Do you still tip the pizza delivery person?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by shula_guy, Nov 18, 2012.

  1. I just ordered a pie and they add a $3.00 delivery charge to it. Its been awhile since I ordered a pie and just wondering if people are expected to tip ontop of that extra charge? I'm not cheap but it is a bit much to give somebody more then $3.00 to drive less then 1 mile.

Yes, the company generally keeps half that.

That's what Phinsational told me anyway.

The company keeps the entire charge. Or Papa Johns does anyway. When you order online it actually has a disclaimer that says the delivery charge does not go to the driver.

I tip as much as I can because:

    A) They make crap money.
    B) Having a bad job doesn't mean you are stupid or a crap person. Sometimes life throws **** at you.

Yes but for extra they will send a goat to your house. Thought you may be interested in that deal.

b/c if you're too lazy to pick it up [despite being less than a mile away], then you're probably too lazy to cook for yourself...... which means you'll likely bend over and pay the 3 bucks, which is why I charge it. :chuckle:

besides..... I usually compensate driver salaries with leftover pizza, the gift that keeps on giving, so it all works out.

I worked as a delivery driver in high school at Pizza Ranch. I made $5 an hour plus tips. They provided the cars and paid for gas. They charged a similar delivery fee ($2 I think) and kept all of it. Most people still tipped me on top of that, otherwise I would have been making below minimum wage. It depends on the company I guess. I would always be on the safe side and provide a tip. $2 won't make any impact on your life, and you don't order pizza often so it's not a recurring cost.

Yeah... it's annoying, but I feel like I have to tip. First time though the pizza I usually order from charged me the "service fee", so the total was $21 something... I gave him $22 and I said "keep the change." The driver looked at me funny and shook his head. I said "you charge a delivery charge." He said, "I don't charge it, my boss just started and it doesn't come to me." So I felt bad and gave him a few bucks. I mean the whole world could revolt and not order pizza for delivery. Like that's gonna happen  But that's just it, the pizza parlors around where I live have diminished in quantity. There's one left. You can't take the family out for pizza anymore.

Oh yeah? Did you answer the door with your fly down? Was this a Japanese pizza parlor? Did they charge extra for sausage?

  20. Since you brought it up I want to know why all toppings are charged equally. How is it the same price for sausage as it is for onions. Im calling you out pizza man.

I always tip well. worked as a pizza delivery guy after freshman year in college. got paid 3 bucks an hour. and delivering pizzas in Mississippi, I was lucky to make 5 bucks in tips if I made 20 deliveries. can't tell you how many times cheap bastards down there would be charged 9.95 for a pizza and wait to get their nickel back.
no discount on pizza and if there was leftover pizza, they'd throw it away instead of giving it to the delivery guys. crappy *** job.

    Yeah, no.

You're questioning whether you should tip the delivery guy, because the BUSINESS adds an extra charge. There's not a person on here who doesn't think that's what the dilemma is, so if there's a problem it doesn't lie with my reading comp, but you're ability to articulate.
