That's fair. For the record, I judge Ireland based on everything, from 2008-2011. I could see why you're down on this year but we'll see how things go.
They also had Gonzalez at TE and Turner at RB, not to mention them not having Henning at OC. That they have been better than Miami is not a matter of debate. The question is whether or not Ryan was the reason. I don't agree that Ryan was the reason. IMO Ryan was only marginally more talented than Henne, but benefitted from a far better situation.
Dont leave out that awesome 6-10 record from last year, the overwhelming amount of playmakers we have on offense, the spectacular work he did finding secondary pass rushers and trading away the only CB we had worth a poop. Awesome. here we come Super Bowl!!!!
I like his signature. That quote is spot on. Kinda surprised none of the thumpers have complained though. Maybe it is over their head.
He's basing it on 4 seasons worth of games that we have played. You might have forgot those. After all, those seasons were pretty forgetful thanks to Jeff Ireland being completely inept at his job.
lol. Nothing you said is true actually. - How many playmakers do we need on offense for you to be happy...especially in 2 offseasons? 3? 11? - Secondary pass rushers are now the definition of a good team? Since when? They are a luxury. - Vontae is not and has not been significantly better than SS.
What was Thompson's first 5 years W-L record? It will be interesting to see how close Ireland comes to that, since they are equal at the 4 year mark.
Ignore my posts...especially since you don't read them. It will save me the time from rolling my eyes.
I wasnt even basing it on that. I gave Ireland a pass for the first 3. I based it on last years results which were on his watch, what I have seen and read and heard so far this offseason/preseason, and the roster construction which looks like doo doo.
Good to know. I may be wrong but I would think Atlanta could really get some assets to move them past the malaise they have been in by trading Ryan. Just float a 5th to Jax and get Henne or another comparable QB and then with the substantial difference makers they get in a trade they should be a strong contender.
In other words, they turned themselves around quicker than we have—as I said and you did not disagree with—through superior competency in the front office. The Dolphins had the same opportunities to acquire Michael Turner and Tony Gonzalez that the Falcons did. So why is that disparity somehow a handicap in favor of the Dolphins in this discussion? By the way, Mike Mularkey is not exactly top shelf coaching material. The situation got better because Dimitroff made it better. Even if you think Ryan isn't any better than Henne, the fact remains that the Falcons are a better team through their own actions in the same span of time that Ireland has been running the Dolphins. In fact, to accept your Ryan = Henne premise, the Falcons have improved their team so dramatically from their 2007 hellhole squad that they can actually do something few other teams in the NFL can do—make up for shortcomings at QB. This is actually an incredible accomplishment, if you are correct about Ryan. But hey, Jeff Ireland needs more time.
You forgot how stellar we looked during the preseason. It's OK. I'm sure Jeff will find another "acorn" and salvage the season.
I think I just had a small stroke reading this. Are you Jeff's brother or Jeff himself? Or Jeff's alter ego? For playmakers, why dont we get past 1. We have Reggie Bush. Thats it. Thats the only playmaker we have. For Secondary pass rushers we have none at DE and excuse me if Randy Starks doesnt evoke images of Justin Tuck at DT. Double team Cam and then what? Did you watch the Giants last two Super Bowl runs? DL and QB play were their two constants. You want to run a 4-3 where you cant disguise as much then you better have secondary pass rushers. But you will realize that after the upcoming 4-12 season at which point you will be thrilled because El Jeffe will have lead you to the promised land. Sean Smith is a flake. Vontae routinely covered the best WR for the opposition. And while he was inconsistent, he was much more adept in defending the run and much closer to reaching his potential. Everything I said was true.
42-39. We would have to win 11 games to reach that mark. I would bet that we don't reach that mark but who knows.
Serious here, no such thing as a small stroke. My dad had a stroke, and while he didn't lose ability in any limbs or anything he wasn't the same after. Get to a doctor ASAP.
Then you cannot be truthfully judging him on two off seasons. And how do you define playmaker? Because if he hits on some we'll be potentially looking at Tanny, Miller, Egnew, Armstrong, Matthews being candidates to be playmakers. Say 2 hit, then plus Bush that's 3 playmakers in 2 offseasons. That would make him king. You are still acting as if a second pass rusher is the difference between firing a GM or not. Vontae was a flake, hence being benched for poor effort since college.
Ok , we will win 11 games ... Come on , cheer for Ireland all you and all his proponents want , but let's be realistic.
Wow, you suck. Did you not read the post where I said I would bet against us winning 11 games? Can you tell the future? Unless you can, you actually do NOT know what will happen. What the hell does that have to do with your obsession of claiming people are in love with Ireland?
Honestly bro, Im just going hug it out with you and let the argument die here. Because I cant agree with anyone who supports Jeff Ireland at this point and its a touchy subject for me because I love my team. Vontae is a flake. Hes a talented flake though. I fully expect he becomes a top 5 CB in the entire league. Time will tell. I would have kept him though.
I do have a flux capacitor, but the US Govt has paid me a rather sizable sum of money to stop using it from now on.
They're up in the water tank, waiting for me to join them. Having a few stiff shots of bourbon with Uncle Joe first though.
Relax, its an emotional subject. You both care about the team and I know Im not the only one frustrated by the perceived/actual lack of progress. Goodnight.
I believe there is a 50% chance you are right, and a 50% chance that it really is a 50% chance in the first place.
Kind of turned ya on huh? Just a small stroke, but that's ok, the ladies all say it's how ya use it not how long it is. yuk yuk yuk. Yeah we know they're really telling the truth on that one. The ladies around here all call me the old long stroker...so I guess we are quite a lot different...if ya need any help with them big city girls, just let me know. I may be able to fit a quick trip to Gotham into my schedule.
