Ireland isn't perfect by any means, but ragging on taking Odrick is just the total haters looking for any gawd damn thing they can think of to snivel whine and complain about.

People have I think made some inaccurate generalized assumptions, but I think there's a bit of an issue with how the fronts get aligned. Wake ideally should be a weakside guy and Odrick a strongside guy, but Wake is a left side only guy. Instead you get a bunch of Over fronts with Odrick playing a 6-technique vs a left tackle, when I think you've got a 300lb guy to be covered by blockers on the strong side

I watch football… I really dont know **** about football (ins and outs)… but I know when a stinks, when he is avg and when he is good… My point is that I dont know what technique Odrick is suppose to be playing but I know he is a decent enough player. :)

Odrick was a dumb pick back then and its a still a dumb pick now. lol i love how you cherry picked these PFF numbers but left out probably the most important one, which was that he was ranked 59th overall out of 62 DE's. Odrick isn't bad against the run but he shouldn't be, he's among the biggest 4-3 ends out there.

I hated that entire 2010 draft, from top to bottom, from trading all the way down the back end of the 1st round and missing out on Earl Thomas, Dez Bryant, Pierre Paul, Iupati, Gresham, Demaryius Thomas, etc... to reaching for Koa Misi, to passing on Graham for wack *** John Jerry, worthless AJ Edds, worthless Carroll and McCoy and Spitler, our first 5 picks have done nothing, our only good pick was Jones. 3-4 end was arguably the one position on the team that wasn't a need at all, we had Starks, Langford, McDaniels, Merling, even Ryan Baker, then they tried to justify the Odrick pick by saying Starks would be moved inside, as if we still didn't have enough talent and depth at the position to not have to address it WITH OUR FIRST PICK. but then again that draft was a textbook Dolphins draft, miss out on elite impact players with high upsides, play it safe and draft the seniors, the captains, the non impact players...not surprising this recipe leads to a losing season pretty much every year.

if any team offered me a 5th or higher for him i'd pull the trigger in a heartbeat, then we could resign Starks and actually get a real DE opposite Wake.

I cherry picked? I covered nearly every rating individually. You didn't like it that way because you have it inside your lb that he's no good. I don't think he's a great player but he's better than average, a solid starter, and to trade him for a 5th round pick would be the ultimate in stupidity.
I also guess you don't remember that NT was a primary need that offseason of 2010. Jason Ferguson was gone, and Soliai wasn't considered reliable enough to be counted on at that point. One of the main names associated with Miami going into that draft was NT Dan Williams. He was the target at 28, but the Cards took him a couple of picks earlier. I recall hearing that Parcells was very upset when he missed out on Williams. Every plan has a backup plan though, or should, and the contingency plan with Williams gone was to take Odrick and move Starks inside. That was how they opened the season. Then Odrick gets lost for the year in the first game with an injury.
So, Soliai was forced to start and Starks moved back outside. Then Soliai explodes and has his best season so far.
Yes it is too bad we missed out on all those other players, but we came out of the draft with a WR, a replacement for Ferguson, and a replacement for Porter in the first two rounds, when you consider the trade for Marshall. At the time, nearly everyone, other than you I guess, were pretty happy as I recall. At least those posting on this forum. It is easy to criticize some of the picks using 20/20 hindsight though.
Edds would have done fine for us had he not tore up his knee. He was durable at Iowa, so no way of predicting he'd have a serious injury in his first training camp. Misi was ranked as a mid 2nd rounder going into that draft. He was not a reach. Jerry was not really a reach either, he was ranked as about a 3rd rounder, though I agree I wanted a TE at that pick. I wanted Ed Dickson though. Carroll has been ok as a dime or nickel, but he clearly wasn't ready for a full time starting job this season. Jones has developed into a top SS, to my surprise, and Spitler was a good pick for a 7th rounder.

Odrick should be lined up between the tight end/right tackle which is usually on the left side. Wake is a left side only guy, which means the defensive fronts adjustments towards the strength of the offensive formation is a bit different than you'd normally see with a DE combination like Wake and Odrick.
