I highly doubt Ross said that Specifically Hartline and Bess were not number one receivers..

If he did, there's a problem.

This just goes to show who is calling the shots. The theory of Philbin not wanting a #1 and Ireland doing what Philbin wants goes out the window when the owner says stuff like this. I for one, am glad thats what Ross wants, because I want it to and we need it.

What report? The one from an unnamed source that leaked a closed door meeting with no media present?
I'm shocked the Sun-Sentinel, home of Omar Kelly would report this. Shocked I tell ya.

Steve Ross is consistent. He believes that when you've got a young quarterback trying to be the franchise guy, you need to surround him with weapons. He believed that in 2009 just before the Dolphins traded for Brandon Marshall, and he believes it today.

I don't see the problem here. This is the only beef i've had with Philbin if its true he doesn't want a #1 WR. The fact is his boss and his boss' boss wants a #1 WR and a lot of fans want it to.

Absolutely nothing. However, it is an issue if Ross comes out and says 'Hartline and Bess are not number #1 wide outs. We need someone better!'

I think primarily, Ross should shut the **** up and go back into the cave he's been hiding most of this off-season and season.

Next off-season will be a pretty ripe time to add another wide receiver, but it's got to be in the right context. Re-signing Brian Hartline should be a priority. Signing a big money free agents should not be. I could see them maybe being interested in Greg Jennings, but Philbin has been pretty clear about his desire to build primarily through the draft, and this off-season they pretty clearly went in that direction.

I think odds are very good that Ireland(Sorry ya'll he ain't getting fired) is going to go for a wide receiver pretty high in the draft. It's possible he'll double down and get two, maybe kind of early, but I think it's also possible that you're looking at Jabar Gaffney sticking around in a fairly prominent role, or an additional "developmental" guy getting signed along the lines of a Ramses Barden or Brandon Gibson if they don't explode into sure-fire starters.

I'm not sure whether this helps or hurts the argument that Miami needs to bring in a "no.1" receiver.

nothing............privately. If it contradicts his gm or coach, then I think he should discuss it only with them and any others that need to be involved. Otherwise, keep it to himself.

It sounds a lot worse than it is when said in that order. He is saying we need someone better ...which is obvious... He never mentioned bess or hartline not capable of being a #1 just that we still need one.

I'd like to go ahead and draft a young gun. For the last five years, what outside big name free agents have worked out for us? I do think that it's a coincidence due to a lack of player and character evaluations, but still, I'd rather continue the trend of building through the draft. Besides, very few quarterback and wide receiver free agents tend to work out.

Being a PAC-12 guy, I've had the pleasure of seeing Robert Woods and Keenan Allen torch the competition. These guys are for real. It's a shame that Marqise Lee isn't eligible yet, though, because he looks the part of a top 5 talent.

Anyway, no more trades for me. Let's stay young and let's keep building. We're on to something, and I think Ross knows it. Good for him.

I don't agree with any of this. I would be shocked if Gaffney had a prominent role ever again in the NFL and giving Ross' desire to win now I think its more likely that they trade for a veteran receiver or sign a free agent, I don't think Ross cares about what Philbin thinks about free agency. If he wants a go to receiver they'll get him one.

Why are some people acting like the off season means free agency? the draft is the off season to. I for one don't care if we get a #1 WR through free agency or the draft. That doesn't mean we need to go crazy in free agency. It just means if a #1 WR is available through free agency, you get him and make the draft even better!

That doesn't matter. Daniel Thomas has sucked ***, but Ross should not come out and say 'Thomas sucks, he needs to be replaced'

in all fairness, over the last 5 years any big name free agents have had the privelage of being signed into a total mess... Idc if we get a big name or a rookie stud wideout, go with the flow. We got the coaches, the schemes, and the QB all working well for us right now. I'm almost suprised to say I'm sure they will have a good pick up regardless

Why should he STFU? Because you said so? Because investing 1 billion dollars in to the team means he needs to shut up so people like you can pretend that owners have no say in the direction of the team?

Ross has made it clear that he wanted a franchise QB, and right now we are on the cusp of finding one. Ross made it clear he wanted to upgrade our coaching staff and made every effort to land Harbaugh, and landed Philbin, who looks like a much better choice than any made under the previous ownership group.

Keep talking Ross, all this hatred towards you may actually be moot once this team builds it's first true title contender in nearly 25 years.

Again, there is no proof Ross said anything. Unless you were sitting in that room and heard it, this article has no merit. It is unnamed source detailing something that happened weeks ago.

This is ridiculous, coming from a serious conspiracy theorist myself....Ross said what EVERYONE else knows, that we need to acquire a bonafide #1 wr to help this team. Hartline and Bess are good receivers but not the answer by themselves for this team. It was hoped that CJ85 might be the answer...that didn't work out. It was hoped that Armstrong might be the answer, but he's apparently still injured or is really, really slow picking up the offense. It was hoped that Gaffney might be a stopgap measure that would work and that hasn't happened. It was hoped that one of the younger guys would step up and that hasn't worked out...so for Ross to say we need to acquire a WR in the offseason is pretty much nothing more than common sense that every fan, every coach (if he were really asked) and every analyst pretty much already can see....

So what is the big deal ?? Is that meddling ?? I don't think so (and I'm one who's been actively asking that Ross back out of the equation...)

From what we know it doesn't contradict what the GM wants as he has been seen by millions of people watching Hard Knocks that we have 3's, 4's and 5's but no 1's, 2's and 3's when talking about WR's. Its been said that Philbin doesn't want or need Apa #1 WR, but last time I checked, a boss and a boss' boss usually get what they want when opposed to a 3rd employee down the line.
Back to Ireland's Hard Knocks comment I think we would agree and if Ireland was asked about it again I believe he would agree that we do have a good #2 and #3 WR but we are still missing a #1.

If Ross is making decisions we're pretty much utterly and completely ****ed and we should probably just bulldoze the stadium under and salt the ground.

He's pretty clearly not making decisions though.

Because the number of times he's opened his mouth and not embarrassed the fan-base can be counted on most of one hand.

    This isn't actually true.

The quality of a wide receiver isn't dictated by how much of a fantasy football boner they give you.

Well yeah, like I said, player and character evaluations were not performed.

Bringing in guys like Marshall and Ochocinco was adding frontline acts to a circus.

Ross is starstruck. He's had a history of adding guys by their celebrity status, when they should really be under psychiatric care.

The fact that he's added guys like Tannehill and Philbin to this team has me thinking he's changing, though.

Do you really think Ross would specifically name WR's that he believes need to be upgraded, or is it possible that Mike Berardino is putting his stamp on a comment to improve our WR situatuion, that nearly everyone agrees on? Embellishment on the part of the writer.

Yet this team is in position to make a serious title run within 2 years. When was the last time we actually a smidget of hope that we could move past the 2nd week of the postseason?

Just because he doesn't excel at public speaking or may look out of place doesn't take away from the fact that A) We finally have a franchise QB and Coach, and B) He didn't cave to firing Ireland and was willing to go through humiliation to rebuild this team the right way for once.

We have a stockpile of draft picks for once and a roster that is developing the right way. Who the f*** cares about some BS fan humiliation? If we win the stadium will fill up and the rest of the league will respect Ross and Ireland. We are headed up, not to the apocalypse that everyone was predicting this year.
