Safari, as of this writing and if run on a Mac or Linix, is not so susceptible to spyware or viruses. Pretty much anything on a PC subject to attack so I can't make promises. I can assure you that Muck and I will NEVER tolerate add-ons to this site that will compromise your privacy or safety. This issue was one of the primary motivations to break from FH. We will never put money above your privacy.
I wonder if its a virus or not. You will have to see with Byroan, he knows this stuff very well. Have you tried running a "Disk Cleanup" ?
Try rebooting your computer in safe mode and then use those programs. Doing that will let you wipe them out before they have a chance to run during start up. This should help you get into safe mode http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm Let me know if it works for you.

sounds like a Geek Squad guy here... if you have any computer skills some other things you can do is regularly clean you cookies, temp files(regular and internet, and empty your Prefetch file. these are all things you should learn to do on your own kinda like changing your oil and rotating your tires kind of thing. the cookies and temp file are pretty standard but the prefetch files some will tell you not to touch. to me they are a waist of time and if left alone, will fill up with programs and slow you way down. if you are running XP, you should edit your start up file and turn off any programs that are not needed on start up. also, to really have the programs such as Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D, you really should run them in safe mode with networking for them to really be thorough. as CT stated earlier, you really should do these things regularly...especially if you're surfing porn. if you need any help, PM me and i can try to walk you through some of these things.
interesting you should say that. a recent independant study of Windows and MAC OS's since 2000 of the speed of security updates. Windows was quicker and maintained less than 20 incidents per day. Mac was at more than 20 per day and were slower in response. keep in mind that Windows is more prevalent than Mac OS's and they still have a quicker response time. i will have to look that up again and post it here.
Yep, happend again. I was downloading music off of Limewire and downloaded a file that wasn't secure and it had a virus. I have downloaded Spybot and Ad-ware but nothing. I need something to get rid of this **** already. My background just states that I have "several fatal errors due to spyware activity" and my computer is really slow at times. What can I do to once in for all get rid of this ? I have been trying the last three or four days. Someone please help! Thanks in advance.
first of all stop using Limewire. it just opens ports for "ads" hence all the pop-ups. legally, you shouldn't use any thing that is P2P, but i have found that e-Mule tends to be very solid. still have to check files before opening them though. as for your current problem; a couple of other programs you can use are AVG and Avira also known as Luke Filewalker. try rebooting to safemode with internet and download and update both. re-run ad-aware and spybot s&d, it may take a couple of times. load and update one or both of the ones i suggested, update and run. they may take a few hours each to complete. then reboot to windows and try them again. a good solid pay software, believe it or not is Windows Live, Care One. you can download a 90 day trial from Microsoft.com at downloads and trials. if you like the software, you can purchase a 3 license copy for $39.
restart(reboot) so that it actually shuts down and then restarts. as the manufacturer "splash" screen comes up press the F8 button repeatedly. it may beep at you, that is ok. just keyboard buffer over-run (basically telling you you don't need to do it anymore). the machine will go to a "black" screen with several choices. number 2 should be safemode with internet, just bellow safemode. the computer will then load several drivers needed for basic operation. it should hang for a moment, maybe longer if you computer is real bad. in XP and Vista, if you have an administrator account select that one. if not select your account. then the computer will start to load a basic windows for you. a window will ask you if you understand that you are in a basic form of windows and ask if you need further help. click out of the tutorial to what looks like a basic version of the desk top. from there you should be able to run the software with fewer problems. AVG and Avira may require you be in regular windows, so sorry if that is the case. otherwise use them in safemode first.

NP bro.... Try Safe Mode FIRST (Like D said) and run Spy Bot and some AV programs to see if it can get it. Although get ready just in case (if its a real nasty) because running in Safe Mode works maybe 10% of the time if that in my personal experience. You should always have at least 2 Spyware/Malware programs so if one doesnt catch it, the other one might.
I first did what you recommended to me and I still ended up having the "fatal errors due to spyware" screen so my sister's husband gave me the Norton AntiVirus CD and I installed that and went from there. The problem was a "tracking cookie". I have absolutely no clue what that is but I got it rid of lol.
LOL. the only good thing about Norton products.... the tracking cookie is generally a cookie placed on your computer by a site viewed just like any other cookie accept that they generally keep an eye on your internet perusing and relay that info back to another source. generally the info is used to direct more specific pop ups and spam e-mail. but, as you can imagine, it can also send info to places to determine if your computer can be exploited for what ever use. do not be surprised if you get re-infected. if you were more proficient with computers, i would suggest you run a registry cleaner on your computer(there are a few programs available for free) so i will suggest you find someone who you trust knows computers and see if they are comfortable running such a program for you. make sure you back up the registry first. messing this up will mess up your existing Windows, so if you choose to do so, be very careful
