Michael Williams has the best chance of converting to being an offensive tackle and doing well that way, but Levine Toilolo has a better all-around blocking game for a tight end. He can make more blocks out in space and get out to more blocks than Williams.
After watching another set of Youtube vs, I've actually come around to wanting Vance MacDonald. Guy is just a beauty to watch run. Not much inline blocking though. Wonder why that is? He looks ****ing huge.
Lane Johnson was not only fast in the 40, he looked the most natuturally athletic to me. They showed some of the kick slide drills- Joeckel looked good, Watson looked good and Johnson looked elite- fast to the edge and some of the quickest, best feet I've seen on an OT since D'Brickashaw Ferguson. Truly impressive athletic showing from Johnson.
Ok, I just started a twitter account and tweeted a thank you message for not showing the Gragg replay. Hey Eisen, pull your phone out and check that message I sent you putz.
So uh what the **** happened to Watson? I thought he was this mega athlete going to blister off a 4.7
To me Lane Johnson is the best tackle in the Draft and it has nothing to do with numbers. We all predicted these numbers based purely on the tape.
As much as i have *****ed about us possibly taking Eifert at #12, I don't think I would go absolute ape-**** over it anymore. He has proven today that he is an athletic specimen and a sure fire seem buster. I still would prefer to draft a TE in round 2 or 3. This TE class seems to be very deep in the first couple of rounds. This Vance McDonald kid is tearing it up. He was already a solid blocker and has shown the athletic ability to develop into something special.
As someone who rapidly became a big Watson fan, that 40 run was certainly a disappointment. They cut away before his 2nd run, but that first one sure didn't look good. Not only the time, but how he ran- flat footed and a bit labored. I was expecting him to look more like Armstead and Johnson, who looked the most athletic imo. Watson did look good in a blip of kick sliding, though. But man, that 40 sure wasn't pretty- good athlete who runs flat footed, same as he looks in the games. I still like him quite a bit, I just expected more. T'eo just can't shake the drama, announcers feasting on it and quite the press conference going on- I feel sorry for him, but this is what happens. With a story that bizarre, he had it coming. But it seems to be a bit of overkill at this point.
Williams is only 270, I don't expect any team to convert him to tackle. He's another Howard Cross, and he wasn't converted to tackle. I'll just agree to disagree. Kelce is also a better blocker than Toilolo for that matter IMO.
He still looks light to me for some reason. he needs to add another 20 pounds or so to the frame. He looks so skinny, I can't help but imagining him being pushed around. They talked him up as possibly being a round 1 guy, but I still see 2nd round with him. I wouldn't mind taking him and developing him. The ceiling is high with him and I think he could be a solid LT when he gets his weight up more.
Can someone post Eifert's numbers? I saw the vert and 40, but not the broad jump or anything else... Thanks in advance.
I was thinking Walter Jones, but D'Brick works well too. Just so smooth and effortless. On the goal line, I wonder if teams may use him as a tackle eligible, and throw him the ball. He has that TE background.
I don't care what anyone says. IMO Te'o is a calculating pathological liar and he was definitely in this hoax in some greater level than he is saying.
You have to wonder about potentially transforming him into a Tackle too at that size. Almost Lane Johnson-esque. Worse comes to worse he could be like having 2 blocking Tackles out there in goal line or 3rd/4th and shorts.
Yeah, I don't really know much about Johnson so I don't have much to say, but watching that kick slide drill of his was a "wow" moment in a draft with not all that many wows so far. Elite feet, I have no doubt of that, and you could see the athlete in him in the 40 run. One of the best kick slides I've ever seen, moves more like an athletic 250 pounder than a 300 pounder.
I don't care about Te'o's press conference. Get back to the damn combine. Just noticed his name looks pretty funny in the possessive form.
Agreed, he looked very loose. It was awesome seeing him run along with some tight lineman that could hardly lift their knees. The more I think about it I wouldn't be opposed to drafting him at #12, but I doubt he makes it there.
It's part of the reason, I've said that I thought he's light in the *** and lower body, and that his calves look atrophied or unworked or just bad genetics there, sounds like his vertical was bad, while Eifert and 35 and a half is excellent... Eiferts athleticism is unmatched it seems relative to his size..with that vertical, that radius, that height, those hands, overall flexibility, it just spells redzone danger for the opponent.. I can't wait to see it all, but Eifert is not a player where if he dominates in the measurables dept you have to go back to look at the tape, you know he's a great football player.
I had to go back and watch Watson run in the games, and run in the 40. Whoever the **** trained him for the 40 should be fired. It reminds of the Joe Haden, who played with legitimate 4.4 speed. Gets to the combine, runs a 4.6. Deion is watching, comments how he is too upright, etc. Calls Haden, says "trust me, forget everything you were taught by whoever taught you, and just run like you're chasing a million dollars." Dude busts out a 4.45 at his pro day with a bad start. Haden later said his father was somewhat insulted because he runs the training academy that taught him. Whoops!
All that I can say is that as an athlete, a 6-7 300 lb guy who plays LT, Johnson looks elite. A rare athlete for a man that big.
IMO Dolphins: Lane Johnson @12 Trade 3a and 2b for 1st round pick: Draft Eifert. 2a and 3b left for WR, CB, and/or OG. Or, use FA to find 2 starting corners and get Jennings. Focus all early picks on offense.
Interesting. For better or worse I look at how they run, not just the times. Schwenke looked good, Armstead looked excellent, Johnson ran like a superb athlete. I was expecting Watson to run like an elite athlete- he didn't. It wasn't labored like Warmack, but it was so much slower and less fluid than I expected. if he was trained to run like that, with that style- what a shame, but that's conjecture. It's a head scratcher though, I expected so much more.
When I read this I thought of the talking hamster in dr Doolittle when he's getting his prostate checked unexpectedly by the doctor and he screamed out..HELLOOOOOO?? I love these kind of statements.
Cool, so Gragg with an official top forty of 4.50, the top vertical (37.5), and the top broad (10'5).
And that's one of the reasns why the combine is important...men in space and what can they do athletically in it and how it translates to your scheme, if the man displayed an incredible kick slide than you know what you can expect and the ceiling your working with in that dept.
