#12) Miami Dolphins- Bjoern Werner (DE Florida State)

If Bjoern Werner was a fit in a 3-4 as an outside linebacker, he likely would be the 6th pick in our mock, or 9th at the very lowest. However, Werner just is not an outside linebacker, and only fits in a 4-3. It's not an indictment on him in the slightest, Werner is an outstanding talent who will excel as a traditional 4-3 front with his hand on the ground. He's a steal for the Dolphins with the 12th pick, and also fills a need for them. With Miami's switch to the 4-3 last year, they are still adding pieces to fit the scheme, and one of the positions they need to upgrade is defensive end. They have Cameron Wake, who is one of the league's elite pass rushers, but opposite him they need help. If the Dolphins take Werner, they can move Jared Odrick inside to defensive tackle where he is much better suited, which improves two positions with one pick.

Personally I love the Da'Rick Rogers pick, still very interested in Marques Wilson and Marquise Goodwin.

IMO, this situation at the top pick with KC is similar to what Miami faced in 2008. The consensus best overall player is a OLT, but the team needs a franchise QB. In these mock drafts that have the BPA tackle doing #1, they all backup how wise the pick was by having a QB fall to that team's pick at the top of the 2nd round, in this case Barkley.
I don't see any way Barkley falls to the top of round 2 in the real world. It would be like if Flacco had fell to the top of round 2 in 2008 and we took him.
If KC goes for the LT, then I'm guessing in a few years the team will be heavily 2nd guessed by their fans for passing on the highest drafted QB who comes in and does well from his rookie season on.

That'd be the greatest 3 rounds in Dolphins history, from a value standpoint. Werner, a top 5 prospect, falls to us @ #12, and we need DE help bad. He has Allen, whom a lot of pundits have as the #1 WR in this draft, falling to round 2, to Miami? Okay we now have a legitimate first round WR falling to us. He's giving us a top 45 RB at the bottom 2nd, and we're getting Da Rick Rogers, another 2nd round prospect, at the bottom of the 3rd. I don't know much about Slay, but holy hell would that draft be amazing.

Tons and tons of value at positions of actual need? Seems way too good to be true.

Alex Okafor to the Jets as an OLB? Don't see that happening.

If the draft broke that way I could see the Dolphins taking Tavon Austin with that second 2nd round pick. I think Ireland would see a lot of Percy Harvin in him. Although I'd probably prefer Cyprien (S) at that point. And Bailey wasn't even drafted in those 3 rounds (unless I missed him). I would prefer him over any WR in the draft.

While I love reading mock drafts there really is no point to do them after the combine and free agency. For example if the Dolphins sign Mike Wallace and Greg Jennings than I sincerely doubt they would draft Cordarrelle Patterson at 12. I do one and only one and I do seven rounds the week before the draft.

Cyprien is chiseled! He can play either safety position and would look very good next to Reshad Jones...

I've watched a couple of his games and the Senior Bowl. It seemed that at FIU he played in the box more often than back, but IMO he's better at coverage. I think he has the size, speed and range to run with TEs and WRs. I also think he has decent hands and good but not great awareness with the ball in the air. He lays some big hits, but I'd like to see him takle more consistently and with better technique. At the line I think he gets blocked too easily. I don't think his instincts are great up there. But he does seem like an aware player who was often directing the rest of the secondary. That suggests a high football IQ and leadership to me. I would rate him behind Elam and Vacarro, but in the mix with the next tier. I think he's an unfinished product but he has decent potential.

Im just not a big fan of Bjoern Werner. He seems like a very boring, unexplosive player. I dont like that at all. And drafting Bell in round 2 is just not something i can get behind. If they want to give us a DE in that spot Id like Dion Jordan a lot more. He has the athleticism and pure pass rush ability I like from a DE even if Werner might be more of a technician.
