They also came to the building because it was an exciting, engaging place to watch a football game..it's what makes a venue Special.

It sounds cliche, but Support and enthusiasm is something that is essential in winning..when people stop thinking their to smart to acknowledge such a cliche, we might actually help develop this pissass culture of football in this freakin town.

The self entitlement oozes from a lot of folks..they just think they need to go out and win, the team owes them everything, and everything we'll be fine, just sit on their ***, at home, or at the stadium, and wait., and complain..

Well, when you lose your team, don't go cryin about it.

Thing is it hasn't really dropped off all that much the past few years, and the team has been dismal throughout most of them. They still draw pretty well, given the size of the community. Just sayin' a great part of that happens to be the loudness and fun of the stadium, despite its rust and age.

Yes, and if they stay in office thru the buildings entire remodel, they will make a damned good chunk of change from the contractors that they insisted get the jobs if the vote goes thru. Kickbacks are huge reasons that things get approved .....

In 2010, 11 and 12 the Bills have ranked in the bottom half of attendance. In the 20's...

They have some great fans but we all want to see a good product on the field or its no fun in any place

    Fair point.

You can only imagine, though, what the Dolphins attendance would be with a Bills-like drought. Imagine no 2008 for us, nor even 2000 or 2001. Nor even the competitiveness of '02 and '03, and the hope of 2005 (later learned to be fool's gold). The Bills, short of a hot start in '08 and '11, have none of that. I shudder to think what Dolphin attendance would be like w/ such a dismal output by the team.

Obviously the politicians could always find a way to find public funding if that is their desire and they are willing to go against the will of the majority of the citizens in the county. The fact that the crooked owner of the Marlins was able to get funding from the politicians is proof of this.

As I have stated, as a football fan, I have no problem with tourist paying additional taxes to fund the renovations, or the politicians giving the Dolphins tax breaks to help them afford the renovations.
I just don't think the politicians are willing at this time to risk their political positions by supporting giving public money to the Dolphins. If I am wrong, great. It would just big one of the biggest surprises I have seen in quite a while, if any public money is approved, when 85% of the public is opposed to this public funding. I guess we will all know in the next few months if the politicians are willing to go against the will of the majority or if they are willing to put their jobs at risk, by approving tax dollars for these stadium renovations.

I attended hundreds of Hurricane and Dolphin games at the old Orange Bowl. Yes, it was exciting, but that is because the teams were exciting and winning. I remember going to Hurricane games in the 1960's and 1970's when the Hurricanes were not a good team and the crowds were very small. These losing teams certainly didn't make the Orange Bowl a comfortable place to be and the venue certainly wasn't an exciting place at that time. The Hurricanes becoming a dominant team in the 1980's changed all that.

The Orange Bowl was a more intimate stadium and when the crowds were large, it helped create excitement. The Dolphins didn't draw large crowds until they started winning in the early 1970's, just as the Hurricanes didn't start drawing larger crowds until they became consistent winners. In fact, there was talk in the 1970's that UM might stop playing football because lack of interest in the football team at that time.

Renovations to the stadium or not, it is all about winning for both the Dolphins and the Hurricanes. As long as both these teams remain mediocre, fewer and fewer fans will show up for games. I remember when Joe Robbie stadium was first built and the Dolphins were still one of the top organizations in the NFL. Nearly 70,000 fans would come to the games and the stadium was loud and there was no one stating at that time that the stadium wasn't a good football stadium or that fans were not close enough to the field. No one complained that the stadium needed a covering for the rain. In fact we used to enjoy the rain during September and early October because this cooled us off.

As far as Miami losing the Dolphins if these renovations are not completed at the stadium. Having been born in Maryland and being a Colt fan growing up, I certainly understand that anything is possible. I also understand that the vast majority of the citizens in Miami could care less if the Dolphins move or not. As a Dolphin fan, I would hate to see them leave and it would be depressing for me personally. I certainly don't side with the 85% of the public who oppose this renovation plan. I just understand how difficult it is going to be for the politicians to approve this funding, after being played so badly by the Marlins owner.

We've never worn teal. The Jaguars wear teal, the San Jose sharks wear teal, we wear aqua.

Unfortunately the only thing that matters in sports is winning. Stadiums don't matter nearly as much as putting a winning team on the field. You may not want to realize this. Especially since you are so adamant that the stadium needs to be upgraded. I just don't want you to be depressed when it doesn't happen.

As much as I might agree with you on the renovation as a long term benefit for the community, I just hope you really understand that the odds of the Dolphins receiving public funding is very slight. You, me, and many others on this forum care about the Dolphins and want them to remain in Miami. The problem is that the vast majority of the citizens in Miami and South Florida could care less about the Dolphins.

I think if the Dolphins had been winning over the past decade, instead of being one of the bottom tier teams in the NFL, getting public funding might be easier. I think the lack of attendance, along with the lowest TV ratings in the league is a giant negative. This merely shows the politicians that the public has very little interest in the Dolphins.

I like you and I hope you are able to see the renovations to the stadium you desire. I'm just not as hopeful as you are. Hopefully you will be able to tell be I was completely wrong about this over the coming months.

I don't have confidence that it will get done..that's why it's a desperate situation imo...who knows what's gonna happen, I'm just happy their talking about upgrades, it does tell me their aware of some issues, would like to see more support for them by the fanbase that does care.

Stephen Ross is between a rock and a hard place. He's approaching $2B invested in a mediocre team and a dated stadium. If the income stream is adequate, the county should just buy the stadium and get the financing from Ross. Win-Win.
