All the reports I've seen were written around the time of this year's draft, looking back, rather than at the time.

Exactly! After he was drafted. I would challenge anyone to produce one link from a year ago stating at that time that Ireland had any special interest in Tannehill.

Me neither. Everything we know IMO about the extent of Ireland's interest in Tannehill has been based on comments he's made since the time he was drafted.

Agenda? The only agenda I have is that I would love this team to start being a consistent winner of football games. Just because I believe Philbin is the mastermind of the current situation doesn’t mean I think he and Ireland can’t coexist and be successful. Actually, I would prefer that they can. FO/staff continuity is the one constant of all contending football teams.

Even though I hated seeing Davis traded I was encouraged by the interaction between Ireland and Philbin making the decision on Hard Knocks.

I'm going by more than the published reports. I heard we were high on RT almost two yearsback and those rumors were talked about here. It was one of the reasons I first started scouting RT and I did that way before Philbin was even considered.

I never saw a single post or thread here in 2011 before the season, or any point in 2010 that said Ireland is high on Tannehill.
Ireland probably was interested, but as he should do, the level of interest was kept on the down low, as far as I could see.

But how often do GMs or scouts talk about people they are interested in during the season? I don't recall that ever happening, and it wouldn't be smart. You're supposed to hide your interest in players you want to draft so other teams don't leapfrog you and grab the guy you wanted.

It's no different than smoke screens that appear around draft time. There is nothing to see here.

I read this and it made me laugh

Somethin like, when Tannehill was a freshman and Sophmore receiver, the receiver coach loved his talent but said he was never in the receivers meeting room, always the qbs.. pretty funny if you think about it,

Isn't a homerun w the bases loaded just a poorman's way of saying a grandslam?

Seems to me the optimism over Tannehill, optimism with our HC/OC/DC, etc. and the position Ireland has put the Dolphins in for the upcoming draft with so many picks plus all the cap space he's created to go buy a rock solid WR FA next Spring, that Ireland has put this team into position to become a top-tier team with expectations of playoffs on an annual basis. Ireland has bought himself at least another couple seasons with Mr. Ross IMHO, and Ireland had to have a say in drafting Tannehill or we're Fu/*-ed at the GM position.

Frankly I don't see where Ireland has done that poorly since Mr. Over-the-Hill Parcells left. To the contrary I see Irish improving and gaining confidence, and why wouldn't a promising young rookie at the GM position get as much rope as a 1st to 4th round Draft Pick would? I also have a lot of respect for Parcells who WILL be a first ballot HOF pick (he just needs to retire, I think the game has passed him by but his ability to spot talent at a position such as GM is unquestionable to me IMO), and his selection & grooming of Ireland speaks volumes about what we have in the way of a GM who should/will likely get better every season/off-season.

Why do we spend 90% of the posts on a Gil Brandt/Ryan Tannehill thread talking about whether Ireland liked or picked Tannehill? This is why I rarely venture out of Club, where a thread about Tannehill would be 90% about what we've got at QB and why/why not we think Tannehill will develop into the real deal. Who gives a damn about how/why we picked Tannehill? What I personally care about is what we think Tannehill is capable of becoming, how fast he'll get there, and how far this team can go on Tannehill's back.

For those of you who haven't ponied up for Club membership, this alone is why you really should spend the measly fee they charge for Club Level.

Ireland has said previously that he had Jake Long rated as the best player in college football for 2 years.
