Tannehill is #17. His first start as a Fin came last week on the 17th. He is the 17th starting QB for the Fins since Marino, as it has been 13 years since #13 was a Fin.

Neither Garrard nor Moore were going to take us much further, if any, than Tannehill will. People keep putting Garrard on a pedastool some odd reason. We werent going to win 10 games with Garrard. Garrard really isn't/wasn't all that great! Moore is worse.

In 1988, the year RT was born, Marino had -17 rushing yards......that count? :shifty:

If not, what about Marino's career lasting 17 years?

As for whether Tannehill earned the job over Garrard or not, I think it is telling they they announced Tannehill as the starter this early when they could have legitimately waited. It shows confidence in Tannehill. By committing to him as the starter this early, it also means he isn't on a short leash until Garrard is healthy.

I was very encouraged by your camp reports. You made no bones about your preferences of the available QB prospects prior to the draft, so I knew the kid had really impressed you.

I’m hoping the Dolphins version of the WC offense more closely resembles the Texans than what has been shown so far.

I have no problem with Tannehill being named the starter. I would have just liked to see Garrard healthy during the preseason so Tannehill could actually have some real competition for the starting job. While I appreciate Moore coming in and leading the team to victories against sub 500 teams last year. I never felt he was a quality starter in the NFL and I thought that Garrard was an upgrade over Moore when they signed him.

At least now the coaching staff will have all the regular season to evaluate Tannehill and determine if he is the QB this team needs to lead them into the future. If he shows that he has the skills to be a top tier QB in the NFL, great. The Dolphins can consider their search for a QB over and they can start drafting receivers to help him in the future and defensive players to upgrade what will prove to be a declining defensive unit, this coming season.

If on the other hand Tannehill doesn't appear to be the long term answer at the QB, the new GM can do what is necessary to move into the top position in the 2013 draft, and draft Matt Barkley with that pick.

I don't think anyone was favoring Garrard b/c they wanted the Fins to win the max amount of games possible this season, let alone delusions of 10 wins. They wanted Garrard so that we could protect Tannehill a little from what appears to be a dumpster fire everywhere else on offense.

Neither am I. to me we will run more stuff from the inside out with the Rb's and Te's being much more involved in the offense

The Oline scares the beejubus out of me.

I think Tannehill's coming in and unseating a quarterback who had an 87 QB rating and by the head coach's account had established a leadership role among his teammates is quite the accomplishment.

I hope Tannehill is the long term answer at the QB position. I just happen to think that Matt Barkley is going to be a top five QB in the NFL during his career. I would imagine that if the Jags would have been able to draft Luck or RG3 in this years draft, they would have had no problem giving up on Gabbert after one season.

While I wasn't someone who wanted the Dolphins to draft Tannehill with the 8th pick in the draft. He is now the starting QB for the team I have been a fan of since 1966. I hope he is the next Marino and that the Dolphins have found their QB for the next decade or more. Yet, if Tannehill plays like Gabbert did last season, the Dolphins will have a new GM next year, and his job won't depend on Tannehill as much as Ireland's does.

I just think Barkley will be a pro bowl type QB, and if he is available to the Dolphins, and Tannehill doesn't appear to be the long term answer at QB. The new GM should certainly consider drafting Barkley. Hopefully Tannehill will have a great rookie season and the idea of drafting Barkley won't even be an issue for the Dolphins in 2013.

The one thing that makes me feel better about Tannehill's starting is that we appear to have coaches who have the intelligence to minimize and work around the ill effects of the weak defense and the poor receiving corps on his rookie development. I wouldn't feel that way if Sparano were still the coach.

I don't think there is any chance whatsoever that the Dolphins will be drafting a QB in the first round next year.

Yea, why worry about the WR's? As Ireland stated, they are loaded with 4, 5 and 6 type receivers. It the 1, 2, and 3 type WR's they are short of. If Tannehill can make this group of WR's receivers effective in the NFL. He should be voted into the HOF, after his rookie season.

I realize that the possibility of this happening is very unlikely. I just happen to think that Barkley will be a better long term NFL QB than Tannehill, and therefore I am merely expressing my opinion on the QB I would like to see as the teams QB over the next decade. Of course I would rather have had Luck, or RG3, in the 2012 draft and that didn't happen either.

I am just repeating what the teams GM expressed. Personally I think Bess is a very good number three. As far as 1's and 2's. I agree with Ireland and that is about the only thing I have ever agreed with him about.

Another fun fact...It's been 13 seasons since #13 retired. It took Miami Dolphin GMs 13 drafts to finally realize we should probably spend a first round pick to replace him.

I feel bad for you, I really do. For the past year or so, you have spent every day of your life loathing everything about the Miami Dolphins organization. For your dreams to come true, the Dolphins have to suck so bad that Mr. Ross sells the team to some fantasy owner that may or may not be any better. Good luck with that.

This is like sucking for Luck all over again. Most people wanted to suck for Luck others wanted to win out after going 0-7. It turns out we Won For Tannehill and that's not too bad for many Dolphin Fans.

I get where you are coming from but we can't dwell on could have, should have, what if. It's really all about winning NOW.

IMO, it is only quite the accomplishment if he puts up numbers at least as well as Moore did last season. I am guessing he'll post numbers more similar to what Gabbert did last season.

Very interesting quote by Philbin. Could their thought process be that they dont want to throw Tannehill out there for 16 games behind this offense as it currently states, and want Garrard to take the brunt of the beating until the team is ready to support Tannehill's development. But that if Garrard wont be ready to start until Week 2 or so, why waste that 1 game on Moore? Give the kid 1 or 2 games to put some stuff on tape and gather some stuff to learn from, and then backup Garrard for half the season or so... while mixing in some reps here and there (like Shou's idea) along the way?

If so, I'd be a lot happier/more comfortable with the idea...

You don't think that both the OL and WR are problems?

I certainly agree that OL is the bigger problem, especially once Hartline returns. But outside of Bess and Hartline- does this team have any reliable targets at WR? I'm not so sure. Wallace hasn't shown he can get it done thus far, and I would say the same goes for Moore as well. I am hoping that Hogan and Mathews emerge as solid WRs but that is a huge wildcard.

Someone is delusional if they think were going after Barkley next year. No situation in which that happens.

As far as the no 1's/2's/3's talk. That's such BS. Bess has always been a solid #3 and Hartline is at least passable as a #2. Just need Hartline to come back from whatever injury he has.

Did you see Fasano 1 on 1, drive Charles Johnson 2-3 yards into the end zone on the play where Lane picked up the 3rd and 1? Best blocking TE in the league IMO, especially now with Witten out with a ruptured spleen.
