He could still produce but 20 million a season? I don't know. That's too high.

dude the kicker is he has NEVER put up big numbers...even in this lineup....never had 50 doubles, has never had 40 home runs, never had 120 RBI's, never had an OBP over .400, his strikeouts have gone up of the past 3 years......he is going to be on the wrong side of 30 years old, he slacks in the field and on the base paths....to me big numbers are like Hamilitons or Miggy's....Cano puts up good numbers, very good numbers, but not BIG.....

he is a guy who has all the talent in the world, and barely even tries....I am not floating a guy 20M to START (as Boras will ask for it) with those numbers I am sorry...time to reign it all in here....Cano might be in for a rude awaking this time next year....

ohh and there is the "doesnt do sh%t" in the playoffs thing too....

Yup 2009, my bad, my brain isn't working well today.

If he can stick at 2B, yeah his output is probably worth it. If he has to move to DH or 1B or even a COF spot, then no.

But the numbers he's putting up, he's doing it as a 2B. His numbers at that position are far better than anyone else in the league. Yeah I know he sometimes has his "Manny moments" but he's still an above average fielder. I get that you're down on him but he's still a really good player.

Word is if Jeter has to have surgery on his ankle he may miss opening day of 2013.

The youth movement is going to have to go into overdrive next year. This and next year were supposed to be rivera's and jeter's swan songs (add petitte now lol). It's a shame the bats have gone silent because we have the pitching staff in place this year to bring home another trophy. We really need some batters to wake up or it's going to be another lost opportunity.

Serious question, how exactly are the Yankees going to do that? Almost all of their position prospects haven't played Double A yet. Their top 2 pitching prospects flamed out (Banuelos is done for all of 2013 and Betances isn't a prospect anymore after his awful 2012 year). There aren't any good young FAs on the market, nor do I see the Yankees either willing or be able to trade anyone for younger players/prospects. Plus again as far as positions go, the only openings on the team would be at 1 corner OF spot, possibly catcher and DH.

I do completely agree the Yankees need to get younger, but that's easier said than done. Looks like the youth movement is at least a few years away. The Yankees might have to trot out pretty much the same team in 2013 that they did in 2012, with a few tweaks here and there.

To me their pitching is good, there always are the Colon's, and Garcia's of the world who for low cost will get you by from year to year....they got, CC, AP, Hughes, for sure Pineda I saw the other day is on schedule (same injury as me) and then they HAVE to sign Hiro.....

They cant do much in the infield. They can let Swish/CG go offer a qualifying offer to him and get the draft picks for them....resign Ichiro to a 1 year deal, hopefully Garnder stays healthy and find somebody else to play the other field, IDK try Dickerson who know....the one thing I will say about scouts sometimes and advance stats is they both paint a very balck and white picture, you dont know until you actually try the guy out, like that Austin Jackson for instance. They traded him because scouts felt he could never be an "everyday" CF for the Yankees.....really? Again Cashman lost that trade BIG TIME......your cost controlled CF'd of the future is sitting ion Comerca Park "everyday". Again be smarter.

As far as A-Rod Cashman has to try everything possible to rid himself of him...dont ask, because IDK how he will, it isnt my job, it is Cashmans...

It isn't necessarily getting younger, just be smarter with money, why throw 15M+ at CG or Swish because of the name? Those guys are bums, let them make their money elsewhere...

I don't understand this. So because he's a 2B he should get paid well? If anything he should get paid more since there's a big drop off in talent at that position, so there's a premium. It's not like 1B where there's like 15 to 20 good ones in the MLB. The top talent at the 2B pool is extremely thin, ditto for SS, catcher and probably 3B now.

I'd love to hear the source of that and if it's from a player or someone with the Yankees they should put their name with that quote.

But nothing of what you said is them getting younger, which was my question of how they can go about doing that quickly, which is what Prez said.

I agree they have to be smarter with the money they spend, every team does really but there have been a lot of rumblings about the Yankees needing to cut costs so they don't have to pay that big luxury tax fee coming up. This is probably a discussion for another day but it's possible that this could be the Yankees swan song in terms of being a playoff team each year due to the age and decline of their players and the massive contracts they still on the books (and not even factoring in paying Cano, who I assume they will resign). If the team is really going to be limited in spending they will need to get very creative in how they can bring players in.

Again though like I said we're probably getting ahead of ourselves right now but outside of a few tweats here (letting Swisher go) and there I think the 2013 Yankees will be pretty similiar to the 2012 Yankees.

Yeah but that's the year after Canos contract. Cano will get 15M as well next year making him the highest in the league. I offer 5/16 after next year. That's fair for both sides.

Tonight's line up is certainly interesting.

I feel bad for Gardner, the guy hasn't started in a game since the middle of April and now he has to face one of the best pitchers in baseball. And I feel bad for Nunez's eventual error(s) tonight too.

wow this is sad. Yankees come up big, get a nice double play, and only gave up 2 runs, 1 of them was because of Chavez Error. Nunez made a nice play to save a run. Overall that side of the team is doing well. Bullpen came up big but no one is hitting. Detroit has 30 min innings, yankees have 6 min innings. I know its verlander but still. You are making every pitcher look like Verlander. Its a shame because this pitching is good enough to win a championship

3-0 100$ says verlander gets out of it

Edit: i would have lost but yanks wont score Ichiro, 100$ on that.

Edit: 1 out. Double play about to come

Canos up. Easy out here, 100$ on it

Won that one. SHOW SOME EMOTION YANKEES man this is horrible to watch. Hopefully tomorrow they can put my out of my misery.

If we have any chance its here with Ibanez.

Well i am up 200$. Yeah if they lose today, i hope they lose tomorrow, i cant handle much more of this pathetic play. This is the worst I felt as a yankee fan. This is pathetic, utterly pathetic. Swisher wants Jason Werth Money? Good luck with that Pal. You wont get anything close to that. I hope they don't resign him. This team sucks. The person I really feel bad for is Ibanez is because everything he done this postseason will be for nothing and wont be remembered as much as it should be. Poor guy.

Well this is my last post in this thread. I am too sick to even look at this thread. I can't wait until it gets off the first page. Someone else can create the 2013 Official thread. I am done with this team for a while. Good Luck Detroit but I hope the cards win! I don't blame Girardi or even Kevin Long. These guys are professional hitters, they should not forget how to hit in October. I blame Alex Rodriguez, Nick Swisher, Granderson, Cano. These guys needed to play a lot better then they did. None of them hit at all. Swisher needs to go. I was a huge fan of his but man he is terrible. I am still a fan of Arod. I felt he got shafted with majority of the blame put on him when other guys were doing worse, Granderson. This team is good enough to get to the playoffs but when they get there, they just fall apart. Sad too because pitching and Bullpen were amazing. Great job by their pitching staff all around. And nice job Joba. You did a great job near the end of the season. I wrote you off but you have played better. Phil Hughes was also amazing for us, sad to see him get hurt today. I hope we see Andy back. Would have loved to seen him get his 20th win in postseason but thats not going to happen. Soriano did a hell of a job filling in for Mo! Hats off to him. I hope they don't overreact like Boston did, but they need changed. This is just unacceptable.

In my opinion, a bit of an over reaction. I understand the frustration but don't understand wanting to be done with this team for a while. You still had a great season.

If our pitching has been sucking along with the bats it wouldnt be so frustrating. Its like our lineup just doesnt give a damn. And when Teix makes comments that he wont ever bunt period it just pisses people off.

It is crazy. You had the best hitting during the regular season OPS wise, and an average rotation. Complete opposite during the playoffs, apparently.

Before we get too carried away with these Arod getting traded to the Marlin rumors or any team really, let's just say I have an extremely hard time believing that any team still in the playoffs right now is talking about trading any player (no less someone like Arod who has a NTC and tons of years/money left on his contract).

And also I know a popular topic is trading Arod to the Dodgers for Carl Crawford since the years/money are pretty similiar, however Crawford has in his contract that if he is traded from the Red Sox the team that acquires him CANNOT trade him to the Yankees. Not sure if there's a 3 or more team deal loophole or if Crawford has to play in X amount of games or be on a roster for X amount of days before he can be traded to the Yankees but just some food for thought.

he would waive it for Miami....

and last night and tonight's decision to bench A-Rod was Cashman's decision.....

Cashman is about to lay hammer....

the best thing that can happen tonight is they lose.....hate to be negative, but thats the way it is...Cashman will be forced to make a move...

Best thing that can happen is they win 4 in a row......IF Arod somehow gets traded winning today or losing today will have nothing to do with it.

More bad news for the Yankees, now that this game is rained out IF there's a Game 7 then CC would be on 2 days rest so your game 7 starter would have to be between Phelps, Lowe, Hughes or add Nova/Garcia to the roster and DL Hughes for the season.
