I have a question for the folks out there.. What is the ratio of picks that Ireland has made to the number of picks on the Dolphins producing?? Everyone that is a Ireland lover says he is a great talent evaluator and I think he probably is decent with #1 picks, but his latter picks don't seem to be so good, but I don't have the numbers.. CAL
One thing that apparently no one seems to appreciate is that Ireland has not been a guy like Wanny and Spielman to just hold on to a guy if they weren't producing. He'll cut his losses with draft picks and FAs. That's hasn't always been the case.
He usually gives anyone from the 5th or earlier, a one year sort of redshirt season though. I think a 6th is the highest he's cut after their first training camp.
Rather than asking anyone here to do the work for you, just figure it yourself. Just go back through all of Miami's picks since Ireland has been the GM, and compare with which ones have made or are making a significant contribution relative to their draft status.
Welcome to the site...what about making a list from the past two years of all free agents signed, all draft picks, and all undrafted free agents..Post it, then we can take a look at what his hits and misses are more accurately.
Twin brothers separated at birth? Given up for adoption and only now finding each other through a strange common draw to the Dolphins because your Dad is Don Shula?
Well, Pat White was sent packing during his second year, or am I remembering that incorrectly? That doesn't contradict your statement, but it shows a willingness to admit a mistake and move on.
Thanks for the link. So basically we have 12 picks still on the team out of about 34 total picks. Not even 50%.. Is that an average of how GM's perform? CAL
Thanks for info. Someone posted the link to the draft picks and I figured out my answer. I didn't have the link CAL
He was waived Sept 4, 2010, so at the end of his 2nd training camp. Such a shame things worked out like they did. Had he converted to WR he may have had a career but word was he didn't want to. He sure was one of my all time favorite college players to watch though.
