Yankees acquired OF Steve Pearce from the Astros for cash considerations. Pearce, a right-handed hitter, is batting .275/.345/.490 against left-handed pitchers this season. He'll serve as a pinch-hitter and backup outfielder for the Yankees over the final five weeks of the regular season.

This is like two tankers passing in the night....Alex Rodriguez, who has been sidelined since July 25 with his injury, was given the green light to take BP and ramp up his rehab after getting checked out doctors Monday night. Rodriguez should be able to start ramping up his rehab a bit over the next few weeks and will start to do so Tuesday when he takes batting practice. The original timetable for his return was listed at 4-6 weeks, albeit he is shooting for a return somewhere closer to the four-week mark. Just have to minimize other nicks and bruises, etc.
A-Rod has always been a fast healer, and is dedicated I will always say that about him....nooooooow he just needs to hit a few long balls in crunch time
There was a report out there that the Dodgers called the Yankees asking about both Teixeira and CC Sabathia. You would have to bet Cashman would love to unload Teixeira if he could, ditto for ARod.
hahah u got it first.... Sherman reported it, LA called and asked for Tex and CC, the Yanks would have thrown in A-Rod too why not....and Cashman said no....I am flabbergasted.... CC was the Gonzo (which I am fine with) and they could have unloaded Tex and A-Rod, EVEN if they paid A-Rods contract it is still worth it....

The Yankees, correctly, told the Dodgers they had no interest in moving either player despite their contracts (four years and $99MM remain on Sabathia’s deal; four years and $90MM remain on Teixeira’s deal). There are no signs the Dodgers were interested in Alex Rodriguez, Sherman writes. No reason to move CC, Tex's D and Bat are exactly what you want out of a corner guy, and AROD wasnt even part of any conversation. Silly nonsense.
That could have been negotiated Christ Crawford was on the operating table when the Dodgers made that deal, the Dodgers made themselves look like fools, believe me it could have been done..... Why simple BDH, enjoy this year, after this once you pay Cano 20+ it is over, these contracts are so burdensome it is over as far as flexability....this team right now is the best you are going to see it, every year from here on out will get worse and older because of the contracts and I dont care what the records are.... The reason this thing didnt go down and the Red Sox did is because what the teams are now...if roles were reversed and the Sox were in 1st and the Yanks were 5 games under, this deal gets done....sucks....

The plan is to focus on this season and see if they can secure #28. After this year, they will do what they have done since 1996, take a look at their roster, take a look at the market, and make smart decisions to adjust and adapt and maintain their singular place as the best run outfit top to bottom in MLB, and not panic. Yeah, your analysis of players and this FO will make it into Cashman's hands and he will be fortunate to have such valued input, especially not caring about records.
I wouldn't have traded Sabathia and probably wouldn't have traded either Teixeira or Arod in the middle of the season while the team was in 1st. But if I could unload Teixeira and/or Arod I absolutely would. Both players on the decline already, wrong side of 30 and set to make a lot of money in the coming years. Even though the Yankees seemingly have an unlimited payroll it's still nice to have position and financial flexibility.
I too am confident all options will be explored in the offseason. The strange idea - which is not based on any past facts - is the Yankees are limited in their position or financial flexibility is comical to many. Let the future play out like the past, monitor, adjust, adapt, and still remain relevant. Unlike other franchises, this hasnt been an issue with the organization in the Bronx. I think some project "their team" onto the Yanks when its not warranted. No white flags of panic, quitting or surrender, unlike Marlins and Saux. You either are the Big Dog or you are a pretender....its clear what 29 other Franchises aspire to be, its clear with #27 and onward to #28 who has always been.

Tex has said numerous times he wont waive his clause, he doesn't want to go anywhere, A-Rod would go to Miami that's about it.... In order to get A-Rod to not fulfill his contract, the fans, and the media are really going to make it hell for him that he does not want to be here and he will either retire or waive his clause.... As well, once he starts to hit the HR milestones (hopefully he wont) they pay him an additional 6M that COUNTS on the salary cap...effing Hank Steinbrenner...

Has nothing to do with teams quitting but when you see something that's not working whether it be in Boston, Florida or wherever why, if you're a decision maker, would you simply stand there and do nothing. When things weren't working for the Yankees they didn't just stand around (although they did have numerous failed attempts to make the team better but failed from 2004 to 2008), they fired their manager and signed a bunch of guys to big contracts and won a WS. It's not like every team or every franchise, even the mighty Yankees are always good or always winning championships. Sometimes things don't work out according to plan and you need to change things up. Nothing wrong with that. As for thinking the other 29 teams aspire to be the Yankees, please you sound like a YES commercial or something John Sterling or Michael Kay would say on air to try and get their contract renewed. I do think the Gonzalez/Beckett/Crawford trade was close to a 1 shot deal. I mean it is possible another GM would do something stupid like take Vernon Wells' contract off a teams hand but to take 3 bad contracts in 1 deal and give prospects is unheard of, I mean it's never happened in baseball history where a team took on all that money. I do think if the Yankees wanted to move Teixeira they would find a taker for him if they were to pay some of the remaining salary. I think Arod is almost unmovable due to his age, durability and contract though. And yes they could move CC if they wanted. That's the price you pay when you give players no trade clauses though. If they don't want to leave they have the right to stay. Blame the team not the players.
Marlins and Saux clearly quit on the season and surrendered before it was over. Nothing to debate there. Perhaps your franchise will regroup and return, but if its not for another 86+ I would not be shocked at all. And any fan of a franchise not thinking their franchise would aspire to position themselves each year, and run themselves like the Yanks are kidding themselves. Of course they would. That's why they are spoken about in such historical and lofty tones....you should avert your eyes, but we allow the lesser class to gaze upon us, its our humility, really.

The Sox are 12.5 games out of 1st place and 9 games out of a spot in wild card, having to jump over 6 other teams. The Marlins are 20(!!!) games out of 1st place and 13.5 games out of a wild card spot with 9 teams ahead of them. Do you really want to knock a team for trading some of it's players to try and make their team better in the future? I mean honestly here, do you really think either the Sox or Marlins had a REAL shot at making the playoffs? Let's be realistic here. I don't see how you or anyone can knock teams who aren't going to make the playoffs trade some players to try and make their next year's team or the future of their franchise better. Give me a break. You knocking either team is insane to me. What would you have liked them to do? Keep the same team year in and year out because shipping off players is "giving up"? I'd much rather have my name who has zero chance to make the playoffs give up on the season and trade players to make their team possibly better for the next year then sit and do nothing.
