Wasn't he just a coaching intern last year? Obviously it's a promotion if he was only going to be an assistant DB coach.

He was a coaching intern and I believe the Dolphins had the intention of bringing him up to full assistant DB coach but they already had an assistant DB coach and so Harris was probably like "Uhh, no thanks". In other words, Dolphins being all Dolphiny.

Jim Turner had a good reputation coming from Texas A&M however let me play some devil's advocate. Consider the following:

    1. Jake Long had the worst year he's ever had, maybe literally ever as in college and pro, and that was before he tore a triceps.
    2. Jon Martin was really pretty terrible. Even for a 2nd round rookie. For example, Mitchell Schwartz of Cleveland was way way way better.
    3. Luke Joeckel and Jake Matthews were better than ever at Texas A&M, even after Jim Turner left.

So do we really know Jim Turner is all that great? I know I for one wasn't under any illusion that I was supposed to be impressed by film of him laying on the ground and criticizing his offensive linemen for their first step off the ball being off by a quarter of an inch.

I like the guy. But we've not gone from the fan-optimism stage into the we've-seen-results-that-prove-it stage.

Liking him on HBO tainted our evaluations of his results, I think.

A couple months ago I began to question whether he's really done such a great job. If your biggest feather in your cap is John Jerry's performance, while conceding a poor year by a former Pro Bowler, and a poor year by your 2nd round pick... I don't know.

We can;t entirely gloss over Icognito though. I personally don't know if he really deserves a Pro Bowl berth, but he has one. So there's that.

As for Harris leaving... if we end up changing staffs in the next couple years and Al harris goes on to send KC CBs to Pro Bowls I'll be annoyed.

Unless we grow a brain at that point and hire him away from KC as our Secondary Coach.

Guy got a promotion we couldn't(and shouldn't) have offered him. Best of luck to him.

Reid went after Todd Bowles last year, Eagles being Eagley. Now he's after Al Harris, Chiefs being all Chiefy.

People *****ing about us losing an assistant DB coach. Dolfans being Dolfanny.

Good for him. Looked like he was doing some nice work at the Senior Bowl. Hope he succeeds.

Eh, exactly, could be he thinks Reid will be around longer in KC, or they offered more money, or they have better personnel etc etc

At the end of the day, he will be getting coffee for the staff, that is Assistant land.

I don't agree with your assessment.I'm sure it wasn't Turner's doing that Jake forgot how to block after all those Pro Bowls he's been to.

Miami promoted him to Assistant DB Coach. Lou Anarumo is the DB Coach. He's getting a promotion by going to KC to be in charge of DBs there. IMO, that's a big leap for a guy who was just a coaching intern a year ago. However, I think he would've been good here; especially since it appears there's going to be new guys in the defensive backfield this year.
