It was a WR screen from the perimeter though. You don't catch screens that go inside like that from the slot. Screens to the slot usually go to the outside.
I agree. I didn't mean it that way. More referring to his ability to do damage over the middle of the field in general. His downfield prowess would compliment him nicely in the slot IMO, especially with him being a threat to make plays underneath.
Ridiculous play. Would've been a 90+ yard run but the guy who caught Bailey in the end was Shamarko Thomas who runs in the 4.3's.
Geno getting bailed out big time by Bailey. Almost all of Bailey's yards are from short passes, and great runs.
Or plays where he gets Tecmo Super Bowl open against man coverage which lets Geno get away with an under thrown and inside deep ball that goes for a touchdown.
I think they suffer from Tavon Austin overuse. They are purposely trying to get the ball in his hands as much as possible, and sometimes that kills drives. Fumble now, jeez.
I don't know that I buy that, they're trying to get Austin involved because he's that good and he's finding ways to impact the game positively. Combination penalties, holding the ball too long leading to sacks, turnovers...just drowning in poor execution.
Now that I know I want us to draft Stedman I cringe when he plays so great in a nationally televised bowl game... Just makes his stock move higher and makes it less likely we get him.
He's a junior. There was always going to be an acclimation process where everyone thinks the guy is a third rounder then suddenly he's a borderline first. But his stature won't let him get above that IMO. The ground floor scouts are familiar with the juniors but the decision makers aren't. They and the coaches start getting exposure to them now.
Yeah. Bailey really threw him a bone there. He accounted for 65% of Geno Smith stats, and almost all were made possible by Bailey's playmaking ability.
Yup. First screen TD was all Bailey. Then another huge screen play that was all Bailey. Then a TD which was more than half Bailey.
Yeah I'm convinced on Bailey. I still really like Terrance Williams, however a acquisition duo of Greg Jennings in FA and Bailey in the draft, would just be a mouthwatering prospect for our offense.
For all we know he's not even on Jeff Ireland's draft board because he's not tall enough. I hope we target him. After today, I'm sure a lot of teams will though. A team with a young QB who needs help.
As a junior he was always destined to 'rise' but I think the truth is nobody among the higher ups with the teams have even placed his grade so far. I think some ground level scouts have but his tape is still being digested. Coaches will only be just getting exposure to him about now.
I don't know if he's fast enough to be Steve Smith reborn.... or quite as sudden enough.... but the similarities are definitely there, especially playing bigger than his size. I think he plays all 3 positions as well, but in my humble opinion he might offer greater upside spending more time in the slot than the perimeter. To me he looks like a 4.5 guy who plays faster but not quite as fast as Kendall Wright. What's your eye telling you?
Daniel Jeremiah said he's 99% sure Jeff Ireland was in the press box of the Pinstripe Bowl, looking at Tavon Austin and Steman Bailey.
Shamarko Thomas is faster, but Shamarko Thomas is a 4.3 guy. I think he's somewhere in the mid to high 4.4's.
I could see that range being possible. He's definitely on my short list of 40 times to watch at the combine. Te'o as well.
At the same time I could see him pulling a Golden Tate. Everyone thought Tate was more like a 4.45 to 4.55 guy and then he ran sub-4.4
Makes sense, and I hope it's 100% true. If Ireland traveled with the team for the Patriots game tomorrow, and I'm pretty sure he does travel when Miami is on the road, the Bronx isn't that far from Foxborough.
I think Wheaton will be faster on a track. Austin might be faster on a track. Not sure who else. Maybe Patterson if the rumors are true but on the field I'm not sure I see it.
I could see that with Patterson. I'd expect Wheaton to run 4.3.... no more than 4.35. Hart to imagine Austin any faster than he plays but that'd be a hoot to see. You think he's close to Deion fast? You know, I never knew Mark Duper was a sub 4.3 guy. I knew growing up he was fast but I didn't realize he was that fast.
Please, God, let Ireland bring us Stedman Bailey in 2013 and I will forgive Ireland all his trespasses.
Duper could fly. I think the number was 4.28. I saw him, Calyton and Marino go off in the Orange Bowl AFC championship game mid 80's- thing of beauty watching that from high in the seats. Another memory is Duper on the cover of SI after going off on the Redskins. That felt good after the Super Bowl debacle of '82. As fast as Duper was, it wouldn't shock me if Bo Jackson, Darrell Green and Deion Sanders were faster. But all those guys were fast. Super duper fast. Or Dupas fast.
Some interesting stats on Bailey: Against teams with winning records - 8.6 rec/game, 2.1 TD/game, 15.47 yards/reception, 132.6 yards/game Against teams with losing records - 8.3 rec/game, 1.25 TD/game, 12.12 yards/reception, 100.00 yards/game Basically, Bailey's play improved as the competition got stronger. That is a strong indicator.
Agree. Great stat. One counter to this... one 'over-the-counter' in fact... Stedman did, apparently, steal some over the counter flu medicine from a store. Wasn't charged though.
More on Stedman's stats and a historical perspective. Over his final four games of the regular season, Stedman caught 45 passes for 671 yards and 8 touchdowns. If you add in his 6 reception, 120 yards, 2 TD performance against Syrcuse, his final five games produced 51 receptions, 791 yards, and 10 touchdowns. His 1.9 touchdowns per game is second all time in "the college football experiment's" database to some guy named Randy Moss. IMO, this is a ridiculously dominant wide receiver that is being downgraded by many because he lacks prototypical size.
Believe it or not I personally think Joe Philbin is going to have alot more say in who we draft from now on.Bailey kind of reminds me of Cobb from GB so I can see us drafting him.
I hope he doesn't run too fast at the combine, a sub-4.4 time might push him out of Miami's 2nd round reach. Quite happy to see him run 4.5 and for other teams to then downgrade him as too small and not fast enough!
Reminds me of Golden Tate wandering into a closed donut shop and stealing donuts up in Seattle. "Whaaaa? These aren't free?"
