Primed for a let down loss though, in a way this as important a game as beating Duke. All week they will be getting their butts kissed, how they handle that will tell us a lot about what this team really is all about.
There is always a chance for a letdown loss after a win like that, but I feel a whole lot more comfortable under Coach L in this situation than I was when Haith was in charge.
It's official! Coley to be the new OC.... http://www.hurricanesports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=28700&ATCLID=206096766
Normally, local HS's are sort of feeders for the college team, that really has not happened in Miami Granted I pay little attention to recruiting, BUT, a BBall roster is so small two good players and you can make the tourney at least
Oh, I suspect Mr Infante is offbase, the NCAA has not had their hands quite so tainted as in this case, and Miami has shown plenty of pre-emptive action to try and rectifiy the situation. Do expect it will take time, as the NCAA will try and determine what their liability is first, but it will hash out in theU's favor imo
Cannot say enough what the victory against Duke has meant to this long suffering UM Basketball fan. Coach L might be the best developer of talent we've had here since Coach Hamilton. You always hoped that they would do well in the ACC but, for the most part, came away disappointed. I know it's early in the season but what a way to start conference play. Those of us that have been following along for years now remember the team that Hamilton took to the Sweet 16 and how special they were. Beginning to think about this team in the same way.
I don't like underhanded stuff from either side, however in this case it looks as if the NCAA has stepped outside the lines to not counter that is naive at best, good for Leshner.
Can recall when a U center was taken in rd 2 waaaay back in the day, I think the Bucks took him and his name was Fuentes?
Not really a college basketball fan but I'm really happy for the team and was super stoked when I saw they beat Duke so handily.
Have to think that the 'Canes will rise in the polls tomorrow, especially after beating the # 1 team and your in state rival by over 20 points each. Predicting top 20 team, dare I dream top 10?
top 5 RPI, top 5 SOS and just beat Duke by 27, then FSU by 24. In just one week. Plus, LOTS of the top 25 lost. Miami should be at least 15th, no lower.
14th in one poll and 15th in the other. Very happy to read this. Beat Va Tech and NC State and it could be higher next week.
Hopefully they can take care of business @VT. They're not that good. Beating NC State on the road would be fantastic.
They should be higher but I'm glad I was wrong about them getting to 15. The usual bias is being forced into respect by a very good Canes team.
Miami Out For Denver Kirkland In a recent turn of events, four-star offensive tackle Denver Kirkland (6-5/335) found out today that the Miami Hurricanes no longer have a scholarship available for him. Kirkland’s stepfather, Shanton Crummie, informed XOFan/CaneInsider of the news earlier tonight. He said the explanation he’s receiving from the Miami coaching staff is that they over signed defensive lineman and therefore Kirkland’s scholarship was used up. This could have a negative impact on Miami’s recruitment of his teammate, five-star linebacker Matthew Thomas, as well as other Class of 2014 prospects from Booker T. Washington (Miami, Fla.). http://acc.xofan.com/Miami/miami-out-for-denver-kirkland/
^ Kirkland and his father had a meeting with Golden and co. today. We'll see how it went. Oh, and Miami beat NC State on a last second tip in. Insane.
Glad I watched every second of that game today. They don't get rattled very easy. Forgot who it was, or if it would have been good with .8 tens of a second left but that last shot by NC ST. almost went in.
2-0 again this week. Wonder if they crack the top 10. Either way, "It's great to be a Miami Hurricane."
Question is, can they keep it up? They have two home games this week. Boston College on Tuesday which was the game they won in BC on the miss free throw by their player with no time out. Then, they play North Carolina on Saturday. I know NC is down this year, but this might be a loss. Sucks that I'm going camping this weekend with no cell phone reception until Sunday. Oh well, daddy time > 'Canes basketball.
Teams almost always have a let down game. Let's hope that the Canes let down was at the start of the season. But I do think they've created a good atmosphere at home so it will be tough for any team to beat them. Target on their back or not, they have constructed a team that is just not seen anymore. When was the last time you've herd announcers calling a college team old men? Lots of veterens, of which, all have their own leadership charachter. So far we don't see them get rattled easily and I fully expect that to continue thru the season. The one thing that concerns me is the fact that they've never been to the NCAA tournament. That's when we'll see what they're really made of.
Up to #8 in the AP poll. This might tie them for the highest ranking in the school's men's basketball history. Been a heckuva ride so far. We have a top 10 team with ten games remaining, gentlemen.
Collins' HC has very deep ties with Bielema. Collins also showed concern with possible sanctions, too. Oh well.
RB Gus Edwards becomes UM's newest addition early Wednesday So far, the Canes have gotten off to a good start Wednesday morning -- swaying Staten Island Tottenville (N.Y.) running back Augustus Edwards, the No. 1 fullback in the country according to Rivals.com, to come to Coral Gables instead of rival Florida State. But the bigger battles with the Seminoles are yet to come. The good news: most are in UM's backyard. Edwards, a 6-1, 222-pound three-star prospect according to Rivals, was previously a Syracuse commitment. He visited UM recently and came away impressed. He ran for 868 yards and 10 touchdowns on 107 attempts this past season for Tottenville. He also produced 11 tackles and three sacks on defense. ^ Thomas and Kirkland. I'm more upset about Thomas but it is what it is. Should have a solid signing class but nothing to brag about.
as far as we can tell...we Kevin Olsen and not much else. This place down here has turned into a sieve. No reason for a Booker T player to get away.
