I took it as a more general directive. I am sure that Philbin and Ireland will wipe their *** with "personnel" suggestions from the leadership council.

You're really reading things that aren't there. I said I got bored with that specific activity, mainly because I had already listed a bunch of examples which I believed supported my point readily enough.

You said they would try to keep Bush because of his leadership and work ethic. I disagreed because of Ireland's roster history, which I then went on to detail to the point of boredom, and a likely desire to allocate the money Bush would want to Jake Long. You mistook twice the act of listing supporting detail as attitude.

That's not an argument with myself, that's you not replying to my supporting points because you'd rather accuse me of having attitude. So be it.

First of all, the attitude I perceived had nothing to do with you listing "details". Its the incredulous way with which you asked if we've watched the same team for 4 years and then stating you're bored when you engaged me.

Secondly, you've changed the argument 3 times and act like you haven't.

You claim Ireland will cut a vet with leadership and a high level of play for youth he drafted. I ask you to prove it with examples. You provide zero examples of that specifically happening then pretend that wasn't the discussion.

    So just stop it already.

You're not actually addressing anything I'm writing in any of my posts. You have an imaginary "incredulous" post--incredulity was not the emotion I wrote that post with, it was disbelief and mild surprise--and a disclaiming of points and support that I actually have written.

The only attitude here is coming from you, and I'm going to reciprocate the snarky comments you're writing in your posts to me to illustrate that point.

    So just stop it already.

Haven't gotten the chance to watch EP 3 yet, but the Chris Hogan thing is interesting. he seems to be flashing what you want in a young receiver, and maybe were just getting a HK setup and drama line...but its interesting that he's being held so low or the WR coach opinion is what it is - given what were being shown. Intriguing little storyline...wish we had the full picture. Certainly, a 3/4 WR option that can get reliable separation play after play would be a huge benefit to a rookie QB. Really wondering what happens with that side of the chart all said and done...

Sigh. Fine. The attitude was all mine. I was bored. I was making things up. It was all me. My bad.

Now, what leaders that were playing at a high level did Ireland dump for youth?

I wouldn't necessarily say "doesn't like him" as all we got are a couple of snippets to go by. But aye, I'd definitely agree that he doesn't seem on the Hogan bandwaggon. But maybe it's simply because he's afraid that all the 7-11 talk will go to the guy's head even though he's not really ready to beat NFL starting CBs right now. Keeping him buried on the depth chart for now could also be a way of telling him, you still got a long way to go. Because judging by some reactions here and in blogs and even national outlets, Hogan is indeed becoming somewhat of a cult hero ...

You all know that Jerry has had a big bullseye on his *** from me since camp first opened with him at first string. Said he would be cut......still leaning that way. However, if he plays well at Atlanta and they keep pushing him to throwing up (which they should have been earlier) he might just survive the year. Should have been riding his fat *** a lot earlier like that.

Quite frankly though that boy needs an offseason cook and daily trainer. Jerry at 325lbs is a starting RG....but right now he's Jamie Nails circa 1 year out of football between Bills/Miami.

I'm not necessarily sure that Jerry is a lock to be cut. The staff may have discovered that riding Jerry hard will get the most out of him. There is a good chance IMO that he makes the team over Steinbach.

He's starting at right guard right now. You're not going to start a guy the week before the third preseason game if you have any intention of cutting him.

Again, I didn't get the impression they were there to give their opinions. I thought they were to say, if you have a player getting out of line, tell us and we'll see if we can get through to them and then maybe you won't have to cut them.

I don't think they're doing that because of innate improvement on Jerry's part, but because the other options aren't appealing.

We need to remember that Jerry looked better against Carolina's third string.

Maybe, but if he was on the verge of being cut (or a lock to get cut like some media pundits are putting it by way of obviously only having watched the beginning of this week's episode), he wouldn't be working with the ones at all. They apparently want him to win the starting right guard job and you're not doing this in the final legs of the preseason if you're not reasonably sold on someone.

That's the impression I got about the "council" too....not in a "we have say in who gets cut", but as you point out, more of a "tell us" so we can take him to the woodshed and get his mind right, player to player, in an or else kind of way.

the way steinbach has talked in episode 3 i gladly take jerry over him, also the stuff they showed when he was on, was pretty cool, i also liked the way they used him at practice, throwing up and stuff, he needs to be worked like this more often, i think we keep him now

The best point about Jerry was the "wake up" moment of being told that the real shame is that "you are letting your teammates down".....maybe a light-bulb moment for sure. We need the light-bulb to turn on for all final 53 to get it and finally play at the top of their individual talent, and buy in to the TEAM as well.

been a long, long, long time to see the peak of an individual, and find the mesh as a team too.

I think Steinbach could be cut because he's not playing well on the field and is straight up thinking of retirement.

yeah. but back to what the qb coach said, although i think moore is one of the better back up qbs in this league... i think charlie batch is probably the best. but its hard to say for sure because if you put qbs on other teams, all of a sudden they are better or worse. lol

one of the things i think HK showed this week is that anyone can be a go-to WR for a few minutes. last week it was Hogan, this week it was Rishad [something].
fact is, you have to do it against the 1s and do it consistently if you're going to make a name for yourself.

is it me or does Philbin spend a longer than normal amount of time talking to the players? i don't recall the HC spending so long doing it in previous series of HK...

It may just be the nature of what they have focused on, and what is unique to this season of Hard Knocks. New coach, QB battle, Releasing Chad Johnson, and then Steinbach this week.
I'm sure Philbin talks more than some, less than others. And he will likely talk to them less in future seasons once they know each other better.

He sits next to Sherm in the booth during games. Only comment I ever heard from him on Hogan was something about him becoming a cult figure or cult hero.

You know why I believe more from that sit down? Because it was barely edited. ;)

But you bring up a good point.

Of all of Philbin's sit downs, which would you put at the top of the depth chart?

The depth chart sure does not seem to jibe with who plays the most or lines up with the 1s. Sometimes Wallace and Fuller have lined up with the 1s but are way down the chart.

Also, last week the guys here who have worked editing reality TV shows before said we should take all comments with a grain of salt because we don't see all the footage that gets removed. Who knows what else O'Keefe may have said about Hogan, or what else any other coach may have said.

To me the retirement conversation was him asking Joe, "If you plan to cut me, please let me know ahead of time and I will retire instead to save some face."

This is a former pro bowler and all
American talking to his college O-Line coach who first moved Steinbach from TE to Guard.

Only fitting that Philbin could bookend his career by helping him exit gracefully and without embarrassment.

With another week in, it does seem that the WR depth chart tells less of the whole story. Other than Bess and Hartline, there isn't a single WR I'd be shocked to see get cut. It is even harder to tell in an offense like this where mismatches are so key. A guy may be low on the overall depth chart but his specific skill set puts him in with the 1s more often.
My optimistic guess RE Hogan is that they know they love him, but he is a Bess backup, and they need to find the other two WRs who will start alongside him.
You know my pessimistic view of Hogan is Bush gave him a clever knick name and Hard Knocks found everything they could to build that character, and ignored anything that didn't.

My "reality TV" take on the WR coach liking Hogan or not based on two sound bites is that Hard Knocks isn't concerned with trying to report he thinks. And that he probably doesn't speak in TV friendly hyperbole like say a Dan Campbell does comparing Devlin to Romo.
