be well educated in stastics. Etc, Etc, Etc..... Then give those cities specific bonuses that are associated with those technologies.
Yah I plan to eventually run a ThePhins region for the few of us here that will play it. Once the connection issues get sorted out ;p Once you get it just poke "Wiredgunslinger" on origin and I'll invite you to the region. Hoping EA sorts this crap out so I can get the basics started this weekend. I just bought the Limited Edition which seems to be the standard edition.
Good ol' EA. No wonder they took forever to make a new SimCity; they thought no one cared. Sounds good, once the issues get resolved. Shame we have to use Origin though...
Seems better this morning...I played 2 straight hours without issue. However they are still adding servers. I'll wait till they open up some new ones..move over there and then start our project.
I got a couple hours of messing around in this morning...but yah....every single EA exec should line up for a kick in the balls from every paying customer. Once you are able to get in though and play a little.....add me "Wiredgunslinger" in Origin and I'll setup our land plot then on what will hopefully be North American East 3 or 4 by then (christ Europe's got their extra servers first).
Ok they added a load of new servers. Looks like it's good to go. I'll be starting a private playground for us and adding people's origin names from here.
EA is giving away a free game on March 18 to say sorry for the connection issues. Mine has been solid since last night.
Yeah I've been good to go today... still getting a feeling for it. Kind of sucks though that the city size is only set to a medium city.
They promise to expand it in the future. Plus we will have a 16 city region so depending on how many of us join up we can have multiple plots. I have to add people to our region while they are online so don't forget to add "Wiredgunslinger" to your Origin list and then I'll invite you in when I see you.
Also if I got the setting right...I should be able to share power for you early on. Set up a 6 panel solar energy station. Edit: Scratch that. If someone wants to make the city today and invite us later go for it. I built my city way too fast to deal with a massive amount of pollution so i am going to have to start over and try to keep it more manageable this time lol.
Start a region and invite people before building it up. I've been waiting hours for mine. Also, it seems there was a small patch today but there are no release notes. Lastly, it seems that there's a bug related to the in-game graphical settings. If you set Lighting even to Low, then GPU use cranks up massively. It could just be a bug with my GTX 670… as it doesn't happen in any other game, I'm inclined to think it's something SimCity specific.
Out of courousity if you build your power plants in the corners of your entire grid does the pollution trick still work there or did they make the world circular so that the polution shows up on the opposite side of the map?
No, that trick should work, though the pollution might spill over to a neighboring city. SimCity is now region based, so your city is part of a bigger interconnected region with boundaries. So if your pollution source is near a city border it might spill over to the neighboring city. I'd love to say for certain but I haven't been able to get in and actually play a city. And now my GPU needs to be replaced.
No, I was overheating and crashing in all games, not just SimCity. I fixed it by reapplying a decent amount of thermal paste on the GPU. No need to replace anything now. Though SimCity still is oddly GPU-intensive with the lighting turned up. At least the tutorial is. VanDolPhan still hasn't invited me to his map.
I seem to keep missing you. I work nights so I sleep during the day. Best times are between 8 am and noon. And then usually 8:30pm till around 9:45pm. Unfortunately it doesn't allow for offline invites so even if you leave Origin on I can invite. I am starting a new land on North America East 4 and then I'll throw invites as I see people on Origin. My Origin name again for others: Wiredgunslinger I'll also see if I can get the game to work on my laptop then I can work on it a bit from work during the slow times ;p
I saw you on for a few hours today, sent a few Origin messages, got nothing in return. I'm on Origin right now, in fact…
That's weird. I didn't get those earlier messages. But as we found out tonight....Origin/SimCity has some 'friend' invite issues. I will leave the city there for when we can invite and just play in some public ones for now.
Over the weekend? No, I haven't gotten anything. Way to go, EA. Way to run that online service. You're really showing Valve how it's done.
Well we might not be able to pull off a private server invite but I would like to see if we can get into a public server together. I am running one right now...so see if in your searches you can find a "Changlorious Community"....that's the one I started or poke me on Origin and lets see if the invite bug applies to public also.
So wait, I'm confused... I get that there's a server issue right now, but say... I had no internet connection whatsoever, it would be impossible to play this game... ever? Can you not just play it, on your own like past versions without help from others etc etc?
Ok bug is fixed. I've invited Desides to ThePhins Woods. Anyone else either post your origin name here or PM me with it so I can add you. You have to be established on North America East 4 though.
The whole game is built to rely on your neighbours. That's why. You can't run one city by itself...you'd always be lacking. So your cities specialize here. For instance I'm probably going education based. But desides could decide to pollute the world and be an oil baron etc. And you could be vegas with the casino's etc.
Ok feel free to grab 2 plots each for now. 1 to setup to consistently make some cash for you...and then your specialized city.
