Titans' Young Almost Quit

Wow, I never would have thought that. I guess I can understand it though, the pressure put on some of these guys at such a young age can easily be quite unbearable at times.

 

I think he probably should have kept this information to himself. No good can come of the fans knowing this.

 

Not very media savvy to say the least. I think Young's problem is that he's not that smart.

 

At least he's honest. The pressure on these guys at a young age is ridiculous. Especially if youre a QB. Every little move you make is scrutinized, by everyone on the coaching staff, your teammates, the fans in the building, the media, the fans watching at home all over the world. Im sure theres tons of other things that add to that pressure. I can easily see how it could take the fun out of a game that youve played since childhood. Im not really sure what that has to do with an individual's intelligence...

 

I always thought he should've been a WR. Maybe that'll give him less pressure.

 

Has a lot to do with how smart he is. If he can't see how saying--as the leader of a football team, that you can't handle the stress of the job and want to quit is stupid, then you're probably going to have trouble learning offenses, etc. Its been whispered around that he needs a dumbed down gameplan/offense for a long time as well.

 

50 pages on a Titans message board minimum. Will come up periodically for the rest of his career if he's anything short of a HOF player. Will probably garner a huge overreaction but its his own damn fault for allowing something like that to get printed.

I don't even want to imagine what the Jets boards would be like if something like this came out of Clemens/Penningtons mouth.

 

Vince Young is an over-rated piece of garbage who his hyped up for the teenage fans by ESPN. Real Football fans who don't buy into the hype know that he has had very little to do with the Titans' successes over the past two seasons. Too bad he didn't leave, the team would be better for it.

 

I disagree. He may not be the greatest pocket passer but he can make plays. They had a lot of success once he came in as a rookie. You could make a case that he wasn't all that great last year but he didn't exactly have the best weapons.

I agree with everything but the honesty and intelligence. Honesty is said to be good and it is, just not always. I agree with MonstBlitz that he should have just kept it to himself. He knows that he will be bombarded with criticism every time he comes up short in a big game. There have been many questions regarding his intelligence of the game, from when he entered this league and had a horrific wonderlic score to game plans like finfansince72 mentioned. I guarantee this will raise question of his desire and heart to play this game once he loses a big game.

Order of importance for the Titans' success -- 1 through 4 can be re-arranged.

Vince Young is Michael Vick with a few extra lb's. QB's like those will never amount to anything in the NFL except for the people who like action, not Championships.

 

That order may be right but I don't believe that he has had a minimal impact on the teams latest success. I noticed you stated that the team would have been better off without him. How? They had money invested in him and are building a team around him. Their backup is still Kerry Collins I believe. Do you think Kerry would have done a better job than Vince?

 

Dude, Brodie Croyle, Kellen Clemens, Chad Pennington, John Beck, hell alen1 and 124 could lead the Titans to the playoffs last year and 6 points in their lone playoff game. C'mon

They could've kept Billy Volek. I don't know about Collins, but I do believe Billy Volek leads them to more than 6 points against San Diego last year, and no this isn't because he had a nice 4th quarter against Indy in the AFC Divisional Round. Tennessee never gave him a legitimate chance to be a starter there, but when he did play he played well and it confused me why he never got his shot.

Oh well, their loss and San Diego's gain if god forbid Philip Rivers is ever out for an extended period of time.

I still disagree with you on the Young topic because I do think he was an integral part of their success. However, I do agree with you on the past Volek situation. I thought he was bound to be their starter but for some reason, they did not. He is one of only a few players in the history of the league to have consecutive 400 yard passing games I believe. He impressed me everytime.

 

It was weird that Volek put up Madden esque numbers for a few games then basically got the boot. You'd figure a guy throwing for that kind of yardage would intrigue a team a little. Honestly he is probably better than a few starters out there.

 

I agree. When I saw them get rid of him, all I said was "why?" The guy showed you he could play, maybe not over the course of a full season but he showed you he can do something.

 

Reminds me of Sage Rosenfels as well. Not that I think he's that great but he's proven he can start and win with a good team, honestly I think he's better than a few starters as well.
