Keep in mind, the problem with signing a Williams or a Burress on a 1 yr "prove it" deal is even if they perform, you then have to pay them, with the youngsters you control their free agency fate for literal years.

Tannehill is the future, we have to stock the cupboard around him for 2013 onwards, a Vet does not offer that to the franchise this is one of the patsies secrets for staying under the Cap and competitive yr after yr.

The depth has the potential to be pretty good, but it all largely unproven. Trading for Jones would add a relatively young, 28 yrs old, fairly proven WR with talent. He was stuck behind Driver and Jennings early on, and now is stuck behind Jennings, Nelson and likely Cobb. He knows the system pretty well and IMO the transition would be as seamless as it could get moving from one team to another. He should still have a good 5 yrs at peak ability.
Obviously, Philbin knows him better than anyone, and if we don't get him there are likely reasons none of us know about. Looking at things from a fan perspective though, it would seem to me trading for Jones, unless their asking price is just totally outlandish, would be a nobrainer.

    Problem with Jones MrC:

    -Dropsies
    -Pricey
    -costs draft choices (potentially)
-Top 3 Qb throwing him the ball as it is

What would help our situation is Hartline getting healthy in a hurry, but this injury seems to be lingering.

Do you even know how his drops compare to the other Green Bay receivers, or is this just your perception?
In 2010, did you know Nelson dropped more passes in less targets, and Driver dropped the same number in slightly more targets?
In 2011, Driver dropped more passes in the same number of targets, and Cobb dropped a higher pct of passes targeted to him.
Jones did have the most drops or drop pct among Packers WRs in 2009 and 2008, but it looks to me like he has improved a lot since then. Recent history would be more pertinent to me than distant history.

In 2011, Hartline and Jones had almost the same drop pct. Hartline dropped 7 of 66 targets, and Jones dropped 6 of 54. So, if Jones has a problem with dropsies then so does Hartline. Jones also had a 70% catch pct and Hartline had 53% catch pct in 2011.

Fact of the matter is none of us know how high a draft pick it would take to get Jones, but IMO he is worth a 4th or later for sure.

Not right now. There is nobody out there worth bringing in.

Wait until the first round of cuts and see who is there.

We could use someone that is for sure. Just don't hold your breath waiting for Jeffy to call Williams.

Might cost a middle pick for Jones but hell it is better than waiting for that mid pick to develop in the future.
Seven TD's is good production. Learning curve would be short.

if i was the gm i would bring him in and i would use a next years 1st round pick to snacth up mike wallace. we need to use a 1st on a wr anyway, theres no point in making tannehill look bad this year. he needs weapons and all he has is bess.

I'll take nibbles on RR. Never hurts to bring him in and see wat's goin on.

Many will point out all the yards and BM's 6 TDs we are 'gonna lose' this year in comparison.

My take is I screamed more at the TV for BM ineptitude inside the 20 than anything. I don't care if he got 2k yards in a year. If you cannot bring it inside the 20, we have a problem. If RR works out and only gets 20 a game, I'd be satisfied to see it in the 20 that counts.

Bring him in, test drive him. All I can ask.

Did the free agent rag last year with the right tackle. It doesn't end well...You'll supply endless better alternatives and these alternatives will turn around and help other teams become better.

At least that's how it went down with Colombo; Alex Barron with the Ravens and Brian Watters with the Pats...Ireland has taught me to be reactionary rather than speculative.

I like the idea of rolling with Gates, Rishard Mathews, Wallace and Julius Pruitt along with Bess and Hartline. Nannee never impressed me as someone that you have to have. Since we cant PUP Hartline and even hurt cutting him is stupid when he is still better than half this wr corp. Hsartline has built up equity, yes he is using it up, but he has it.

Glad to help in that regard.
Gawd knows we need something this season to inspire some awe. I ain't felt this negative at this point of a season since 2007.

I would be down to give Roy Williams a shot if we weren't in a West Coast offense....if I'm not mistaken he was very ineffective in his second year in the league with that offense

Bringing in older veterans is not in line with how Philbin wants to build this roster. I am not saying he will not every do it, but for the most part he is looking for guys to develop.
