Christ. Making something illegal doesn't stop people from obtaining it.

Guns are not as easily and cheaply produced as drugs are. You can't equate the two in this instance.

Yea, producing cocaine isn't cheap either but somehow they manage to get it done and fulfill the demand for it. Billion dollar cartels and all.

Also marijuana and cocaine don't walk into a school and kill 27 people including 20 children.

Only a guy with a gun can do that.

Or a guy with explosives. That's if he doesn't blow up his apartment building and all the innocent people in it first.

Except we don't have mass poisonings or arson. We do have a lot of mass shootings though.

And the reason is that it's a lot easier to fire a gun then mass posion people or set a massive fire with the intent of killing a whole lot of people.

That being said, I appreciate that you're at elast reasonable about this topic. So what do you suggest we do? Are shootings like happened to day just a fact of life?

Like I said before. It could happen, yet it doesn't very often.

Because it's hard to do. Guns are easy.

I am going to sign off another note, despite my opposition to becoming England II like some in here want, I do want better gun control, MUCH better, but I shake my head at anyone who honestly think outlawing guns completely is the answer, it ain't, the black market is always there and if there is anger and madness there will be a will to kill, unarming lawabiding citizens is not the answer.

Heh, not so, those things merely kill more slowly.

I do find the Govt worship comical.

So do tell, why not outlaw death?

lol Really? Anything that becomes illegal immediately has a black market. With guns it'd be huge.

Weren't you the one in that was asking how people would get guns into the country if they were illegal in the Treyvon Martin thread?

No, it wouldn't be huge. Compared to guns, drugs are small, easily made, easily transportable items. You're wrong in equating the two. If you were comparing two different drugs, say, weed and coke, you'd have a point. But you're off here.

Let me ask you this, if you wanted to buy something off the "Black Market" right now, where would you get it?

Body count in Mexico was over 20,000 in their drug war/insurgency

And they have the strictest firearms laws in the hemisphere.

See you'd be right but I get the impression that you have no idea how guns or drugs are actually smuggled in to the country.

I'd go to people whom I know that deal in such.

Illegal weapon trafficking is already huge on a worldwide level. I don't know where you're getting this idea that nobody here would want illegal arms.

Which is my point, how do people in Connecticut get something from Mexico? How about people in Aurora, CO?

If smuggling were easy, it'd just be called distribution.

There is a notion that stricter firearms laws will put an end to such killings, the UK is pointed to, nevermind it is an island and far easier to control entry of materials into the country.

Other thing that I find troubling is the huge jump to conclusions based on nothing at all.

Not that people wouldn't want them, that they'd be extremely hard to get.

I think many people have this notion that they'd be easily attainable like they are now, because that fits their narrative.

Horrible tragedies like what happened today get a lot of people emotionally charged and since more often than not, the son of a ***** that does the killing, usually kills himself or is killed by police, it only leaves the victim's families with a lot of anger, and no one to blame but the guns.

Fact of the matter is you just cannot up and outlaw guns. Getting rid of guns as a remedy to the disease will only achieve in spreading the disease even more, and making it stronger.

I've read what some people here posted, and with all due respect, this is not the UK. USA is a different animal, an animal without peer. Getting rid of guns will equate to outlawing alcohol, only worse.

There simply is no immediate solution to this. You cannot change human nature, and you cannot avoid mental illness that causes these things. Guns might have the potential to kill, but so does a spoon. Humans are the killers, and you just cannot do anything about it.

Stricter laws, more mental help, more education, more security. These are all possible and needed. But ultimately they will not completely eradicate these types of tragedies.

True, to me I try and assemble facts first and then draw a logical conclusion.

This appears to me as some sort ax grinding on the basis of a horrible tragedy.

So you're assuming that if we made guns illegal that:

People would just give up all the guns they have and alllll the guns that are already in the country would just be rounded up neatly and destroyed, nobody would find a way to smuggle more guns in to the country and that nobody would ever bother manufacturing their own guns here? All while automatically lowering the number of violent crimes?

That's a fairytale on way too many levels.

That's the logical thing to do.

Any time something like this happens involving the use of guns you're going to see the same debate.
