Your lack of human empathy is interesting.

I think it's perfectly in line with what he know about Vontae. The guy's a child at heart; and like every child, his first reaction when dealt an unexpected blow is to call for mom ... only in this case, mom is actually grandma. I'd wager the bet that most people who laugh about that would feel a pretty strong urge to call their moms in a situation like this; they'd prolly be too mature to actually do it in front of the boss, though.

I swear some people will argue just to argue.

It was completely obvious that the guy was shell-shocked by the news and wanted the comfort, direction, and guidance of his grandmother, the closest person in his life.

Maybe I wait until I leave the room. But I'll tell you right now that I'm calling my parents the second I walk out the door. And I feel I'm a stable, responsible, and mature individual.

Some people are genuinely unable to read human expressions. It's a sign of a mild form of autism, for instance. I'm certainly not saying that anyone here is autistic, though.

Dude, show that picture to 100 people and 98 will agree that the guy looks positively shell-shocked. I'm curious, how do you read his expression?

No offense meant to anyone, but yeah I'm kind of getting that feeling, which is why I wrote "/conversation over". I tend to end these kinds of arguments when I feel like we've just crossed a line from genuine to disingenuous.

I disagree with you and have presented actual arguments. You've per usual resorted to attitude and insults. The reason is you can't possibly understand anyone that doesn't take your word as gospel.

I get the whole concept of playing Devil's Advocate.

But you're taking that concept in this situation to a whole different level.

LOL. Yes, that's clearly the issue. The issue isn't at all that you have an opinion that is so far off consensus that others are "at a loss for words" and therefore I become convinced you're arguing for argument's sake. No it's clearly that I can't handle being disagreed with, lol.

But you could still see he was shocked.

    Whatever.

Look at the pics. Eyes wide, mouth open. The only difference between them and the one from the trade is you all have projected what Vontae was feeling. Its not a coincidence that people that are trying to shove this projected reality down our throats are many of the same people who were against this trade. (Most of them are against Ireland too. Hmmm)

Again, many of you are basically saying Vontae had no idea this was coming which we know is false regardless of CK's spin. (Guaranteed if the situation called for it, he point out he was the first to bring the rumors to our attention). That leads many of you to believe Ireland just destroyed Davis. I'm not being crazy or irrational here.

If you are seriously convinced that these expressions read the same (and not just playing devil's advocate), then yes, I am at a loss for words because trying to tell you how they radically differ would be like explaining the color red to a colorblind person. They read nothing at all alike.

    That is clearly the issue.

When people are broadsided they generally involuntarily change expressions based on the drastic change in emotion, hence why its called broadsided. That's not bull**** or arguing for the sake of arguing. Yet you treat it as such.

No, the first response he had was:

    "..."

    And the second response was:

"I need to call my grandma"

    And the third response was:

    "..."

    And the fourth:

    "..."

And finally the tenth response, as he was leaving the room, was:

    "What'd you trade me for?"

When he asked who he was traded for, then Ireland gives that awkward, embarrassing pause..."A couple of picks." YIKES.

Yes they do. You're viewing them with the preconceived notion that one shows distraught and the others don't.

This is what broadsided looks like:

agreed As someone who has been laid off and someone who has had to lay people off, I can tell you first hand that even if the rumors are strong, and you have a good feeling that they are coming, you still feel blindsided when someone sits you down and you are officially told you are unemployed (or in this case no longer employed by your current team). Vontae might be weird and immature, but he still has a level of pride that is shocked when slapped in the face of being traded, it's human nature.

Yeah, he may be odd and he may be quirky, but I think he is a good hearted kid, and to focus on his odd personality is deflecting from what matters most. He is a very good cover corner with the natural tools to be great. That makes his quirkiness worth overlooking to me.

it's pretty obvious he was in shock. Kind of hard to know how to respond when you are not used to a certain situation. That has nothing to do with class.

What caught my attention most is that Philbin pretty much said that Vontae had shown maturity. This leads me to believe that his demotion was based more on his play, not as some kind of wakeup call.

What if you worked somewhere that every year a large portion of the employees were fired or transferred.

Also, what of you were not fired, but transferred.

Also, what if your bosses had been telling you you had to shape up for weeks.

What if a national TV show showed you on the job and your bosses being concerned about how you were approaching it.

What if there was almost a week of talk around the office that you were goin to be transferred, in an industry where that's common.

Would it be a vicious left hook?

If so, I'd think you didn't have enough commonsense awareness to be working in that industry.

Then I would take the phone from you and hire Grandma, who is clearly the brains of the operation.

If he didn't listen to the rumors, or wasn't informed of the rumors by coaches, Ireland, players, friends, or his agent, then why did Jeff Ireland allude to it by opening the conversation with, "the rumors are true"? He definitely knew about them. There is still no doubt in my mind he was shaken from the conversation though. However, this didn't just hit him like a bag of bricks.

    Oh geez....

Fact is he got bad news and the first thought wasn't to talk about it right then and there with your boss, errrr....former boss, but to instead call your gam-gam. Sorry, but that statement was 100% true. There is nothing to indicate otherwise. He had a blank stare, otherwise known as a deer in the headlights look. When he asked to call his gam-gam and Ireland told him to hold on...it looked like he was about to cry right then and there. You could see the water and fear in his deer in the headlights blank stare.

Fine disagree with it. But it wasn't such a ridiculous point that it deserved a response of "/conversation".

I think the lack of affect shows psychological issues not surprise.
