Indy - For Luck they resign Wayne, strike gold with Hilton when he was right under our noses, and youre forgetting Fleener too... although despite the injury that was a HUGE pick up for the rooks sake.

    Tiddlywinks indeed.

I don't care how awful we are, I really just can't see a loss sunday. Lol. We hung pretty tough with the pats and the 9ers in games i expected us to be shut out and/or blown out.

Question... how is this season playing out in comparison to your expectations before the season began?

IMO, they have exceeded the expectations I had for them to start the season. That is progress...

I thought it was winnable, and fairly easily so. Not necessarily 'automatic'.

But this one better be :l

Haha yeah, I know. However, I'm part of the camp that thinks the trenches is essential for offensive production. Now granted, I'm indifferent to the Ireland debate. I think we even had a mirage of a season in 2008, much like Kansas City did 2 years ago. I think we weren't that great of a team that year, we just benefited from an easy schedule and Tom Brady being out. I think we needed a full rebuild top to bottom judging from the fall from grace the following year. Now granted, that team went out there and finished and won the games, but that team was also a lot older than this one is.

I'm not making excuses for Ireland. Could he have done a better job? Absolutely. Is he doomed to fail? I don't think so. I think his successes on the defensive signings have been good, but the lack of offensive signings is turning people away. The offense is simply the more attractive part of the game.

When you have a good offensive line you have a more balanced offense (captain obvious is obvious). Better pass protection allows for more time to throw the ball (something this team has been struggling with this year), and provides better production through the run game which also helps with the passing game. There is no clear problem with the offense, it's pretty much an all-around lack of talent and consistency. The concept in my head I've been juggling with is maybe this year was a tryout for the carry-over players in regards to the new coaching staff, while still aiming to win games. We'll see. I want to see what Irish does in the draft and free agency this year before I have a fully rounded out opinion.

1000 times this. Although i've said it numerous times, This is exactly how I feel. My expectations were tempered and i didn't have any blind hope. I knew what this team was, and expected less than what we have done. I've seen improvement/progress, especially from RTH. it's there it's just not the overall improvement the team needs to 'turn around'... thats a wholeeeee different headache

Yeah the Chad Johnson that no one else picked up until June, and then was gone before July was over.

And then Ireland sits on his behind and does NOTHING in August.

And that's okay. None of Green Bay's receivers (I hate to use them as a comparison) were first-round picks if I'm not mistaken. Victor Cruz wasn't a first round pick. I could go on. I'm more of a fan of a balanced WR corps than a premier guy followed by a bunch of scrubs, but I don't think this draft class is really that bad. Just none of the guys have really separated from the pack. I was also dumb not to mention Ryan Swope from TAMU as a day 2-3 pick.

At least the Ted Ginn Jr Bowl is behind. Now on to the Chad Henne Bowl. Just hope Henne doesn't go all Culpeper on us.

STILL pissed that we didn't draft TY Hilton due to already having a "Speedster" in Clyde Gates at the time. We took a bum in BJ Cunningham instead.

This post both, frightens and confuses me, Bpk. All I said was I hope we have a really good draft and offseason.........................
I don't really understand anything you just said. lol Let them fire ireland, let them keep him, they are going to do what THEY want regardless of what we want. I'm just hoping we have a solid offseason regardless...... because lord knows we need it

(FWIW I hope they fire him because i'm anti-ireland, but still, I think you may have took what I said the wrong way.)

This management carousel is a huge part of the reason we are where we are. We are always so eager to send X GM to the guillotine only yo bring in the next doome GM. In turn we end up having 6 coaches in the same amount of years, or something ridiculous like that. 0 continuity, 0 consistency.

Ah hell, I have no idea what the answer is either.

We fire ireland, maybe it destabilizes us again and we start all over.

We keep him maybe we suck mediocre-style for a decade.

It's confusing because there is no clear answer. I'm leaning towards replacing Ireland, but Philbin gets at least another year, if not two, where the new GM must give him a chance.

Then again, it makes more sense to hire a GM and give him (or her?) full authority.

Its a double edged sword at this point, Although Ireland needs to be disposed of, thats not an argument. At this point you hire a new GM and give him our huge amount of picks and money for the offseason with limited time to evaluate, scout, etc, and who could arguably have more potential to screw up and not hit our 'needs' moreso than someone who has been here. Or do you let Ireland use this last offseason thats hoarded with potential..... blehhhhhhhhh

Unless Ireland has a solid offseason its lose-lose. (i'm saying this becasue I don't see him getting fired, unless maybe we lose out)

Well we've had the same GM for 5+ years and that consistency has brought to this point where good decent fans of the Dolphins have to spend their time debating the future of the GM.

In many NFL towns I wonder if 50% of the fans even know who the GM is.

Yeah, well there's a lot of dead air when there are no playoffs to discuss and meaningless weeks left in the season. So we rehash the same stuff.

    Probably.

It's like family. Each of us has our own personality. And the funny thing is, if we got rid of the annoying uncle who always rants at Thanksgiving dinner, it just wouldn't feel like a family anymore.
