From PFT Star Lotulelei, a defensive tackle from Utah who is widely viewed as one of the best players in this year’s draft, was found to have a heart condition when examined at the Scouting Combine. He was a top ranked overall player. IMO If this is something that can be fixed medically someone will take a chance on him but i doubt anyone would spend a first round pick but i could see someone taking him as a second round pick
that's awesome. About how long did it take you to go through all this until you were satisfied with your findings?
NFL Combine Live: Da’Rick Rogers Delivers Best Overall Performance Displaying Speed, Agility, Explosiveness "Overall, Da’Rick Rogers finished with a fantastic day. He ran a 4.52, which is fine for his size, and he finished in the Top 5 in the 3-cone, 20-yard shuttle, 60-yard shuttle, vertical jump and broad jump. At 6-foot-2, 217 pounds, that’s a fantastic athlete." Read more at: http://nesn.com/2013/02/nfl-combine...ong-prospects-to-watch-during-day-4-drills-2/
Just caught a clip of Chris Harper...I really like Chris Harper..just saw a lil bit, runs with beautiful balance, very still head, subtle adjustments in route that are a sign of a talented player imo..
Hah. Way too long. I experimented with a lot of "rules" as for when to start the timer. In the end I figured there's really only one uniform way to tell you how much time it took for a player to physically step his way across 40 yards of grass.
not sure you remember CK, but I can guarantee you that some coaches at Kstate were not happy with how his talent was utilized, or should I say underutilized..he felt it went to waste in a big way.
It seems like something you'd want to break open a 12 pack of beer to sit down to..... but then again, by the end your numbers would be all over the f***in place. Perhaps that's how Swope got his 4.34. Sounds like a total OCD moment where you completely lose track of time with two hours suddenly turning into ten and you push off dinner an extra four hours even though your stomach is telling you to hurry up and feed it.
Just something i found on Patterson. I wonder what teams he interviewed with. Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee: Patterson displayed today some of the same concerns that we had with him during film study. He was choppy in and out of his breaks, and did not display fluidity on his routes. Throughout his workout, he let the ball get into his body and struggled to catch the ball cleanly. Early in the workout he caught the ball extremely well, but as the workout went on he dropped some passes he should easily have caught. As expected, he ran extremely well (unofficial 4.37 40), but he is far from a polished product, despite being so highly regarded in some circles. **More concerning is that we heard that Patterson has been very unimpressive in interviews, which will likely lead to him sliding down draft boards http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Players-that-did-not-shine-at-Sundays-Combine-workout.html
I didn't see that. I was not impressed at all with him. Solid time, but I saw a lack of concentration and hands in some of the drills.
I was surprised that he was that slow in his forty and wondered after reading CK's analysis of their timing the forty, if he was penalized somehow for his unusual very low starting stance. I think he'd be a nice pick in the 6th or 7th if you only took 1 WR earlier and wanted to double up on the position. He was very productive when Gabbert was still at Mizzou.
There's something about him that makes him seem like a great athlete learning how to be a WR rather than a great WR. There's nothing wrong with that, except if you're picking high in the 1st and considering him, because those players entail a certain amount of risk. I didn't like how Patterson looked catching the ball in the gauntlet drill for one thing, didn't look natural. Patton certainly did imo, way better than Patterson. Total risk/reward pick imo, my preference would be to spend a couple of 2nd or 3rd rd picks in this deep WR class and look elsewhere with pick #12.
Don't know if anyone has mentioned this guy, but the player who really jumped out at me today when watching the combine was Marquess Wilson. Haven't heard much about him (other than I think I remember CK saying something about him around the Senior Bowl maybe), but I thought he looked great. I didn't watch him at all in college so this is purely off of his combine, but to me he looks really smooth, has great hands, great size, and is fast. Definitely someone I'd keep an eye on. Anyone else have an opinion on him?
You never want to believe what's being written and said at this time of the year. However, if there IS something that he could struggle with during interviews, it could be when he gets on the board.
Totally, he and Patton stood out to me in the gauntlet drill, both look like the real deal. My main concern on tape as per Wilson is that he looks a bit frail- sure enough, 7 reps at 225. Not good enough, 10 wasn't near enough for Rogers either, but Rogers plays way more physical. If we drafted 2 WRs then picked up Wilson in the 5th rd or so, I'd be fine with that, talented WR imo.
Major character concerns. I heard them say something today, Mayock did, about him quitting the team during a practice he felt was unnecessarily hard, and then filed some sort of official complaint against the WSU coaching staff. That's just how I recall Mayock's comments off the top of my head.
Your choice DJ, would you rather take Austin at 12 and Ertz at 42, or Eifert at 12 and Bailey or Woods at 42?
Yeah, I heard him say that he questioned what the coaches were making them do in practice. That's definitely something that isn't going to endear him to NFL coaches regardless of if he was right in questioning them or not. To me though, that's a grey area on whether it's a character issue or not. That's something that will have to be hashed out in the interview process. I would definitely look into it though because I saw a lot to like today.
That's good to know. If Jones looked down and saw your nose firmly planted against and sniffing his jock, it may make him a little uncomfortable. Just saying...
Watching the combine today made me feel even better about the depth at WR in this draft. The guys we have talked about over the past couple months had good showings, and there were others who I thought also jumped out and impressed. Regardless of what the Dolphins do in FA, I really hope they double down at WR in the draft because with all the talent available if you miss on one, you have a solid chance to hit on the other.
I like Aaron Dobson from Marshall, IMO he is good route runner with good hands. Anyone knows why he didn't participate in the combine?
Oh I remember. It's nice when a guy is getting a big vote of confidence from his coaching staff like that. Some guys actually don't. Sam Montgomery is the latest example of that I think.
Absolutely that was my first thought when I read it. My second thought was, "but then again, everyone lies at this time of year, especially about exactly this kind of thing"
Because Rogers is a better player. Harper has a compelling size/speed element to him, but from what I've seen of him he isn't the dynamic WR that Rogers is- physical, aggressive, quick, goes after the ball, all of that. I like Harper, but I wouldn't refer to him as Rogers minus the baggage. Even with the baggage I think that Rogers will get drafted substantially ahead of Harper.
yeah I agree. Unless they have the balls to source it, I let it go in one ear and out the other. How often are these reporters/analysts dished "damaging information" about desirable or intriguing prospects by sources who choose to remain anonymous? Every year, right? "One team, I can't name who it is, said player X had such a bad interview they'd be surprised to see him drafted."..... and then the player goes in the first 3 rounds to the team who supposedly said he wasn't draftable.
Here is my honest opinion of what happened, and trust me this is based on a lot of research into the situation, the most I'm capable of doing without actually having access to people involved. There have been a lot of suggestions floating around the team that Mike Leach and staff have shown a lot of favoritism toward their own recruits over previous recruits at WSU. That's not totally surprising to be honest. It happens. But what I can tell you is that writers and other people that have attended WSU practices have verified that for whatever reason, Mike Leach's coaching staff decided to specifically single out and target Marquess Wilson. I don't mean that maliciously. Maybe they had their reasons. Maybe he's not a strong work ethic guy and because he was known as their best player they just tried the best they could to "break him" like a horse, and get him with the program. I'm not trying to just project malicious intent where I don't have to. But the observational reports are what they are. They singled Wilson out a bunch, were on him every time he would make a small mistake even just dropping a ball (which happens to all receivers), to the point where they'd pull him out in front of his teammates and have him do punishment in front of them. It was during one such disciplinary moment where they were having him do something (I forget if it was wind sprints or whatever) that Wilson lost it. He'd had enough. He essentially told them to go eff themselves and walked off the field. From there, he knew he was going to face discipline and suspension for it. He spoke with his family about the situation. They all decided it would be best if he just leaves the program. While I think most people would like to paint this kind of decision as some kind of reactionary temper tantrum, I personally think that's BS. Walking off the field was a reaction. That was a temper tantrum. Leaving the program some days later was a sober decision made between he and his family, for whatever reasons they decided on. You're not still in the midst of a temper tantrum days later. When he announced that he left the program, he wrote an open letter. And this is where I can't really hide my subjectiveness because the reaction to the letter was absolute BS. In the letter he made it CLEAR. I mean crystal, 100 percent, absolutely without question clear, that he disagreed with how Leach and the coaches were treating players from a MENTAL standpoint. He brought up the issue of respect and the negativity, and the demeaning that the coaches do. At one point in the letter he said something along the lines of "It's not tough love, it's abuse". But because he used that word, and because Mike Leach has that history at Texas Tech...everyone got up in arms, and to this day the whole thing is still mis-characterized even by Mike Mayock today. He never suggested in any way that Mike Leach was physically abusing people. But that's how everyone took it. It's like they refused to actually read, they just see the one word. The down side to that if you're Marquess Wilson is suddenly this became a physical abuse allegation. Which of course meant an investigation. And because it's incorrectly become a physical abuse allegation, exoneration on those terms makes Marquess Wilson look bad. Mike Leach never physically abused anyone at Washington State and so suddenly Marquess Wilson lied or is full of it. Nobody actually cared to look at whether the allegations of being demeaning and disrespectful to players was actually true. It's an abuse investigation now. When all of that started to spin out of control Marquess texted the Athletic Director (whom I think he's still got a relationship with) and made it clear to him what was already clear to anyone who can read beyond a 3rd grade level. He was not alleging physical abuse. That didn't happen. He's sorry for the trouble he caused with the misunderstanding of what he meant. Well, Mike Leach gets hold of this text and he starts telling the press that Marquess Wilson "recanted" his allegations. Which is total BS. But that didn't stop every media outlet who wrote anything about the story from using the word "recant" to describe what Marquess Wilson did in sending that text message to the A.D. Personally, I think this is a case of bad meets bad creating really bad. Marquess Wilson probably is not the most thick skinned, hardest working, diligent player to have played the game. But everything I have seen from Mike Leach in terms of press, stories, his own interviews, etc...over the last three years...has made me consider him a total prick that probably does actually demean his players unnecessarily, and this particular player more so than most. He's no Joe Philbin, who prides himself on being "demanding not demeaning". I've seen Mike Leach be demeaning toward his own players just in press interviews. These are college kids. You're supposed to protect them in public with the press. Even Nick Saban, who behind the closed doors of the practice facility can come off to his players as heartless as they come, will go to bat for every single member of his team with the press. Whatever philanthropic spirit Leach once had, if he ever did, I doubt there's any left. He comes off in interviews like he views his players as just animals. And that's an honest opinion from a guy that once really liked Mike Leach and loved his background, where he came from, how he changed college football, etc. Bottom line, if Mike Williams coming out of Syracuse could be reclaimed and is now a productive member of the Buccaneers who shuts up, does his job and catches for touchdowns and yardage...is now in line for a big contract extension...then this guy can be reclaimed.
The thing that makes the interviews in particular something that I think are lied about is the fact that they're not verifiable. Every team has their own interview with the player. They know how THAT interview went. They don't know how the OTHER 18 interviews went, but they've got to be interested. Maybe they didn't ask the right questions, couldn't get him to crack the facade he and his representation have no doubt carefully crafted through coaching the past few weeks. But maybe someone else did and THAT would be important...because eventually truly bad character will out. If there's one thing I see every year it's interview reports that seem like they were lies.
With the number of great options to improve this team in FA and the draft, plus our resources, it would be hard for Ireland to successfully avoid improving this team. But he is up to the task. As Henne once said, 'I know one thing-this team won't stop quitting'
Anyone else think DJ Harper (Boise) could be a sleeper? I remember him catching my attention earlier in the year a few times but was too lazy to follow up on him.
Spoke about him in the summer. Multitude of injuries but has some talent as a potential third down back. I'd be surprised if his medicals check out though.
I didnt like the way he left Washington State just cause things were tough. He accused the coach (Mike Leach) of abuse and not a single person backed him. If its true it speaks to a major character concern in that he might not be someone you can rely on with a coach who is tough or hard nosed. Major red flag if its true that he was just being a baby.
It's because he was referring to verbal abuse and everyone thought he meant physical abuse since Leach had a history of that. I've read reports that said Leach specifically would verbally abuse Wilson and would be particularly tough on him compared to everyone else. I think Wilson just got tired of being ridden harder than anyone else. He later met with the AD (or someone of that nature) and apologized and released a statement saying he meant verbal abuse compared to physical abuse. Knowing Leach and his history and reputation, I wouldn't put it past him to have been unnecessarily tough on Wilson. Was Wilson in the right? No. Did he make a smart decision? No. Is he still a good talent? Yes. Do I think the same thing would happen here? No. -When you look at it that way you can see why he would be an interesting fit here. I really don't think he would experience anything like he did with Leach with the Dolphins or a majority of NFL teams. And since he is going to fall in the draft due to character concerns you either get a talented player that has matured, or you simply cut him and walk-away knowing you used a 5th or 6th on a guy that "couldn't help himself."
