Omar seems to me that he's generally more concerned about being right, than the team doing the right thing. This is another reason if you're picking one beat writer to follow on twitter, choose Volin.
I am wondering if Ireland is a big gambler on finding talent, or he may imply not know how to evaluate talent at certain positions, like say, tight end and wide receiver (not including Hartline and Clay). Tonight I saw a small indication of some disagreement on Gates with he and Philbin. If I had to guess, I am beginning to think Philbin will at some point lobby for his own man. But he might have to win some first. ps. If I am Ireland I am not so sure I come out smelling like a rose in this Hard Knocks. Same could be said for some of the other Dolphin staff as well. I think five episodes was enough.
We don't know why Scott hasn't signed with us or anyone. It could be any number of reasons, doesn't have to be a money issue.
Maybe eventually. A guy like Scott, who's only played RG for his NFL career isn't the sort of non-versatile guy ya usually want as an OL reserve. If you dress him as your 6th or 7th OL, and he comes into the game due to injury, unless it is the RG, the starting RG may have to move to accommodate him. He'd probably be ok at LG too, like if Richie got hurt, but you wouldn't sub Scott in at either OT, so Jerry would have to slide outside if he was the starting RG. Or else you bring Yeatman or Garner into the game to go directly to tackle.
Other than money or health, what other reason could it be? If it was health, why would Miami be contacting him again now? For all the teams to be avoiding him like the plague, IMO, he either wants more than anyone thinks he's worth, or he has some sort of chronic, but perhaps not serious, ailment that has teams concerned.
Omar is good at his job... he gets people like you to constantly ***** about him thus giving him more clicks online thus generating his paper more money. It cracks me up how people think that if they just ***** about him, he'll go away. You want him to go away? Stop reading him. Stop following him. It's simple. Sorry if it sounds like I am picking on you, Lee... just generalizing the entire forum with your post.
This is smart, Jeff. With roster holes, they will need a GM. You are a GM Jeff. They need you to GM them some new people to fill those holes. Thou arte the manne.
Oh, I think you should go the exact opposite way. Get a pre-season game-worn one. Buy a $500 ticket to a Dolphins charity function to get close to Ray. Offer him $10,000 to sign it for you. Then wear it and brag to all your friends.
One can only hope. I still think the Packers can win without Jennings and the Dolphins can give him a real nice retirement plan he wouldn't get in Green Bay.
I honestly believe Omar is cracking and by this time next year he will not be doing this job, not in Miami if anywhere.
It is what it is. He's clearly not happy, IMO. If change of venue or even vocation would make him happier, that might be what's best. He's got like zero patience nowadays.
He put all his eggs in the Garrard basket, and realizing he is going to be covering crap again is wearing on him. Plus he loses part of his support system every time a partner quits...
I realize you may not want to elaborate, but I would be interested in knowing how you came to this assessment. Not so much because it is Omar, but more on what you have observed that would tell you a beat writer is losing it.
At this rate I am starting to believe that when Feinga walks into Ireland's office, Feinga tells Ireland where to sit!
