Then you must be losing faith in the current coaching staff very quickly.

I would say when your team trades you, essentially saying you are not worth as much as a 2nd round pick to them, then yeah, it's an insult.

Agree, it definitely doesn't make him a bad person..... but if there's an intrinsic immaturity to Vontae that leads him wanting to make that comforting call to grandma in the middle of being traded, then that trait might affect how well he reaches his talent potential IMHO.

I hope SS has a great first half to the season and we extend him DURING the season. Would be a great message to send to the rest of the players.

Ireland didn't seem bothered by it. Just asked him to wait a few minutes. I don't know why a fan should be.

If I didn't think it was related to his physical play, I wouldn't be.

What's the point of this post? We all know he wont be here this year, with these coaches, in this system or in their long term plans.

Anyone want to make a wager as to whether Davis or Smith has a higher overall PFF rating for the 2012 season? With the parameter that each play at least 500 snaps.

Ireland I thought was polite and understanding of him wanting to call his Grandma. It was really a hard thing to watch.

I don't see any puzzle, except in the minds of those who delight in over analyzing Davis and his being traded. I take people at face value. I do not see an intrinsically bad person.

I got the sense that it wasn't easy for Ireland to actually end Vontae's days in Miami, to the verge of seeming emotional for him. IMO he seemed to truly care about Vontae as if he were family the way he kept trying to reassure him before leaving the office that he still had it in him to be a great player etc.

Not necessarily. I do not know that Kevin Coyle or Lou Anarumo demanded he be traded.

I see him as man-child and I have for quite some time. I don't see him as bad person by any sense. It's a "it is what it is" situation for me. He isn't going to drastically change his personality overnight.

Why else would a seemingly immature by nature 24 year old want to call his grandmother when hearing such emotional news? He most likely needed to share his emotions and have grandma tell him everything would be ok. I'm not belittling him for it by any means; it is who he is.

I just didn't agree that his wanting to call grandma indicated any personality flaw that would prevent him from reaching his max potential.

It could very well prove to not be an indication.... but if Vontae wanted to call her due to some innate immaturity factor, then that immaturity factor IMO could prevent him from reaching his max potential.... or at least make it more difficult to do so.

Exactly my reaction. As soon as he said you've been traded, that's about it with professionalism.

Remember the guy sitting on the other side of the desk once asked someone if their mother was a hooker.

I'll be rooting for Vontae to have a good career. I found his reaction a bit immature but not in a bad sense, it was sincere. He just got traded to Indianapolis. A completely different state and region.

this isnt all about the awkward grandma moment. its also about his ups and downs and inconsistency as a football player. his behavior plays a role as a player to some extent. but the fact that philbin was on board and didnt really have anything good to say about him means he was expendable. if thats what the coach thinks, its good enough for me. all we have is a tv show to watch to gain some insight. Philbin has had many more days before the cameras came around to form an opinion of him.
theres no doubt that vontae had talent but let me put it this way...i have had many talented ex-girlfriends, but their behavior wasnt worth their talent. thats why they're ex-girlfriends.

IMHO I'd say he caught and surpassed him, but I wouldn't say left him in the dust...... although with Sean's ridiculous size, talent, and head screwed on, I think he could leave Vontae well behind if Vontae's progress is slight. What I will say though is I don't see anything that would leave ruling out Sean becoming the next Nnamdi.

But yeah, I'm with you regarding the newfound enthusiasm toward him.

    why? please explain?

    Ireland asked: Vontae you ok?
Vontae replied: Nah, I need to call my grandma.

If you'd like to offer a more accurate interpretation, I'm all ears. Don't appreciate you calling it ridiculous b/c that's far from the case.

I'm with ck. I felt bad for Vontae. Like, really bad. He looked hurt and confused when Ireland broke the news.

His first reaction at that point was to call the most important person in his life. I don't have an issue with that at all. It was an initial reaction to life-changing news.

He has issues, but give the kid a damn break. Seriously.

    1. Yes I watched it. So let's decide which one is better based on one preseason game. Good idea.
    2. To say Vontae has a 10 word vocabulary is complete nonsense, that is not worth commenting on.

No. I've liked him since we drafted him (even moreso than SS until this year) but have also been slightly disappointed in him, think he's a good player, and completely understand the trade.

I had the same reaction. When he immediately said he had to call his Grandma I was shocked. I thought to myself he didn't really just say that? He looked like he was in a hurry to be somewhere else. He seemed disconnected, not totally there.

It was hyperbole and a poor analogy to me. Comparing his 3 years of being our best corner to being akin to someone who could speak no more than ten words? Please.

One thing though, IMO, you really gotta respect a guy who loves his grandmother so much that he'd want to call her in that situation.
