Do want to see something from Eggnog, just running open even if the ball doesn't go to him.

Yup, Bess continues to be out so we'll need Eggnog to line up in the slot and run some option routes which are kind of his specialty.

Gee, thank you for your psychoanalysis. Been taking Shouright's online course I suppose. If there were a figurative meaning there worth considering, I would have done so.

It may be good for that use. I suppose you allow Monsanto to tell you how GMO crops are actually really good for us too. :wink2:

BTW, how did your damn state not pass that GMO labeling ballot measure? Had to be something crooked going on there.

Metaphor: using or considering one thing to represent another.

Fine. I get that. I don't see how it makes sense in the way you used it though.

Things like, meaner than a snake, fast as lightning, smart as a whip, etc, those are sensible metaphors. Yours was Publix bakeries are like strip clubs because of your age and marital status. I would think a metaphor would have to make some sense to a few more people than just the one saying it. Maybe if I ever went to a Publix bakery, your metaphor would make sense to me.

Have also seen icing from cakes be applied to delicious round full objects to be licked off in lieu of a plate and a fork ... and other areas , although that was not in strip clubs ;)

Strip clubs get a guy excited. I'm making a joke that being old and married, food gets me excited. This is not rocket science. More people got that then didn't.

Just happened upon Michael's personal/professional website... it shows in google cache. Looks like he made it after the draft and deleted it since.

For those curious: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:4TM6B6GWO_QJ:megnew.com/+michael+egnew+parents&cd=4&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&client=safari

Some excerpts:

See, now I feel bad criticizing him.

Video Clips

http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-combine/09000d5d827c2074/2012-Combine-

And then a TON of cut-ups (seems to be by his parents, judging by the url) of his catches:

There's like eight more like that, and I doubt anyone here wants to watch them all so I ain't pasting them.

What IS a CRAPLOAD more interesting, though are his BLOCKING cutps:

When I have tim elater tonight I'm going to watch the blocking videos, since that is why most people think Sherman may not be letting him play... is bad blocking in practice. So I'm going to see just how good/bad he really was and if there's hope for this kid as a blocker. (Of course, the reason they are not activating him could be purely mental, like not knowing the playbook, but that seems very hard to believe... who cannot learn a playbook by this point in a season well enough to at least be active and get snaps when other TEs go down and WRs go down)

Maybe. It was a nice catch for sure. I seem to recall a couple of other impressive efforts by Fasano other than the one referenced. Clay had a nice catch down the seam that extended an eventual scoring drive that helped lead to a win. Can't recall which game that was off the top of my head though.

So, after watching 21 minutes of cutups of Egnew blocking here's what I thought I saw:

- does fine on combo blocks, but loses one-on-one
- can 'get in the way' of a pass rusher, or unmotivated defender like a CB who doesn;t want to make the tackle, but LBs and DE's get leverage on him and move him easily
- bad base, which is why he can;t generate any power
- lacks strength and drive in legs
- active hands, but tends to lose hand position battle on chest and shoulderpads, giving up inside position to defenders hands
- doesn;t quit on blocks, but does get beaten
- a lot of difficulty locking onto a guy in any open space
- not nimble footed laterally, and hips don't turn quickly and easily enough when a defender adjusts to deke past him
- really disliked his lack of effort on a fumble by his offense where, because other guys were closer to the ball, he didn't bother running back to get into the play. This as the ball was bouncing around back behind the line of scrimmage and for all he knew, a defender could have picked up up and needed to be run down from behind. Totally stopped playing mid-play. Hated that more than I can describe here. That sort of unaware **** (because he doesn;t seem lazy) is what loses close games.
- on a QB scramble, the QB is ten yards upfield, breaking tackles, spinning, breaking more tackles and ten yards behind him Egnew is walking and watching. Un****ingbelievable. This guy just turns it off completely the minute the play is five yards from him. Has he never heard of getting upfield and finding something to do when a play is nowhere near finished? I worry that he doesn;t have a FEEL for the game, because when you have a good feel, you can tell when a play is over, and when something may still happen. He's clueless about that, walking around when he could contribute. This reminds me of the HBO moment when the TE coach ripped into him for walking around watching a WR tryning to run after the catch and doing NOTHING to help the guy. Like Egnew thought his job was done since he didn;t catch it. That's just plain stupid on a team of 11 versus another 11. Campbell almost ripped his head off when he hit the sidelines, yelling at him to find someone to block to help the receiver who caught the ball. I mean, you are at the NFL level and you need to be told this? As a Tight End? Good tight ends should have a somewhat ingrained urge to hit and block defenders by now, you shouldn;t be introudcing this concept to them. I don't believe Egnew's HS coach never taught him that. Or that Mizzou didn't ask its WRs and TEs to block downfield for the ballcarrier (although from some of the atrocious Wrs attempts to block for Mizzou I think the coaching staff there wither didn't emplhasize it, didn't teach it enough, or was terrible at teaching it). Either way, Egnew forgets he is on a team and that he needs to keep playing during the middle of plays.
- Egnew tends to get beaten by a hard inside step, he gets turned and defenders lower a shoulder, twist their torso and are past him with Egnew pulling their jersey, waist, shoulder pads to hold them back. This happens pretty regularly. If Egnew had Fasano's number of snaps I could virtually guarantee two holding calls a game by him, unless he just did a full matador instead and let the guy sweep past to crush the QB/ballcarrier.
- Unless a tackle helps this guy, he cannot move anyone. I mean, I was watching college guys against him... the NFL is full of grown-*** men. Faster. Bigger. Stronger. He is best used in pass patterns, which means a D will blitz when he's in, to force him to block.
- Worse at run blocking than at pass pro... IF by pass pro we mean him impeding the DE or LB momentarily (like a runningback chipping a guy) on a quick pass. Egnew can get in the way effectively for a second or so, then he loses his man. In combo block zone blocking you'd think he'd be able to help a bit in the run game. He'd be a dead loss in a drive blocking Sparano scheme. Even so, he can;t move defenders off the spot and that's a weakness for a TE.

My hope is that the coaches have a plan for Egnew to focus on adding size and strength this year, and focusing on blocking. If they have really focused on that, there is some hope that he could become an average blocker, but a great passing threat.

Imagine Owen Daniels, but bigger, taller, faster.... and you begin to have an idea of Egnew's potential in the passing game.

He's just TOO good a weapon to give up on. If he plays this weekend, we should all be watching carefully and hoping to see that all those weeks he was inactive, he was actually being coached up and improving his blocking.

I'll certainly be hoping to see that.

Reports were that Egnew disappointed at the Senior Bowl too, so I suspect what the coaches have seen in practice has echoed the same issues.

But then this gives one hope he could be a guy that coaching will 'fix'...
http://101sports.com/category/tsoftli-blogs/20120125/Senior-Bowl-Diary:-Day-2/

http://bloggingthebeast.com/2012/01/24/senior-bowl-notes-south-team-practice-january-24-2012/

Some other Senior Bowl practice notes had Egnew looking good in pass pro, and getting wide open but being missed on throws.

The more I remind myself who Egnew was, coming in, the more I remember that he needed work on his blocking. The truth is, he could be an incredible player for for us down the road if we have the patience to stick with him and develop him instead of turning this draft pick into a wasted resource. Even if he looks bad in any appearance in the last two games of the season, I'm reserving judgement on the guy until deep into next season.

His writing, aside from the misspelling of "Dolpins" once, certainly doesn't suggest Egnew is dim or a blockhead. That only affirms the feeling I got when watching him interview, and what I had a friend who knows people who have interviewed Egnew extensively tell me.
