How is it over reacting after a win? That makes no sense. So no one should be held accountable because we got the W? Umm...no. thats an awful way to think.
well, charles clay made a mistake not staying inbounds....agreed..we won the game, so who gives a damn, the coaching staff will probably tell him something about it.....done
We give a damn because it was such a stupid mistake by a second year player who, quite honestly, was expected to be a much bigger contributor than he has been thus far this season. Giving your opponent at least 30 more seconds left at the end of the game is a big deal in my opinion.
Yea. That thinking is awful. Just because you win a game doesn't mask the big mistakes. Thankfully this coaching staff doesn't think that way.
Charles Clay isn't even close to being cut. In fact his role is expanding. They are showing sort of a double-down tendency with challenged players that you might believe are on their way out. They intensify their workload and see if they respond positively or negatively. They tried to get Legedu more involved in the passing game than ever during that game where he fumbled. After the fumble that went out the window. They've even intensified Daniel Thomas' workload to see if he can get over his issues. Remember during Hard Knocks they seemed to do the same with John Jerry, just when he was at his lowest point they gave him more and more and more work to see if he'd battle through it.
looks like lamar miller could be the next guy to give a try...thomas could again be done with a concussion, its alarming that he is developing like austin collie in that regard
That's the thing with Daniel Thomas. He can't do anything fully right. He's either running well but fumbling, not fumbling but running poorly, screwing up a pass protection, or getting hurt. He had two great carries near the goal line yesterday. Really showed his physical superiority on those runs. But then he gets hurt again.
absolutely & it is a problem that can't be resolved in any way but coaching & playing time until the next draft & free-agency. patience is a virtue we can afford in 2012.
So we can't talk about how awful the play was because the coaching staff will handle it? Hmm...we can't discredit coaches or GMs because we don't know more then them since their employed by the NFL.. Now we can't get on players either...what do we have a message board for again? To cheer with other fans through text when we win?
You can't count on him to know what he's supposed to do on a given play. In a close game, he won't be seeing the field when that's the case IMO.
You can count on him to run the ball a lot better then DT. I get he isn't a good pass blocker. But hes to explosive and looked to good running the ball to be getting 0 touches. At least put him out there on 3 plays you know your running the ball. Get him carries.
At this point you can't even count on him not to create a broken play on a running play. Notice he did that in a close game against the Jets, and you've seen little of him since.
discrediting coaches...i'm not falling in that category of an armchair GM, well getting on players is ok, but the most important thing that always seems forgotten is that when a player from the dolphins is messing up there is a pretty good chance he did because he is playing against another player who also gets paid to play this game, the inability of giving opponents credit is alarming, we find reasons to make receivers on our team look bad because they can only get open if they do this and that...etc.etc.etc
he will get his time i'm sure, latest after the bye week when they have another 2 weeks to get him more ready to play, he is running the ball fine just needs to get ready for the mental part imo, the running game needs a spark, reggie needs to take those 2-3 yard gains instead of trying to make something happen everytime, he also looks like he is still dinged, DT is hurt again so there is only bush, lane and miller left for now
I doubt they cut him as you say he does have potential. It was just my way of venting when the play happened.
Also, it's not like they're bursting at the seam with TE talent. Fasano's a free agent next year, Egnew has supposedly been rather clueless with the playbook and Mastrud is well, Mastrud. Under those conditions I'd certainly try like hell to get something out of him rather than cut him for a few mistakes.
I'd like to see Michael Egnew get out there and show what he's got but it seems they have a target date in mind for that...around mid-season. Same with Lamar Miller. Possibly same with Rishard Matthews. For all we know, as we go on with this coaching staff, you may see a pattern suggesting they don't allow rookies to play much on offense until halfway through the year. Jonathan Martin is the exception but he's been slated to be a starter at right tackle arguably since the day he was drafted. They may not even like that they have to play him this early but that may be the situation they find themselves in from a roster perspective, they have to put him in. In Green Bay, Bryan Bulaga didn't really start until Week 5. James Starks didn't start getting into games until like Week 13. Wasn't until around that time before you saw Dmitri Nance in the game more either. I remember that as a rookie Jermichael Finley hardly played at all...88 total snaps, most games in single digits. In the first half of the season Randall Cobb averaged 13 snaps a game, second half of the season he averaged 26 snaps a game.
We will see Egnew at some point but just not right now. Like the rest of you i'm pretty curious as to why he hasn't gotten on the field. He's certainly got all the physical tools to be a good player so I guess it's a matter of learning things for him.
Exactly, and the same thing applies with Vontae Davis.... But nobody faults him for dogging it and getting himself shipped outta town ! Anyways, Nothing wrong with starting a thread on it, Clay is clearly not playing to his potential right now and that critical error could have cost us the game. Fumbles and drops happen but things like this are avoidable.
Since I started this thread I feel compelled to respond. I find it interesting today that Sherman and Philbin talked about it. I am as happy and satisfied with this win as anyone. Remember that online communication gives false impressions. I write something about a situation that could have bee bad, but some of you see that as I am not satisfied. I am quite happy about the win. The words "*****ing" or "dissatisfied" simply don't apply. I watched the game at a local sports bar and I left grinning from ear to ear.
Haven't read this thread yet.. "Interesting that Philbin took the blame for Clay going out of bounds: "that falls back on me probably not preparing the play well enough" Ben volin.
He's saying the right things. But even Joe knows that Clay should have known not to go out of bounds there. Just a player being totally clueless about the situation at hand... not showing any game awareness whatsoever running out of bounds.
I mentioned his name twice in all my camp reports, no positive comments...no superlatives about Egnew either...sucks.. It's really the most accurate way to project your talents seasons in terms of performance, go to camp..
