They did get one last possession. Ginn returned a punt to end the game. He could have fair caught it. Then the offense could have come on the field for a Hail Mary.
Again, the holding, called or not, did not screw the 49ers. The rules screwed them. Both teams played under the same set of rules and knew them going in. If you want something legit to complain about, then complain about Jimmy Smith not getting called for defensive holding on the 49ers 4th down play.
I agree it should have been flagged. Boger was right there staring straight at Dickson too. The fact that no flag was thrown though, did not screw the 49ers, which was what your thread title indicates. The rules screwed them. I've never been impressed with Boger as a ref and was very surprised he got the SB gig. If it were up to me, Mike Carey would ref every SB till he retires.
I can promise you that not fair catching it was the coaches call. No way they just sent him out there with no plan. Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk 2
Crabtree also pushed off, so there were non calls both ways, yet he did not blame the refs for the non call. When I saw the thread title at first, I figured that was the play it was about.
No it wouldn't. The penalty for holding in the end zone is a safety, and that's it. There is no 10 yard mark off on the free kick to go with it.
