I see a very talented player..in terms of speed, a deeper repertoire in his route bag, big time plays,Marshall has no chance against Jennings..

Packers are missing that dude..and there's absolutely nothing wrong with A Rodgers except an important missing link.

I'm with you DJ in that Jennings is definitely NOT just a product of that system. He has some real talent with a great all around game.

I just don't buy that Ross's mission is to be flashy..I give him credit trying to figure out ways to bring life in a dead place.

Nope, definitely not. I don't know if people simply forget or don't realize he was the 36th pick of 2008. That's not exactly slouch material.

That's how I hope the first 4 or 5 picks go, but it'll all depend on the board (or value), like you said. Woods is my 2nd favorite receiver in your state.... behind Allen. :tongue2:

It's funny, most of my friends had no idea he was a round 2 pick. I don't know if it's because he's white, but for some reason people think he was some nobody that blossomed into a stud (like Welker). Despite the fact that he was just as good as Michael Crabtree and had many big game performances (including Aquib Talib who was a 1st rounder) against highly competitive teams, he never popped in terms of fan/scout recognition. How many guys 6'2-3", 215lbs, 4.4 runner, who can run clean routes and catch everything get no attention? Strange...

The same kind of goes for Hakeem Nicks. Prior to last season, nobody knew too much about him. Meanwhile, most of us on this board were drooling at the prospect of drafting him. Although, I did get some cred from friends for talking him up during our draft party. I told them how badly I wanted him all throughout the draft. Hoping he would slide to us. I also told my buddy Giant fan what a stud they had in waiting.

    Definitely shared sentiments. ^^^^

BTW, the Redskins have GOTTA be kicking themselves considering they took Devin Thomas 2 picks before Jordy.... and then ignored DeSean Jackson at #48 only to draft Malcolm Kelly 3 picks later. Talk about a royal botched job.

Any Gronk/Graham/Gonzo tight ends coming out (or could come out) that are on your radar? I haven't paid too much attention to CF this year since i work on Saturday afternoons. If it's available to us, I would be more happy with a DE/WR/TE (any order) combination than a CB one at this point. To me, if you get rid of Vontae, sign Marshall, it's counter productive to spend an acquired pick on the same position you acquired the pick for. It's not like Vontae's potential was skill set was **** and we robbed Indy. If we need some help with that position, go pay someone in F.A.

And more importantly, I want us to finally take the offensive side of the ball serious. We drafted a franchise QB. Give him potential playmakers to develop with for the next few years. In year 3 or 4 of Tanny's tenure, there's no reason we couldn't be in a similar situation as Atlanta if the team hits on some offensive players early in the draft (at least ones who stand upright).

No effect on how the car runs....
This coming from a guy who studies the game so much just floors me. Really does.
Hell why bother with WR's at all. Just have your DB's play both ways.

Agree on WR and DE, but not safety. Get a great CB to pair with Smith and you have two good corners plus Wake and a new pass rusher. That Safety won't even come into play.

I'm the wrong guy to ask about college stuff. I go through replays, videos and highlights of guys on various lists and boards to formulate my own opinion, but I don't watch many complete games or seasons or anything.

I haven't looked at TEs yet.

I agree that a great TE could help a lot. Tannehill is actually quite good at completing down the seam and middle throws (a huge question mark I had about him coming out because he favored sideline routes in college, or Sherman did, or both). A TE who does what clay was SUPPOSED to be able to do this year would make a big difference in the redone, the TD totals, and also open up the inside running game by forcing The ILBs or MLB to be less aggressive. If the TE is good enough it could even force a cover three look, really opening things up for the running game.

Insofar as not going after a CB in the first three rounds... In that case DE has to be your first pick, IMO. You need a dominant front four creating massive pressure to protect your weaker back end CBs and Safeties.

I think TE is more of a need than a pass rushing DE. If I had to place an order of importance to our needs I would say WR, S, TE, DE, CB, K. I hate that I have to through in a kicker but its true this year. You made me throw in CB because I agree with your post. Unfortunately I hate to bring up Ireland but I say he is directly responsible for the needs at WR and CB and hopefully he resigns all of our would-be free agents so that no more needs are created before the next off season. And of course we have needs at depth at several positions.
directed at anyone reading this: would anyone agree with these needs? would anyone add or take away from these needs? And how many of these needs do you think will realistically be resolved after next off season?
I count 6 immediate needs and I hope to have at least 4 starters to fill those needs next season. 3 from the draft and 1 from free agency. It would be nice to get 4 from the draft and 1 from free agency but thats probably not realistic IMO.

I'm more than OK with a 4-3 defensive end with the first. Pass rush influences passing D more IMO anyway. Any CB in the NFL can cover a guy for two seconds solid.

It's the 3-4 defensive ends with the first I have no patience for... I've never understood why teams waste 1st round picks on 3-4 ends with their #1. So much talent, speed, and athleticism on the board, and you choose a player for a position which is incredibly limited. Or do what Oakland does, and trade two #1's for one... It's the reason I hated the Odrick pick so much (still do). Could of had JPP too... Imagine that?

When I see Wake get his finger tips on QB's and they sidestep to the right, I always imagine what it would be like to have a Jason Taylor in his prime opposite of him (a guy so good he made every Miami DE opposite of him millions in F.A.). With Starks and Soliai in the middle no less. Seriously, imagine that. You're pretty much ****ed every play. Now insert Paul instead of Taylor. Same result... So yeah, I'm down with DE for the 1st. TE/WR with 2nd. and TE/WR with the other second. CB in F.A. Sounds smart.

As a follow up to my last post, I think there is potential to have more starters from our loaded draft but I am just thinking about players that we acquire next off season that will have an immediate impact on offense and defense next season. Some will immediately impact Special teams, and some of those and others will add depth and hopefully eventually be starters a couple of seasons in the future.
I just want a proper assessment of our current needs and a realistic opinion on how many needs will be met for next season. I don't think we are too far away from having no immediate needs. Hopefully we can accomplish that in 2 years and we can start using off seasons for depth and/or planning for the future!

I'd rather pay Wallace mainly because he's younger than Bowe and Greg Jennings, who at this point seem to be the best two alternatives in free agency. I also think he brings an element to this offense that it currently lacks at any position - elite speed. And I think you've got a chance to pair him with Tannehill longer than you would Bowe or Jennings.

Adding him I think would allow you to be more creative with BOTH Hartline and Bess in the slot AND on the outside. I also think he would help other guys getting YAC because even if you don't throw it to him deep, he's still going to take 1, and probably 2, defenders with him. I think someone here posted Miami's current receiving corps has done better this year in YAC yards than in any game last year; I think Wallace improves that as well.

I know some will say that Wallace's skillset is limited to getting deep, but he's damn good at doing that, and I think it's helped some of the Steelers receiving corps in big ways with Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown. Without Wallace, are those two as productive as they are? Obviously Big Ben keeps plays alive and that gives you a chance. Ryan Tannehill's shown the ability to do the same thing. You couple that with Wallace in addition to Hartline and Bess; that's some serious firepower. Especially if Charles Clay figures out his 2011 form again and you can train Michael Egnew on.

He is talented. I'm not saying he's not. But he simply doesn't measure up physically with a lot of WRs in the NFL. Sure, the Packers are missing him as any team would be any good player, but if you are suggesting that Greg Jennings being healthy is the main difference between the 2011 Packers offense and the 2012 Packers offense I think you are waaayyyy off base.

They're probably not going to go into the draft and fill 1:1 needs vs. top draft picks. They've got relatively few dire needs and a lot of situations where it's reasonable to sit tight. Most of the perceived "needs" the Dolphins can quite arguably sit tight on if they are so inclined.

Both Chris Clemons and Reshad Jones are playing well. Odds are they aren't going to do anything at safety. People don't like Jared Odrick at DE and "draft gurus" have tried to poison the well in regards to Olivier Vernon, but it's not unreasonable they give he and Derrick Shelby time to grow into the role. People want a seam-splitting tight end, but Charles Clay and Michael Egnew are going to get a chance to fill the role, and odds are if they're replacing someone, it's going to be a "real" tight end role with Fasano as a FA.

There's a pretty good chance that there's a lot of BPA at positions that aren't huge perceived needs in the next draft.

Nah bro, we don't need WRs. We can just line up players like Incognito & Soliai at WR, since, you know, we don't need elite talent at WR.

Just a guess but I'll bet the pro player personnel department does more accurate internal assessments now that they get info from a Philbin staff instead of a Sparano staff.

I agree with this and believe that one should draft more for BPA than for need, but with so many picks they may be looking to package some of those 5 early picks to move up and get 2 guys they really want at particular "need" positions. How they approach that may depend on how things go the rest of the season and how many perceived needs they have. My gut does tell me they will be more patient about the development of the guys we have at TE and S than many fans here would be.

I do think it's time to start moving up in the draft like you said. Get some impact players that are going to get this team over the hump, rather than standing pat with draft picks that have much less probability of being such players.

You wait till this the off-season for that one. I don't know how it can be done money wise, but the team needs to retain talent and draft picks. Wallace+a CB to move Marshall to FS would be bliss.

That ability to scare the safeties off will pretty much make Hartline and Bess ridiculous underneath. Fasano will get some space too and the run game, well that's another story.

They've got the means and are arguably in good position for it, but the guy has to be there. It's early, but looking at prospect rankings and assuming the Dolphins end up in the 10-20th pick range, there's not a lot of receivers or safeties disqualified. There look like a lot of good pass rushers, but when you consider the scheme aspects it's even murkier.

I don't know that traditional "FS" stereotypes really apply here or that Coyle wants a guy like that.

    2- WR
    2- DE
    3- S

Would not surprise me, however Keenan Allen fits the bill as a Dolphin flanker.

Going by history we hit on the first, miss the first second, get an okay second 2nd who needs three years before playing above avg, and one of the next three picks works out... Probably the late third, never the fourth rounder.

That means we'd get a good CB, a DE who is just a guy until the 2015 season when he kicks butt, and a decent Tackle.

I would hate a CB with the 1st overall. You just traded a round 1 CB for a 2nd round pick. You're just chasing your tail... It's not like we traded a talent less hack. There are some decent CB in free agency.

I don't see why we can't get someone solid in the 4th I mean going by recent history Lamar Miller looks like he could at least be an average running back but has a lot of potential to be even more same with hartline I say he's above average WR and P Soliai is arguably one of the best if not the best nose tackle.

We finally (think) have our long term answer at QB and everybody is up in arms that Ross wants to give Tanny a #1 level WR to throw to? What the heck?

Who in the world wouldn't want a Larry Fitzgerald or Andre Johnson on this team? Use the stockpile of draft picks we have for the upcoming draft and get the next version of those guys, also develop who we have, and fill the holes at TE, RG, CB, FS, a super pass rusher to compliment Wake and watch this team go to the playoffs every year for a long time.

We would all love to get great players at all those positions. Where we end up disagreeing is on how to prioritize them.

Rank WR, TE, RG, CB, FS and DE in what order you'd pick them in from 1-6 assuming they get worse as you go down.
1 - starter with chance to be special
2 - chance to start year one, may need a couple years to be good
    3 - same as #2
4 - contributes but not talented enough to start
5 - makes roster, doesn't play much or at all
6 - depth guy or doesn't pan out

That probably about what you can expect from filling six positions through the draft. Unless you have six first round picks.
