I may have exaggerated by saying 99% didn't know who he was. There were a few, but not that many. Here are some quotes from that draft thread:

    Coke Zero pls.

That's par for the course. If fans don't know who the guy is, he's automatically a bad pick in their eyes.

I refuse to buy anyone a Coke Zero. What are you, on a diet?

Very possible. My memory could be off here, but I thought I recalled the draft chat a lot of people not knowing who he was though.

I think the point is no one liked the Hartline pick.

As well they should. So many facking negatrons about our receiving corps this year. Granted, some liabilities, but Tanny loves tossin to this guy. Lock him up. I've always liked Hartline, solid guy and a hard worker.

For all the BIG NAME RECEIVER lovers out there...all I have to say is...Brandon WHO?

EDIT: don't let the ****ing patsies pilfer him like they did Welker. that would piss me off.

I dunno. Could be Brandon Marshall who has, through 4 games, 23 receptions - 352 yards- 15.3 YPC - 2 TDs & 16 first downs. I'd gladly take that production on our team, personally.

I do remember Peter King of SI raving about it a week after the draft. He was about the only one though. King also really liked the Davone Bess signing the year before.

It's amazing what consistently good quarterback play can do for players and a team.

That doesn't necessarily suggest that nobody knew who he was, just that a lot of people disapproved, which are two different things.

You'd think they would have done this before he had more leverage. ITs not like they can afford to lose a WR, when they still need to add in the offseason

    Especially if Tannehill likes him.

Except he isn't. They've been trying to extend him all season.

I don't know if that's necessarily true. We heard a note very early before OTAs that they were discussing an extension but then that went away very quickly when he was going through his appendix ills and later calf strain.

Players get emotional about this stuff sometimes too. If he saw that the Dolphins were sticking by his side through his injury and illness stuff and wanted to keep negotiating anyway then a cheap deal very well could have gotten done. But since they didn't, and now they're only approaching him about it after a 250 yard game...I don't know if he'll go easy on them in negotiations.

Also they did only start up negotiations with Reggie after his breakout game against the Raiders. That's just a fact.

Good move to sign Hartline, I don't think he's done enough consistently to justify a huge 1 WR contract but a good solid 4-6 year deal worth good money isn't a bad idea, he's shown a lot this year and he's developing into a goto guy for our young franchise Qb.

We need to keep Jake Long, he's not going to command 12 mill a year from anyone and if someone wants to pay him that they can trade for him after we franchise him. I think signing Long to a deal worth 10 mill a year is fair for both sides and we haven't heard what he wants so assuming he's just going to be a greedy mercenary is a bit too much. Opening up another hole on an already suspect oline is just stupid and sets us back. I don't want to see a couple of rooks on the line next year, Tannehill's progress will be hurt by a bad oline, its worth it just to keep him progressing to sign Long longterm.

I think something along the lines of what Antonio Brown received would be a good point of reference for Hartline.

so that we're clear on what Brown signed:

yeah... i'd probably do that for Hartline although we don't know how much of the above was guaranteed. Probably in the $16m to 20m range? Steelers got a favorable deal there in those first couple of years.

    IIRC, Brown got ~$25M guaranteed.

I would think a bit less. I'd hope for no more than $6m/yr on average personally.

Jesus one game and suddenly Brian Hartline is going to get what Antonio Brown got?

I wouldn't give him more than $5 million per year.

Why not? Antonio Brown had 1500 career yds and 2 career TDs when he got that contract. Seem pretty comparable to me. I think when it comes down to it, Brown isn't going to be making more than $5M per yr.

I think a 4 year deal averaging 4-5 million is more accurate than the Antonio Brown contract.

I have a friend who is a client of Rosenhaus. We're close enough, and I was actually discussing Hartline with him and he told me that Miami was "lowballing" Hartline. This was before the season started. That, to me, says they were approaching him about an extension.
