I think there would be an advantage to getting him now. The pick might not be that expensive, and worth it if you are able to basically have Bowe as a rent-to-own situation. He'd be under the franchise tag this year and you could evaluate his issues and fit for a year and exclusively negotiate for a time. It's less risky than just signing him to a long term deal.

Work ethic/attitude stuff that Stringer Bell and others have alluded to.

Is there any possibility that Kansas City is the reason for Bowe losing the focus or passion he needs to maintain great work ethic (if it has indeed been compromised)?

Well, one way assures you get him. The other is by no means a sure thing to land him, and he will probably cost more with the FA bidding war...

Also, we apparently are not the best at "wooing" players... so why rely on the method of player acquisition that we are weakest at? (draft/trade/FA)

One thing I will say is that Bowe is from Miami. Take that FWIW.

Jason Cole only said the deal makes sense. He didn't say they were in trade talks. I would love to have him at a cheap price though. He'll be a FA so it doesn't make sense to offer a 2nd.

Anything is possible. But generally I don't think work ethic and attitude are something that change because of your area code. You would be taking a big risk assuming that a new location would change those things.

It just doesn't add up to me that Philbin would make character and attitude such a priority, then we would go and trade for a guy that reportedly has poor character and attitude.

One thing we got to keep in mind is that Ireland is a fan of sending out decoys and mixed messages, throw off people on were his interest lies. But in this case I think this is a 100% false rumor.

    Also:

    Ben Volin ‏@BenVolinPBP
Probably a lot to ask a WR to learn the Dolphins no-huddle offense & communication at this point. Look how long its taking 11-yr vet Gaffney

More along the lines of what CK was saying.

It's going to cost money regardless. By trading for him you are only "assured" 10 games of his service. You're not "assured" anything beyond that. You could franchise tag him and pay him 120% of what he just earned this year on the franchise tag...good luck with that.

And if your GM can't be trusted to woo players that are from your area, when you're willing to pay them market value, get a new GM.

Not to mention, he routinely runs routes lazily, especially when the ball isn't going his way. Someone will excuse him for having Matt Cassel throwing him the ball but that's no excuse; he's always been lazy.

Save the draft picks and take a long look at him in FA. I don't see any reason why this team should be getting rid of draft picks at this point.

Well, I was assuming that you would have a long term deal agreed upon before trading for him, as with most trades like this, where you are trading for a guy on the last year of his deal. I don't think a trade would be made without that agreement.

As far as the last part... that's an entirely different conversation. Fact is, Ireland would be the one making this move and would be the one deciding to trade for him.

Maybe for Moore and a second or third round pick, but Moore isn't worth more than a sixth or seventh round pick. The Chiefs would want the draft pick far more than Moore, because they will be drafting a QB in the first round of the draft next year and Moore will probably end up playing backup for them or another NFL team in 2013.

I would rather see the Dolphins wait until the draft and do what is necessary to trade up and draft Justin Hunter. I think he will turn out to be a much better WR in the NFL than Bowe. He will also be younger and far less expensive over the next four years.

It would make more sense to trade for Greg Jennings, he already knows the offense and is going to be a free agent next year.

This can't be true. I read here that Hartline is the NFL's leading receiver and that Bess is the NFL's most impactful receiver.

Greg Jennings does not know Mike Sherman's offense. He knows Mike McCarthy's altered version of Mike Sherman's offense.

He has been battling a groin injury all season and unless the Packers are willing to trade him for a late round draft pick, he just isn't worth the risk at this time. He could end up coming to Miami and sitting out injured for the majority of the season.

Guy has 31 TDs the last four years. So, a slight upgrade over Marshall. The question is, can we come out ahead in net trades

Just reading some Chiefs forums and they would hate to see Bowe traded unless it's for a first (won't happen).

I agree completely. I just wasn't sure if this is a case where a change in area code might serve to restore work ethic & attitude rather than attempting to change it. :dunno:

I'd be surprised though if the stories of him being lazy are true.

Then again I was surprised with BM. Can't see it going too much worse than that. As long as we have the same kind of escape clauses in the contract and aren't giving up crazy picks then why not?

I don't know that he ever had a great work ethic/attitude reputation to begin with. IIRC he was considered a diva from the get go.

This would have been good at the beginning of the season, but now, halfway through? I doubt it will be as impactful as it could have been. A straight up trade for Matt Moore would be in the "couldn't hurt to try" category, but even then, I'd rather just trade Matt Moore for a draft pick.

If Dwayne Bowe is lazy, why does he put up such big numbers? I don't see the correlation at all. Productive players are not lazy. JaMarcus Russel was lazy, just to contrast.

I think it got lost on the last page so I'll try again: Honest question and not being snarky: Can anyone think of a situation where a WR was brought in midseason and it worked out in both the short term and long term for a team? I can't, but I'm not trying very hard.

Obviously not all. I'm not denying his talent but I am denying his effort on a play by play basis.
