That is the way things work in sports, or didn't you already know that. I guess being mediocre year after year is okay with you. The fact that the stadium is half empty on game days, clearly shows that the fans in South Florida want much more than mediocre. Why do you think the Lakers fired there coach after just five games this year. Perhaps it was because they expect to win games and when they don't, someone needs to be fired. That is the reality of professional sports and the fact you don't seem to get this, is somewhat puzzling to me.
The most depressing thing is that if we lose another game and the Jets win, we will find ourselves tied with the Jets who are 3-6 right now.
Stevie Wonder could see that we should have cleaned house, and they should have been terminated together.
The head coach and all of his staff were just fired. The starting quarterback was demoted in favor of a rookie. Come on already. You can't just keep "calling for heads" because you're dissatisfied. At some point you have to let the new "heads" go to work and give them the time to do so. I know this line of reasoning is fruitless, however, because I'm well aware that nobody here who his posting his strong, negative opinion about Jeff Ireland is going to change it.
Sorry, some of us want our teams to be better than 6-10. Losing 37-3 at home to a horrific team is beneath most of our standards. Not yours apparently. Save the snark and apologizing for a week we aren't historically bad.
I see the Dolphins losing to the Bills this Thursday, both games to the Patriots and the game against the 49ers. They should be able to beat the Jags, and possibly the Bills at home. The Seahawks appear to be the better team right now, but I'll call it a toss up. So the best I see the Dolphins finishing are 7-9 and more likely it will be 6-10. It would not surprise me in the least if the Jets don't finish the year with a better record than the Dolphins.
yeah i agree it wouldnt surprise me if it is 5-11, i think the dolphins can beat the jags but that is about it, especially if they just go through the motions like they did today.
Shou, 5 years is long enough. He hasn't piled up the talent needed to win even a playoff spot, why in the world should he get more time ? Is he all of a sudden going to become a genius ? Even Tannehill doesn't save him, because we all know, and any person with half-a-brain knows that was not his call, but all Sherman convincing Philbin he was the one to take.
The fact that I have been calling for the firing of Ireland since 2010 appears to not be relevant to you. I have thought for the over two years that Ireland was not an effective GM. The fact the coach is new and the QB is a rookie doesn't change the fact that this team has very little overall talent and that is the fault of Ireland and no one else. Since you seem to love mediocre football, you must have loved the play of the Dolphins during the time Ireland has been the teams GM. Fortunately I KNOW that my position on Ireland is the same as the majority of the fans of the Dolphins. So if you are happy supporting him, great. It is always good to have those in the minority. I guess you now know how all the Romney supporters felt on Tuesday night.
Yes. There are always casualties and collateral damage in regime changes. Its a HUGE part of why so much animosity exists towards Irish. He should have been swept out with the rest of the garbage. Back the brinks truck to Mayock already. He knows everyone in this league from past Scouting and has separated himself from Kiper and everyone else. He has an NFL pedigree and the energy for the job.
I know but you didn't look at the Jets schedule and call those games. There is no doubt that the Jets suck more.
What's worse is he hasn't piled up the talent to even have a winning record in the past three years .It appears that this year will make four losing seasons in a row.
What's depressing about the Jets is that Ryan and Tannenbaum are going to get fired, and someone worthwhile may get hired to replace then.
He would be my pick too. I know Polian and Lombardi want in. Ross probably bypasses Mayock and goes after Lombardi - again being Mr Clueless owner.
I have faith in Mayocks talent evaluation, but I'm not sure if he is going to be ok with the other duties.
I know I am afraid of that too. You don't think Ross would go after Tannenbaum would he ? I could see him doing it. I think the remaining season ticket holders would finally give up the ghost if that happened.
I give former players the benefit of the doubt. He has an NFL pedigree. Not his grandpappy. Guys like Tannenbaum and Irish can get hired to do it? I have the utmost faith that he can handle the other things too.
No, not by my logic. This is applying your logic to slightly different base assumptions, which is still baffling and wrong. This team has performed pretty well. The team hasn't closed in close games and has had bad luck, but they could very easily have won any and all losses except the first and last, and clearly had the talent to do so.
I did look at the Jets schedule and it appears they have an easier schedule going forward the remainder of the season. I agree they suck, but if the Dolphins do go 6-10, all the Jets need to do is win 3 more games to tie the Dolphins and four games to have a better record. Hopefully the Jets don't end up with the same record as the Dolphins, and then end up picking ahead of the Dolphins in the 2013 draft. I would hate to see them draft a player just before the Dolphins that the Dolphins have targeted as their top pick. That would be the ultimate slap in the face.
The Rams didn't lose to the 49ers. They didn't win either. Tie game. You never know what will happen in the NFL. This season isn't over til its over. We may have lost a couple of games we thought we should have won. We may win some games we think we will lose. We were definitely 3 plays from 3 more wins that were losses. The sky is not falling. Don't give up on this season. Things will only be better after next off season.
Agree 100%. You can make very very bold statements while on TV. When you have to steer a billion dollar franchise ... things get a little more stressful.
I have an idea for a trick play that can make us win any game. I think we should make a few substitutions and purposely have a play with 10 players, then for the next play we can have a wide receiver run right off the sideline, line up and hike the ball. Boom, 6 points everytime! LOL
They have had many games over the past four season which they came close but failed to win the game. Good teams find ways to win those type games. Bad teams find ways to lose them. Performing pretty well is no longer satisfactory to me or most Dolphin fans. After five years of the Ireland regime, we want more than, "pretty well". By stating that they could have or should have, is merely giving them excuses for losing the games you think they should of or could have won. A record of 4-5 at this stage of the season remains a losing record, no matter how you want to spin it. The fact is that the Dolphins played their ninth game of the season under this coaching staff today. They were at home and they were playing one of the bottom teams in the NFL. They played their worst game this season and they were completely outplayed by a team that any good team would have defeated. I'm happy that you are okay with mediocre play from the Dolphins. It must certainly make following this team much easier for you than it is for most of us. Just as you state, they could have won every game except the first game and the game today. They could just have easily lost every game this season, except their games against the Raiders and the second game against the Jets. So I guess that means they had some good luck in the close games they won. Since you appear to blame bad luck for the losses. The fact is that they have yet to beat a team with a winning record and in the next seven games, they will be matched up with the Patriots twice, the 49ers, and the Seahawks. All these teams having winning records. The Dolphins need to go at least 2-2 in those games to prove to me that they are anything but the same mediocre team they have been for years. If they lose all those games, all they will prove is that they are the same old Dolphins. Which would mean they can beat some other mediocre teams, as well as lose to some mediocre teams and never beat a good team. While I think Ireland should be fired today. I am sure Ross will give him the next seven games to show that this team has the talent to be a legitimate playoff team in the near future. I don't believe they do, but like you, I will certainly be watching to see how this team performs the rest of this season.
In many ways I'm glad we have so many Fa's this offseason, this team just lacks playmakers and we need to reshuffle the roster. I had to laugh a bit, LT Roos did a good job today, Kraken had a handful of pressures, Long the #1 overall pick conversely had a rather poor game again, nothing quite like overpaying. Ditto Dansby and Smith, imo we can do much better for far cheaper.
Not really, only about half the fans were disguised as empty seat today. If Ireland is retained, I estimate that the empty seat fans will increase substantially in 2013.
Eh, we'll see in January, we are still the 8th seed if the playoffs started today. Thursday is just huge, a true must win.
