I was thinking Johnny Knox. We should make a list of receivers that wouldn't surprise us if Ireland overpays for...

Knox, Berrian, Sidney Rice, Patrick Crayton...

Just watch as we trade Bush for a 2nd and 3rd and Long for a 2nd and an old useless receiver

Some of these posts are ridiculous. Whether you agree or disagree with his moves Ireland has never done anything half as bad as some are implying with these silly situations.

i thought that to when all that went down and ross called that fan. ireland seemed to change his tune, but then he let brandon marshall go and did nothing to replace him. seems like he is doing the same with vontae but now he is gonna create a problem to try and fix another problem. and he hasnt done that yet, but hopefully he can pull it off to get us a wr to help us win this year.

really? you have gone too far! someone like wallace would make bess even better. he would spread the defense out and bess would be a consistent great catcher. if we dont get another wr to spread the defense, bess will eventually get shut down. with mike wallace and no bess, wallace would get shut down. we need both of them.

Should've tied him to his chair like I said. Ireland seems to be operating under some kind of Hegelian dialectic (problem, reaction, solution).

i must have been in a coma when he expressed interest in miami. thats awesome. if we can make a trade for a wr this year and pick up bowe as a free agent we wont need to use any picks for a wr next year. then we can get a pass rusher or safety with our first pick.

you bring up hard knocks and ireland and fail to mention that ireland said on hard knocks that we have 4's,5's and 6's at the wr position but no 1's,2's, and 3's? on the contrary u say he likes our roster! he might like the roster except the wrs as implied by himself.

    He gave the roster a B , B+ didn't he?

If you inherited a roster you wouldn't have an issue valuing it low , if it is your work , that is another story ... tells me it is his roster ( pretty much ) and he over valued ( values ) it.

I think it's a very good idea even if they have to overpay a bit. Right now you have the future of the franchise throwing to the worst WR unit in the NFL. Giving him help right now would really help him, and IMO is necessary.

There's not a tremendous amount of reason to believe that other than just silly "HOW BAD IS JEFF IRELAND? HE IS THIS BAD:PEE-PEE POO-POO" style **** that's rampant anytime his name even comes up.

He's made big trades for wide receivers in the past when he perceived it to be a need, and he's clearly reacted in some to degree to it being an issue both now and this off-season.

There's absolutely going to make an effort to get a wide receiver, and the fact that he grabbed a second suggests that they're going to go for someone pretty big. This doesn't mean that they'll be successful(and NOT doing it may be the correct answer if the price or players are wrong), but they are clearly attempting to do something.

My expectations are at their lowest ever. Most of the bad teams last season are actually making an attempt to improve their teams this season. Instead of that approach, Ireland has opted to pay BMarshall, YBell and VDavis almost $9M in cap space this year to play for other teams. Good luck with that.

The only way I can explain this trade is that the front office has seen that we are going to win very few games this year no matter what we do, has written off this season, is counting on a very high position in next year's draft, is going to play the rookies to develop them and get them lots of reps in the new system, and is stockpiling picks for next season.

Very few of us would like this, but at least it would make sense.

We have 4 picks to get 2 good, young WRs. Two 2nds and Two 3rds. I'd like any combination of Bowe, Wallace, James Jones. If not, sit on the picks till the draft.

i am 100% certain he said that. google it. i just did and confirmed what i already knew. i cant copy and paste on my cell phone. i can only type websites and go to them or search and click on links. nepatriotsdraft.com has a link about episode 2 of hard knocks where they have that quote from ireland. i dont know why a patriots site has that, but thats where i found it on a yahoo search from my crappy phones home page.

He never said anything about not having 3s. Or 2s for that matter. That would of been a huge slap in the face for guys like Bess and Hartline.

Mike Wallace is by far and away my favorite option.

I've never been a big fan of speed for speeds sake wide receivers, but the few guys who really "work" like Mike Wallace and Desean Jackson are rare and very valuable in my opinion. You can have Mike Wallace as your #2, maybe even #3 receiver and still have him give you elite production. You can't do that with many players.

Actually I just re-watched that part in episode 2 of hard knocks and that's exactly what he says in the interview with Peter King. "we've got 4's, 5's, and 6's, what we need are 3's, 2's, and 1's." But while he is talking they are showing clips of guys like Hogan, Gates, Cunningham, Wallace, etc. Then he says they have to start to separate themselves. So my guess would be he's referring to the guys that aren't Bess and Hartline since they already have proven they can play on this team.

    #2

You are correct. He was referring to the raw WR's. He was commenting on the need for them to step up and be at least 1,2,3's. He was not including Bess/Hartline in that statement. Bess is a very good #3, adequate #2. Hartline is an adequate #2 with potential to grow (or did till his injury).

There are a lot of teams out there with bad receivers units, in need of talent. This feels like a Seller's market. Any trade would be at desperation price, IMO. Ireland is a guy that sticks to his guns on valuation, for good or ill. I don't think I see anything getting done. But, they're pretty desperate...so who knows.

Honestly, probably Bowe because he's a beast in the red zone, and would likely be a bit cheaper.

Would take either in a heartbeat though without thinking twice.

Yeah, Ireland even said himself he wasn't happy with the receiving situation. He knows he needs to get Tannehill some help. I think it's quite clear he's going to be trying hard to get someone here within the next few days.

I just hope it's someone to be really excited about.

Bowe is better in some ways. Wallace is faster, but for all around alpha receiver, Bowe is just as good. It's really splitting hairs to say otherwise IMO. Bowe has over 80 catches two times and over 70 two other times. Wallace has over 70 once. Though Bowe has been in the league two years longer.

I agree. Also, and it maybe trivial, but Bowe is a Miami native, so perhaps he'd happier about coming here and staying for a while.
