True They did sign a 4 show deal though. It amazes me the card the went with though. EliteXC has some very good fighters and we only saw a couple tonight. I can't believe Shields wasn't on the card.
Agreed.. Especially with CBS owning the production and matchmaking over eliteXC which sucks anyway on its own. That is the major hurrdle for UFC to get on the networks. White won't give up or in either. Most hate Dana but I applaud him for this fight. Tonight just gave me even ore reason to appreciate Dana for his fight to keep the game real and pure for the most part.
Kimbo fight was lame, he would have gotten wasted by a good MMA fighter. He can't fight on the ground for crap. He was beyond winded after a round too. The fight was stopped early too. Honestly once he fights a real MMA champion caliber fighter he might get seriously hurt.
Lots of standup tonight. Kimbo is/was foreign to me, and honestly, I think he got exposed. He is slow, lumbering and any heavyweight with any skill will mop the floor with him. Thompson's ear was disgusting and I am surprised it didn't bust open after the first minute. I would have targeted it way earlier than Kimbo did. The women's fight was nice. and I thought the Lawler matchup was fixing to be a good one until that terrible stoppage. I would like to see these guys (and gals) use their legs more as most have become to reliant on punching and flailing. I think back to the early days of UFC and MMA and someone like Marco Ruas who would just kick the living hell out of someone's leg until it was hamburger meat and couldn't walk right. Then, when they were incapacitated, he would move in with punches and take them to the ground. Perhaps it is me being nostalgic, but I think these guys could benefit from watching tapes of guys like that and using their legs more often.
I got to see the last 3 fights (the girls, Lawler, and Kimbo) Girls fight was awesome. Lawlers fight was great until they stopped the fight but the guy said he couldn't see which isnt good. The Kimbo fight was horrendous. My god that huge cist on his ear was ****ing disgusting. I knew it was going to pop if Kimbo punched it, I was imagining it just squirting like 50 feet into teh crowd, make you think twice buying front row seats. Kimbo is a decent fighter standing up but thats it, if he doesn't win within 2 rounds he is gassed, any other fighter would have wooped his ***. Kimbo had it won after that 3 hit combo that popped his ear, you could see his face he went all cross eyed. IF the Ref didn't stop the fight Kimbo would have knocked him out. Kimbo lacks experience but what is strange is his stamina looks like he has no stamina. He is entertaining I wish the fight was standing up than on the ground.
Watching Kimbo last night, I think he'd get knocked out standing up in the UFC. If the fight goes any type of distance, he's not the same guy standing up as he is the first minute. At least he realizes he's got a lot to learn. I don't hate the guy. Just don't like the way these suits are trying to market him.
Kimbo is basically Bob Sapp, but much smaller and weaker. I think to the Nog fight, and how Bob Sapp took him to the limit. Nog would have subbed Kimbo probably in the late first round, once he was finished trying to prove a point, standing and boxing.
normally most fighters do before a fight. Sometimes if you get it done early in camp it will re-occur(fill with fluid) possibly before the fight. Everyone is shocked by how full that ear was. Just adds a small, small ounce more to the questionable nature of the card.
Actually Cauliflower Ear can be treated, but typically only right away. Basically the cartilidge has died and shriveled up which is causing the deformation of the ear. When it first happens, it fills up with fluid which can be drained and treated. The longer it goes untreated though, the harder it gets to treat. Besides, most people who get it are fighters on some level (wrestling, boxing, MMA etc.) and view it as a badge of honor in a way. Last night's was pretty bad though. Coming to the ring it looked like his ear was taped on and not attached to his head it was hanging out there so much.
Yeah really why the hell would you not want to drain it? All it was was a bullseye, I'm surprised it lasted 3 rounds
Thats exactly how I feel, nothing against the guy personally but he's way over hyped, admits himself he has ALOT to learn, cardio needs alot of work, and at 34 years old it may be alittle late to start a major career in the sport.
^Agreed You think if he started Boxing 10 years ago he would be anything special? I think he is a solid boxer, not much of anything else. If he can connect with a 3 punch combo and land all 3 its pretty much over.
He's making good money doing this, why would he change it now? He isn't in it to make a long term commitment. He's in it to make money. Fight of the night IMO, was the chicks. Imagine what Gina could have done to that chick with more time to train, she is without a doubt one of the hottest women I have ever seen in my life, and the fact that she is such a bada$$ makes it even better. The Last 2 matches getting stopped were bogus, terrible ways to launch your show on primetime.
he did that at least 3 times and Thompson didn't drop. Thompson is the consumate tomato can. This tells me that Kimbo's punches can't break wind, much less drop anybody.
He got in the combo twice. In round 2 before he went down to the mat, he was gassed and kept missing his blows, and in round 3 when they stopped the fight.
he landed a combination in round 1 as well. point being...Kimbo just sucks and we are waisting too much bandwidth on this fool.
Okay..let's pivot to a real fight... Faber vs. Pulver tonight.... I got Faber by stoppage due to GNP in round 3. I think it will be a great fight though.
well that sux, my cable company doesn't carry it on the package I have to where when I had satellite I had it included.
Versus is great. Pretty much everything WEC does is on there, they rarely have PPVs. Can't wait to see this one tonight.
For sure, always thought this. I wish they would have him do it for the UFC on an occasional basis also.
