2 playmakers on offense and 2 new good safties would be a great start. Pass rusher and a good cover CB would be nice.
This really doesn't make the slightest bit of sense at all, and my "quest" isn't going anywhere, much less to whatever a "hault" is. Jeff Ireland isn't going to be fired anytime soon.
We're judging Jeff Ireland by wins and losses when Tony Sparano was a head coach, and the idea that Sparano was an awful head coach is accepted almost universally and uncritically. That should at some point produce some degree of dissonance.
You might as well hang it up Pate. There are a bunch of people here who entered the season feeling like crap about the team and wanting somebody to blame about it. All they're doing to do now is redouble their efforts at scapegoating someone as they feel the hopes they got up about the team until now were some sort of cruel joke that was wrong to subject them to, when they were right all along.
I agree with you on that point, he won't be fired, but its not because he doesn't deserve it, its because the owner doesn't have a clue.
I'm not lazy. I merely look at the 24-33 record the Dolphins have posted over the past three years and nine games to determine that Ireland has done a lousy job as this teams GM. That is about as informed as it gets. The object of the game is to, "WIN". The Dolphins lose more than they win. It is pretty naive of you to try and justify keeping a man in a position he had been a failure at, so far. Next time you two go out to dinner, tell him that I agree with the fan who told him earlier in the season that he needed to,"FIRE HIMSELF".
I hope he has a clue, but if he retains Ireland as the teams GM. He will prove you correct, when you state that he doesn't really have a clue.
How is this even a question you ask? A GM's job is to manage talent. Has the GM done a good job managing talent? It is not difficult to analyze the job they have done objectively and clinically. Do the research you need to find out what normal performance in free agency and the draft is, and then compare the decisions that GM has made to that. An unwillingness to do the work to have an informed opinion on a topic should be way more embarrassing than it appears to be to a lot of people.
This forum has a way of showing me why I'm glad I've spent the better part of the past five weeks setting about my wedding and honeymoon than participatung in "discussion" here.
Ireland will be fired at the end of the year. The stadium is too empty to sit on your hands and do nothing if you own the team.
You might not consider yourself lazy, but your opinion on this topic is very much fueled by it. Would you deny that a well-coached team can substantially outperform its talent level, and a poorly coached team can likewise under perform?
Can you just answer the question please ? I have done my research, and it tells me he has done a piss-poor job, is a rather unlikeable fellow, is not very respected GM by many of the players around the league and has a losing record under three head coaches. Many of the fans hate him, and a number of them refuse to buy tickets and support the team until he is gone. If I am Ross, he would be out so fast it would make Usain Bolt look slow.
None of those things you listed are actually meaningful factors in relation to performance outside of potentially the team having difficulty signing players because Ireland's reputation is bad.
We will turn it around when we get players who can play. Maybe ONE guy who can hold onto an interception. Maybe when we find players who don't take weeks, nay, MONTHS off. But yeah, let's keep whoever has been stocking this deep talented team.
I know you do. I hope you are wrong too. I just don't trust Ross yet to do what is best for this organization and what is best is to get rid of Ireland and hire a new GM. I just hope Ross proves me wrong.
Losing records are not all on the coaching. The lack of talent after 5 drafts is just horrible. The Dolphins need a new direction, and a new GM. But it probably won't happen, and no change for next year.
No, they are not all on coaching, and Jeff Ireland has certainly made mistakes. But factually, it's a quite big portion of it and it is very uncritically accepted(and I'm not sure I agree completely) that the Dolphins coaching was bad for the last 4 years.
Who the hell said the coaching was the issue the last 4 years? Any idiot can see that the same problems we had under Tony are still alive and well. The offense can't get into the god damn endzone.
So what you're telling me here is that Tony Sparano shouldn't have been fired and was a scapegoat for Jeff Ireland? Are you taking that bet or not?
Yes, I do believe the ability of the coach affects the overall results of the team. I thought Sparano was an ineffective coach and I called for his firing after the 2010 season. That didn't mean that I thought Sparano was completely to blame for the overall lack of talent on this roster. Especially if you want to argue that this years team has more talent than last years team, because of the players added to the roster by Ireland after the 2011 season. As I stated earlier, the Dolphins have a sub 500 winning percentage so far in 2012. This was after finishing the 2011 season 5-3 in their final 8 games. So based on your logic, the coaching staff over those last eight games last year were better than the coaching staff this year. Obviously based on their record so far, you must think the team is coached poorly this season and that Philbin is responsible for the lack of talent on the roster and not Ireland. Exactly how many coaches is it going to take to convince you that Ireland is the real problem with this organization? Are you sure your not a Jets fan in disguise?
Sparano was a terrible HC and Ireland is a terrible GM. So I agree, they both should have been shown the door in 2011.
No he has made more than "mistakes" he has made multiple ones. Also his social skills are suspect, and as much as many might want to dismiss that, this is a customer driven business and the customers are not coming. Usually that means the GM gets booted from his job in the real world.
Hey, you and I agree. The coaching wasn't always bad over the past four year. Even though I still think Sparano was in over his head as a HC in the NFL. He still had some good games as the Dolphins HC over his four years with the team. Just as Ireland has had a few good selections in the draft and in free agency. But just as Sparano failed to have enough good days as the teams HC. Ireland also has failed as the teams GM in player selection, far more often than he has been successful. Sparano was fired because he had more bad days than good days as the Dolphins HC. Now it is time for Ireland to see if any other team wants to hire him to be their GM, by Ross firing him. I seriously doubt any other NFL team would be foolish enough to hire him as their GM.
