I don't think T'eo will fall that far at all. This, as I said elsewhere, is typical Bowl game reaction.
Spent the evening with Mark Brunell and my main man Jeff Reinebold. Jeff and I talked college football and the Draft. He said Chance Warmack was a can't miss prospect and he and Luke Joeckel were by far the two safest picks in the draft.
Watched some DeAndre Hopkins and I see a lot of similarities with Terrance Williams. Hopkins does a better job selling deep routes than Williams, his double move on Amerson was oh so sweet. He is physical enough to beat press though not sure you want to press a guy with his kind of speed. I think Williams has slightly better hands and is would probably be better in the offense Miami runs but Hopkins acceleration, speed set him apart. I'd say early round 2 for Hopkins. Miami should be eyeing these guys.
Would you be okay if we took Warmack at #12? I wouldn't be overly happy, but I wouldn't complain one bit... okay maybe I would let out a, "typical Ireland" comment or two, but I love Warmack. All that being said, I don't think it is likely that we take him there, especially with the way GB used later picks to find about half of their OL.
Glad you liked what you saw in these two WRs. They are my top two wide receivers (#1 Hopkins and #2 Williams). In terms of hands I would say they are about the same, but slight edge goes to Williams (like you said). I think Hopkins is better at running a multitude of routes than Williams. Another thing with Hopkins is he is much, much better after the catch and can break a tackle or two; Williams on the other hand is only good in space.
Jeff does studio analysis over here in the UK for us on our main football broadcaster Sky, and he's by far the most knowledgeable guest they have on the show. Usually does the playoff games, and last week was his first visit of the year after finishing the CFL season. Apart from knowing his stuff, he comes across as a very nice guy who'd be fun to spend time with.
I probably wouldn't be thrilled with Warmack, but it would depend on who was available when we picked. I'd prefer a position with a greater impact even if it was less of a sure pick. The most annoying part would be how it would bring out the Ireland critics.
Not necessarily. If Warmack ends up being a HOF player for us and the other picks in that range are far below that, I don't see how anybody could rationally say Ireland was wrong and the critics of such a pick were right.
First off, to throw out HOF is ridiculous as such a determination is 15-20 years away. But even if Womack was the best guard in the league from the minute he stepped foot in the building, he still wouldn't be exponentially more impactful than Incognito or Jerry are right now. Guards simply don;t make that much difference. If we had just won the Super Bowl and had no other pressing needs at other, more important positions, then sure, take Womack. Unfortunately, he's a luxury we just can't afford.
A HOF guard can transform an OL. He would allow us to use Martin on the left side because he could help in the passing game and would greatly improve our running game. Remember all those times we would hand the ball off and there would be no distinguishable hole? Pair Warmack and Pouncey and that won't happen again.
Also 3rd and 1's would become 1st downs easily. That's something to account for right there and makes a huge impact on the game. It may be tony Sparano logic, but keeping your defense off the field and your offense on the field is a good way to succeed.
I think it's arguable between quick feet, burst and speed. It's hard to separate the three cleanly. I like Nuke Hopkins, always have...even when most people were caught up in the Sammy Watkins craze. But he's a little deficient on speed, and probably more important in my eyes, doesn't have great burst. He's got quick feet and great agility, great body control. But if the burst isn't there then disciplined corners are going to be able to stay on him, IMO.

Dee Milliner, Eddie Lacy and D.J. Fluker all entering the Draft. Is there ANY chance Milliner is available when we pick? I really like what I saw from him in the National Championship Game and he is a position of strong need. This could give Saban some redemption for his poopyness here.
Really taking a close look at Lacy's work against Manti Te'o in that championship game, I came away pretty impressed. He used a lot of choice in terms of picking his slot and making decisions to cut to the back side, stay to the front side, or bounce it outside. The OL did a good job for him but he also did a really good job deciding where to follow it. And he did absolutely make Manti Te'o eat dirt in the open field en route to a touchdown, pretty sick open field spin move on a top player.
Lacy's a good player. Jeff R also called Matt Barkley 'just a guy'. To be fair to Matt, he also said the same about Geno Smith.
Not sure I really see burst either. Quick feet, body control, but not great speed nor great leg strength which translates a lot to burst.
How is Will Davis (CB, Utah St) getting so much love? He seems to treat tackling and contact like they're communicable diseases, seriously. Terrible vs the run, can't get off receiver blocks.
A guy, who if 2 inches taller, would be on most everyone's radar is Troy Davis from UCF. The next time to watch a UCF game, check out number 58 and tell me if he looks like a pass rusher.
I don't disagree with you, but I also don't see any way the Dolphins take Warmack no matter how good he is. I honestly believe Ross would not allow it. The backlash locally would potentially be as bad as we've seen.

I don't know. I hear half of the people complain that Ireland does whatever he wants and never listens to the fans and the other half complain that he worries too much about what the fans think?
