My pizza orders generally cost between $12 and $15 bucks, so I tip $3.00.

    Damnnn...

I still do, but the "delivery charge" is like 1 dollar.

3 bucks on a 12 dollar pie + tip is not something I'd do tbh.

yeah, 3 bucks is a gip for one pie.... especially when it's only a mile away..... and even more especially if you're the only one eating it.

    Here is my general philosophy:

Pizza Delivery drivers=no tip, as most make mileage around here ($.29/mile) on top of their $10+/hour, and that was back in '99.
Wait Staff= depends on how hard they work. If they do the bare minimum, they get the bare minimum(15%). If they are friendly and actually take care of my table, then I am more inclined to tip larger(25-40%).

Do you ask her to come in while you look for your wallet.... and then have your robe "accidentally" fall open to your astonishment, gauging her reaction and your future scoring success potential in the process? ..... no, scratch that. I see you as the the dude wearing loose sweat pants who bends over for the wallet, providing her an eyeful of hairy butt crack while looking back to give her a "hey baby" face nod. :p

I waited tables for about 5 years while I was in college so i tip everyone well if theyre competent. When I do have food delivered though I usually give them like $5. Always found that the people with the most money were generally the cheapest.

 Not if it's a $100 bill I didn't. I'd walk out to their car, hand it back to them, and say "Just wanna make sure you have enough gas to get home". Ok, well maybe not 5 bucks b/c that's late night Wendy's money, but 2 bucks or less on a hundred......

What about calling an order in and picking it up? They always have a tip option when you pay. Even though theres no real service other than bringing the food from the kitchen to the counter, yet I always find myself in a position where I'll feel like an *** for not leaving anything, but stupid if I do. LOL

yeah ive done that before. And unfortunately there's a select few that are actually cheap enough to leave $5 on $100.

As a college student I'm not a huge tipper but my bill is rarely over 20 or below 8.00.

So we're talking 2-3 bucks usually.

What about these sort of fast food restaurants that you stand up and order (and pay for your food before you get it), you have to get your own drinks, silverware, sit yourself, etc. Then another person brings the food out to you. They give you the option to tip when you pay for your meal, before you even get it... I never know what to do there.

Actually that's pretty ****ty way to think about it. I used to deliver for Papa John's and the 85% of the delivery charge went to Papa John's. Gas is almost 3 dollars a gallon and with stop and go track you get about 23-25 miles a gallon. I know a few years ago I only earned 5dollars and hour plus tip. If I busted my *** and we are busy and tips were good I could earn about 12-15 dollars any hour, but that was cause I was fast and only cared about maknig as many deliveries as I could. I know other drivers only around 10 dollars an hour.

Also most drivers when they aren't out on a delivery are actually making your pizza. I prolly averaged making about 50% of the pizza's I delivered as well as making sure the order was right, and also gathering everything that the customer wanted. So no the drivers don't just deliver pizzas, they do a lot of other work as well.

I never typed there. I worked a retail job at the counter for 5 years and never had a tip jar. Retail isn't much different from food service when delivery isn't involved. I do tip delivery drivers at least 4 dollars if the order is right. I even go as high as 6 dollars and never never order more than 2 pizzas.

  29. I cant believe this thread is still alive

I really just wanted to know why the surcharge was added to my pizza if it didnt go to the driver. Why do they charge an extra 3 dollars when its not their car or gas that brings me the pizza. I live less then a 1/2 mile from the joint and I could litteraly walk there if I wasnt lazy. Why am I paying $3 to the store and $3 to the driver plus $12 for the pie. Im not cheap but it seems kind of silly to pay $18 for a $12 pie. BTW for the record because of that silliness I typicaly just go nextdoor to the pizzeria and buy a frozen one instead. I still get my pizza and they get nothing out of the deal. Thats how that story ends most of the time when im in the mood for pizza. That only costs me $5 :tongue2:

    5 dollars?

Sheesh big spender, think mr p's with home made toppings!

I do enjoy a pie every once in a while but college student budget means 20+ for a pie and bread (which I prefer to the pie most times) just is not happening very often.

I won't say it is ****ty, but will agree with the rest of it, when I ran pies we had to make them and deliver them and got like 5 pr hr and a mileage allowance but that was in the mid 90's.

I make a pizza burrito out of the thing w/extra cheese and raw spinach, actually pretty good tbh

    Still love a fresh pie.

For context my food budget for a week is like 25 bucks or less.

I was about to fist bump your post, Destroyer, until reading the 2nd sentence.

If I'm in the mood for a frozen pie I'll splurge for good stuff like Home Run Inn (Chicago style pizza) to change it up since I always get NY style for carry out/delivery..... and if I want a ready-to-go pie I'll swing by Fin-O's old lady's.

May sound odd but I think cats my age (mid 30's) who act like they are 22 is just the most pathetic thing I've ever seen.

Even odder tho, ladies in their early to mid 20's really dig me, I think they just like the maturity.

Hey, I'm tired of sales and wouldn't mind going back to school to pursue a different field. The next 30 years+ of work is a long time ya know. Nothing wrong with taking a little break to make sure you enjoy those years all the more. Only obstacle for most people is the fear of change, but that doesn't bother me. Besides, life is just one big experience, not a dollar sign or time that has to be spent "working in the real world". That's why I don't get some of these college kids who are in such a hurry to run off to the NFL. Running backs and players with nothing left to prove in college I understand, but everyone else, stay and enjoy the college experience while you can. Besides, they should be playing football b/c they love the game, not for a payday. Honestly, how many college players have to worry about money issues as a senior? You basically have it made if you're a great football player on scholarship.
