I think they'll be smart about this and not go through with any deviation from the spreadsheet, what they'll more likely do is hold off longer on starting the GML next year. They'll understand that mistakes made now, will or should be addressed for next year.
We weren't fans of Todd wanting to make changes before. Can you imagine the blowup if you made a trade and your guy's cap goes up $2 million or you made a trade and the guy you traded saved $2 million which affects your negotiations. I got rid of Barnett to clear salary cap...same with Anderson. If I found out they took pay cuts before the excel sheet went out with this rule. Mind blown. Schisno. He specifically says:
Yeah I saw that, hopefully it won't be implemented because it's just going to cause too many headaches the moment a salary change occurs.
Listen I think it's only fair that anyone who has dealt with San Fran to get a 10mil tax credit on their cap... Just because of the emotional pain they've endured and the long term effects on team morale. But even more disappointing, I wish I could have gotten SanFran as my team instead of ****in Iggles...
You guys are making way too huge a deal out of this. Most of the salaries aren't going to change overnight. If you contact me 2 months from now about a false salary, I'm going to tell you its too late. We have always allowed mistakes on our end to be fixed... you are treating this like it will be a constant changing. I doubt more than 5 salaries will be changed this year to tell you how much this impact things.
you got that right. I like the deals I have made but the plans to do the things I have done were predicated by the cap #s I had. If the numbers change would it change what I did? Maybe not drastically but I may have kept Ben depending on totals overall. But IMO you are right too many moves have been made based on what was posted, so are we gonna reload everything and start over?
Most salary changes IRL will be restructures... restructures are not allowed. This is not going to be a frequent event at all... you're overreacting about the magnitude of this.
Even 1 is 1 too many. You saw the outrage at Todd. All it takes is one trade affected by this and you have opened pandora's box. Especially after all the bluster about the excel sheet being "Final" Onoz...4th guy I checked...his salary changed by a whopping $135! ;p 7th guy I checked. Carrington $1,547,120 is now 1,539,000. So 2 guys in the first 7....small change...but still change here. I shouldn't even have to waste my time re-checking these numbers. Fred Jackson a guy I traded. Excel: $3,643,750 New number: $3.7 million Terrence McGee (thankfully cut) but he went from $4,350,000 to $4.6 million Arthur Moats: Excel: $1,359,120 went to 1,351,000 Lee Smith: Excel: $583,934 went to 626,804 Kyle Williams adjusted a whopping $5000 ;p And here goes Pandora's Box. SS George Wilson (traded) Excel: $4,491,667. Spotrac: 3,591,667
Can you prove that that was the correct number from February 4 other than saying the number is there now? You guys can check the numbers all you want but if we see no proof of our number being off as of February 4th... then nothing changes. It's easy to point out a number but difficult to point why that number changed. This is why not many changes would occur anyway.
Well considering your dang excel spreadsheet is from Spotrac and now the numbers are different. Then yes. But now not only are you opening Pandora's box but you want us to find proof. Great so the papers/sites that report changes for a team compared to a team that doesn't. It could change a multitude of ways via escalators, plain being wrong to bonus money for players with low salaries who outplay their contracts. A) Were in the middle of a game here B) We shouldn't be wasting time checking our numbers...scouring for sources etc You say it may be 5 cases but I've pulled up over a half dozen from minor to WTF with George Wilson who was traded with JUST the Bills. Just keep it the same.
All I'm saying, don't make any changes at all. No one benefits, no one is screwed since everyone has the same numbers from the spreadsheet. Yeah you goofed, it happens, human error. Don't fix a problem that doesn't have to be fixed mid game.
I remember Elvis Dumervil's salary being off by 4.2M, and I looked into it more and Griddles changed it for me. All it does is take a little research, and if you are wrong, you are wrong, at least you tried.
Telling me spotrac's numbers are different now is not proof to me. For all I know they hit descalators on February 6th which we wouldn't change... the process is far more complicated than you seem to think.
Well I'm telling you right now. I am not for this. And your going to get a lot more grief over this. It's completely bad form to change the game after the game starts. I am not even looking into the George Wilson thing cause I play by the spirit of the game. But I traded him and if Stringer finds a valid reason. We got issues.
Except you just opened Pandora's box to this. You guys just don't get this. It doesn't matter if it's 'complicated' etc etc. You changed the rules mid game now everyone is going to be wasting time making sure they didn't get screwed.
-walks into Pandoras room- ok, who left her box open... the is the least landscape and putrid smelling box I've been a witness to.
George Wilson for example. I traded him away cause his contract being over $4 million was just too much. Could I have kept him at $3.6 million. Quite possible...or I could have got more trade value with a lower hit. And it looks like his was just a pure error of Spotrac related to a not likely to be earned incentive that lowered his salary when he didn't get it and then raised with a base salary increase due to incentives....but I'm still wasting time searching this crap out. Incentives are going to keep changing things as they leak out.
No you don't get this. I have ran this thing for many years and I know what I'm doing. If you want to fact-check your numbers, feel free. However don't expect your numbers to change just because you link me to Spotrac. That isn't how it works... most people aren't going to go out and find our why the numbers are different so it's not going to matter.
If you're gonna fact check the 49ers, then you have to go through the other 31 teams. Common courtesy.
I just did with George Wilson. Point being I shouldn't have to waste my time with this. I was fine and dandy with the #'s in the spreadsheet that you guys strictly told us were the final numbers...........except now..they aren't.
This was because Spotrac was doubling Dumervil's bonus money which make it to be a $80M contract rather than a $61.5M contract... that's a pretty significant mistake and you wouldn't see such an error again I would guess.
I didn't do any fact-checking for a specific team... if someone presents something to me, I will look into it.
http://www.nyjetscap.com/2012_Articles/billscapcuts.html Jan 12. A bloody Jets fan was onto it ;p http://www.kffl.com/player/9456/nfl KFFL posted changes Jan 30 Somewhere in there that not likely to be earned incentive affected his salary cap. But you know how HARD it will be to find proof like that beyond the # changing? It's not the point though. The simple point is everyone should be playing by the rules. Sure if Spotrac outright goofed by doubling a signing bonus...sure. But that should be it. No incentives, no notta on anything else.
And we haven't adjusted any contracts due to incentives because we can't really prove when they went into effect.... it's only been major flaws.
Everyone can find conflicts on their team. Ie Ahmad brooks http://ewallstreeter.com/ers-lineba...----salary-to-decrease-by------million-6470/# However, I say stick with the original spread sheet and suck it up... It's a game
Ok then. As long as they are big time errors that have nothing to do with the usual flow of nfl contracts. Then I'm fine. But any changes should really be publicly noted as to why.
You guys are acting like I am allowing 50 changes a day... I would think after running things for 6-7 years you all could just trust my judgment but that never seems to happen...
I wouldn't trust family with my wallet man ;p Nothing personal I'm just trying to make sure the rules aren't being changed after the fact that allows an advantage for some. Better to hash it out then pull a Todd ;p
Lol not arguing with ya man... Just agreeing that no changes should be made. (But his deescalators were in place the whole time and are just now coming to light... Just to prove a point lmao)
We caught a lot of the de-escalators and escalators actually two nights before rosters were released... some went on unannounced for a few days after rosters were released and there wasn't much we could do.
