I don't like this at all. I sure hope this is a prelude to trading for a WR. That's the only way this makes any sense.

You're saying that because of all the games you never heard his name. Because he was covering his WR. You know, doing what dominant CBs do. Holding guys like Randy Moss to 0 catches. Never been dominant? Revisionist history.
Not seeing anything regarding a player let alone one of quality , that would be nice to actually a get productive player as opposed to a draft choice that would be better used by some other GM , imo.
What does one have to do with the other? How many games did Roethlisberger win in his rookie year? He's no Peyton Manning either.
BenVolinPBP #Dolphins play at the #Colts in Week 9 And we'll be out of the picture by then , at least whoever loses will help Miami's draft position.
this is the only way i would be happy about this. i had high hopes for vontae. he was clearly getting back in shape and playing better. i would have rather of seen him traded for a wr not a pick in hopes of getting a wr. this news just made our team worse and we still havent addressed the biggest problem we have.
why does everyone assume the colts will be a top 5 or even top 10 pick? This was an elite team 2 years ago, and while Luck is no Manning (...yet) they still have many of the same pieces. I would not at all be surprised to see the Colts be a .500 team or better
Yeah, playmakers are so overated, who needs Int's? Could see it coming but my goodness, do not watch this season, it will be dreadful
The only way this will ever be a good move is if Ireland is fired and a competent GM gets to use the pick.
How many times have we heard rebuild? Ireland does not even seem to know how to BUILD much less RE Build...
Not better than Marshall? Try getting a 2nd rounder for Richard Marshall. Aren't you contradicting yourself?
The Dolphins have now traded their best WR for two third round drafts picks and their best DB for a second round pick. Vontae obviously didn't buy into what Philbin is selling and he was deemed expendable. If there is anyone out there who still thinks the Dolphins aren't in REBUILDING mode once again, no matter what Ross is saying about all the talent on the team. You just don't know how to face the reality of the situation. With the lack of talent now on the roster, this rebuilding process is going to take another three or four years, and that is only if the Dolphins hire a GM who actually knows what he is doing.

lmao at most of these replies. Every player who leaves Miami is suddenly a HOF I guess Decent value for VD but more importantly what do we do with this pick?
Best two players?????? Davis never lived up to his pick, and this year he was a joke. Marshall? Please, I remember his drops more than his catches.
Agreed. Sad but true. VD was certainly the most physical, and definitely more of a playmaker than SS ever was or ever will be.
Have you looked at their roster? I'm not saying they won't be good in a year or two but they will struggle this season against most teams (just not Jacksonville).
Seems to be that the Dolphins are getting rid of similar players. Both Marshall and Davis had questionable character and weren't exactly the obedient, hard working blue collar guys that Philbin seems to prefer. From what we've seen from Philbin, he's serious, meticulous and a disciplinarian. Guys like Marshall and Davis don't fit that. All the talent in the world, but not the right attitude for this team it seems. There is a reason Vontae was behind Marshall, and it wasn't physical ability. I think Dansby might be gone next year. Not this year as I don't think the fan base and Ross could take it, but I think he'll be gone in 2013. Who knows whether its bad or good, but I think if Philbin gets the guys that buy into how he runs things, this team will be better off than with a bunch of physically gifted guys that aren't on the same page.
Steelers were a far more talented team then the Colts in Ben R's rook season Cripes this yr will be dreadful, who in the hell is running this team?
I agree 100% with the critics, but realize these are all knee jerk reactions. The CB corp is not decimated. There is every possibility that he takes that 2nd and flips it for a guy like Mike Wallace or Cliff Avril before the season begins. What would we say then?
It may end up being a bad season for us, but we dumped a backup cb for a 2nd. VD is nothing more than average, so why not try to improve?
This has nothing to do with rebuilding. You don't trade a solid, 24 year old CB when you're rebuilding. Those are the guys you build AROUND. This is about Vontae not buying in and not making the most of his opportunities.
Happy to go somewhere he can go back to dragging his ***. He couldn't take it because he is lazy and just not very smart.
I'd be happy too if I got demoted from CB1 to CB3 in less than a year then be traded to a team that is awful at cornerback.
I was just using a blanket statement, as you frequently do. The Colts are an AWFUL team. That defense will be dreadful, I don't care how good Luck is, they are a 6 win team.
The one thing that scares me the most is that this is another 2nd round pick this FO can screw up, lol.
A. We used a #25 pick on Vontae hoping he'd become more than he is right now, so I'm not sure why you think he's still worth what we paid for him. Top 42 pick seems about right. B. Ireland wouldn't make this move w/o consulting the coaching staff for input. C. Some would say that real fans don't root for their team to lose. Just sayin. I'd rather see all these moves pay off and watch the team blossom than hope the moves fail just to have a reason to fire Ireland. D. What I think some fans need to understand is that we, as fans, get emotionally attached to our players and become upset when we lose them, where as the coaching staff & front office have to separate the emotional side from the business end of it.
"God" certainly was not pushing him to work hard or be consistent here. If "the right direction" was being lazy and not living up to his vast potential then "God" did a great job. Good ****ing riddance.
KLV760 By loading up on draft picks, Ireland may have sealed his fate. Next draft could determine much of #Dolphins future. Trust Ireland? KLV760 Tannehill being good will help Ireland, but T-Hill will only be successful with pass-catchers. That looks pretty solid. #Dolphins
Those weren't "facts". Those were your opinion. You don't know a single player in that locker room to make any of the statements you made. Learn the definition of "facts".
I'm sick of "trusting" Ireland. All he's done is jettisoned the Dolphins best players for draft picks he has spent on bums. He is a failed GM. And he'll continue to be a failed GM. He is a cancer.
