This guarantees the Yanks will have the lightest hitting, but fastest outfield in baseball

I actually dont mind this signing because in the end it came between him and Dickerson....

    Per rotoworld...

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Tigers have re-signed RHP Anibal Sanchez to a five-year, $80 million contract. Nightengale reported Thursday that the Cubs had inked Sanchez to a five-year, $75 million deal, but the two teams ended up going back and forth in a bidding war, and the Tigers ultimately came out on top. It's quite a payday for Sanchez, who just a few years ago looked like he'd never be able to stay healthy. The right-hander owns a 3.75 ERA over seven seasons in the majors.

Anibal taking advantage of a weak class of FA pitchers. Maybe a blessing in disguise for Chicago. $16mil/year for Anibal? Sheesh.

Yeah I like Anibal Sanchez. He's a very underrated pitcher (with some red flags) but for 5 years and 80 million? Have fun in Detroit.

Per Jon Heyman Twitter: Mets in deep talks with Toronto for D'Arnaud and Noah Snydergaard. R.A. Dickey would be going back the other way along with minor league prospect outfielder Matt Den Dekker. Not a bad by Sandy Alderson if it gets done.

Not at all. Only red flag with d'Arnaud is staying healthy, but he's solid when he plays.

I would love so much if the Mets got those two and Gose. Gose and D'Arnaud were key pieces given up by the Phillies in the Halladay deal. Im sure Philly fans would hate seeing them successful for the next 10 years in another division rivals uniforms. Snydergaard was a player the Jays refused to give up in the Gio Gonzalez deal and a big reason he ended up in Washington. Ive read a few places that had the Jays relented and given him up theres a very good chance Gio would have been a Blue Jay. And Nolan Ryan has tried to get him a few times. Come on Alderson....

The Mets will get more for Dickey than the Markins got for Reyes, Johnson and Beuhrle.

This year yes and we are a mess as it is. 43 year old closer coming back from injury. 39 year old SS coming back from injury. 3b who knows when is coming back. Cano and Granderson wont be the only FA's you have to remember Hughes and Joba as well. 39 year old OF signed to a 2 year deal with no catcher really. Shall i go on? Nm our #3 Pitcher is over 40 himself and coming back from injury who hasnt pitched even close to 200 innings since 2009. It would be a bloody miracle to make the playoffs this year nm get past the first round. Better to throw the towel in and get valuable prospects.

No, it's ok to trade guys in the offseason, just not ok to trade them when you're under .500 and in 4th place on August 25th because dammit there's no quitting in baseball.

(Well played! Made me spit out my coffee from laughter.)

You're assuming trading either would bring back valuable prospects though. Both guys are FAs at the end of the year, their value isn't as high because of it.

The Yankees are a win now team and are much better off just going for it this year and worrying about next year next year.

I was reading that its got the Mets getting one more prospect, possibly Danny Barnes...its supposed to be a 4-3 with the Jays working on a 2 year extension for the little Dickey that could.

Sandy Alderson will have turned 35 year old Beltran and 38 year old Dickey in to 2 elite prospects (Wheeler and D'Arnaud) and a 3rd high upside prospect who could become an elite prospect (Snydergaard). Snydergaard is the piece that could tilt this in the Mets favor long term. I have no doubt that D'Arnaud is going to be at least a suitable MLB catcher Snydergaard projects as a middle of the rotation guy who could become a 1-2 if he refines his stuff and adds a 3rd and possibly 4th pitch. Right now hes got a fastball that tops out at 94 that Ive seen scouts compare to Latos and a plus curve but hes coming off his 19 year old season at high A where he had a 74/22 K/BB ratio and on 3 different levels of A ball had a 1.99 ERA/1.08 WHIP

Thats cause Dickey is coming off a Cy Young year (actually maybe the best year ever for a knuckleballer...his control was insanely great for a pitch thats known for having no control) and 3 straight very strong years overall where as Johnson despite superior stuff has been a bit inconsistent and injury prone. Dickey has this year at 5M with supposedly another 2 yr extension being negotiated at roughly 13M per. Plus the Jays had to take on a ton of money in your deal so you cant expect elite prospects when one team is straight salary dumping.

For Johnson, no. For Reyes, yes. Reyes alone should have brought in D'Arnaud. Johnson should have bought in a Syndergaard/Sanchez. The best prospect should not have been someone like Marisnick

I think simply getting d'Arnaud would turn this in the Mets favor long term, anything extra is an added bonus. Like you said turning a 38 year old pitcher (no matter how good) into the best catching prospect is a hell of a deal.

Fair point. Ah well...Snydergaard is ahead of where Wheeler was at the same age and has drawn comparisons to Halladay/Carpenter (both originally Jays). And the rumored prospect to be named later from Toronto is an 18 year Venezuelan named Cardona (forget the first name right now) who was a big bonus baby (2.8M)....so when the reports say its not an elite prospect, they mean not yet, but he could be one eventually. God Bless Sandy Alderson. The only thing that could have made this better was getting Gose

Mets acquire C Travis d’Arnaud, C John Buck, RHP Noah Syndergaard & OF Wuilmer Becerra from Blue Jays for R.A. Dickey, Josh Thole & Mike Nickeas.

I loved R.A., but this is a great deal for the Mets!

With the Yankees getting old and alot of turnover in Boston it makes sense for Toronto to go into a win now mode. Yes the Mets got the better of that deal but if any time in the couple of years the Blue Jays win a WS it will be more then worth it for them.

must say, I am really enjoying this offseason and the moves and signings....lots of fun, and feel like just sitting back this go round and watching has been a hoot.....crazy money for crap seems to be the offseason slogan.

I really like knowing it will be 16/16 with HOU to AL, and even like the unknown leading up to the WBC and who will play and who wont leading into MLB season.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the A's have reached a deal with shortstop Hiroyuki Nakajima. Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle says it's a two-year, $6.5 million contract with a $5.5 million option for 2015. The A's have been courting the Japanese shortstop all offseason and finally decided to pounce on Monday evening after losing free agent Stephen Drew to the Red Sox.

The Red Sox announced that they signed reliever Koji Uehara to a one-year deal. Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News first reported the agreement, which includes a $4.25MM base salary, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (on Twitter).

The Phillies have agreed to sign left-hander John Lannan to a one-year, $2.5MM contract, the team announced today. The deal includes another $2.5M in bonuses according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com (all Twitter links).

Yanks kicking the tires on Michael Bourn???

Would like it from a speed standpoint, even if Gardner, Bourn, Ichiro to a point are similar, speed can help cushion some of the blow of injuries and waiting for Jeter and Arod etc to return. Having Bourn leadoff, is a nice angle to play with from a lineup standpoint and style of game (aggressive small ball perhaps?). Adds insurance with solid 4 OF including Granderson too. While I dont love that all 4 are lefty bats....could be worse.

All that said, seems like a long shot to happen while waiting for price to go down.
