To me? This is his audition, plays well and he will be the starter week 1. We will see if he seizes the moment tonight, something all great QBs have a habit of doing.
I'd like to mention that this post has AKA. RockyRaccoon is a bot. But, now I have to find a live feed tonight! I was going to wait for a replay... not anymore. RT all day!
SportsCenter @SportsCenter Source: @MiamiDolphins plan to start QB Ryan Tannehill for tonight's game vs @Panthers http://es.pn/Or4jLN Ben Volin @BenVolinPBP If Tannehill plays well tonight, the QB race is pretty much over. If he struggles, it complicates things. But deck is stacked in his favor What do you guys think on the twitt by Ben Bolin? What happens if Moore plays better than RT?
Awesome. I just hope that he has a couple of good series. Because I think Moore will look good against the 2's and be compared.
Ben Volin's tweet is right on the money. If Ryan Tannehill plays well tonight then that will be 3 for 3 as far as outperforming his competition in GAME settings (Scrimmage, Tampa, Carolina). At that point, he's essentially won the competition. However, if he clearly underperforms Matt Moore, and especially if he seems to really crumble against starters...then we've still got a complicated situation.
IF he lays an egg Philbin will have a hard time meeting his week 3 deadline to name a starter. Garrards injury has made for some real uncertainty.
yeah, this is his chance to take the job and earn it... lets see how he does... one other note, with how good Garrard was playing, I wonder if the coaches still want him to play once he is healthy... so if you start Matt Moore week 1 you can easily swap him out for Garrard when he is healthy... but if you start Tannehill week 1, and the Garrard comes in healthy it'll be a huge controversy to pull the kid for Garrard... So here is how I see it... if you start Tannehill week 1, then Garrard is your 2 and Moore is your 3 which makes no sense and one of them should be traded... If you start Moore, you can then plug in Garrard when healthy, and Tannehill is your 3 for a while and see how the season plays out... Tough decisions for the coaching staff, excited to see how tonight effects things
I just hope our offensive players afford him the chance to dictate his own fate. Don't drop balls, don't leak the line like a sieve. Let Ryan's play speak for itself and give him a chance to win or lose the job
While I think RT seizes the moment and takes the starting job, if he falls flat on his face tonight, and Moore plays well (we know what he is already - a very decent QB), then I think we have to re-evaluate just when RT should start. Even if he does struggle, there's a school of thought out there to still throw him out there and learn on the job and get better. Then there's also the school that says go w/ the more stable guy out of the gate first, and gradually move on to the rookie. To me, if he even shows flashes of brilliance tonight, mixed in with some struggles, you start him week 1. He'd have to go like 2-10 with a couple picks for me to lose faith at this point.
It was always a soft deadline and he's said so pretty explicitly. What he'd like to have happen, and what actually happens, are two different things.
If it was Moore who was #1 and hurt, i'd agree.. I'm not sure Garrard has enough reps to have a shot at week 1 start with this injury. But, you never know?
Ryan Tannehill was criticized in college for how he handled high pressure moments. This is a high pressure moment. He can go one of two ways. No pressure, or anything.
I hope Mel Kiper and a lot of people I know of are paying attention. I never understood the notion that Tannehill NEEDS time, but you never heard the same about RGIII I really hope he wins the job, which would be super impressive given the player he beat out. Say what you will about Matt Moore, but the guy was the 9th rated passer in the NFL last year.
Is the ability to able high pressure moments something a player can learn how to do, or if you suck in high pressure moments you'll always suck in high pressure moments?
Is he making excuses already in the event Tannehill plays well? This guy has a serious agenda I think he's going to put up a billboard next about how Tannehill only excelled against Miami's 1's without Dansby and Mr. Burnett
(((Rookie QB+Few College Starts) X New Offense) / Crappy receivers) - Great Training Camp = Bad Idea To Start Rook Early
All things pointed to the fact that it would be best to sit Tannehill and let him learn from the sideline while adjusting to the speed of the NFL. From us bringing in Philbin coming from GB and the Favre/Rodgers model, the fact that we have two capable veteran QBs on our roster, and the fact that Tannelhilll had limited starts in college, it is easy to see why there wasn't a perceived need to rush Tannehill. You said it yourself, Moore was 9th rated passer last year. However, I don't think anyone expected Tannehill to perform as well as he has, so that throws everything out the window.
I'd like to think the decision to start Tannehill in the regular season would be based on more than how he plays one preseason game. What if the way he plays this game (good or bad) is in no way indicative of the soundness of the decision to start him in the regular season?
**** Omar. Just because they don't have their two star lb's doesn't mean he can't look off the second string.
it was a tounge-in-cheek post referring to the other thread regarding starting or sitting Tannehill. Coaches gonna coach.
I love how we're not babying this guy. "Hey go start with ****ty wrs on the road in carolina, in cam newtons shadow, in matt moores former stadium and his former team so he will probably play well against the 2s" Lets see what ya got kid!
I would say that he's just trying to temper excitement in the event Tannehill does well, because if he puts up 2 TDs and 150 yards people will be deeming him Marino pt. 2, and he doesn't want to get us that excited..... buuuuuuuuuuut, it's Omar. so, yeah. Probably just an agenda
Anyone who cant watch the game but is out of television range should send me a PM, and I'll do my best to PM them back with help towards accomplishing their goal of watching the game. Just saying.
not everyone said he needs time http://rotoworld.com/articles/nfl/40266/60/draft-2012-the-quarterbacks "Despite common perception, Tannehill is neither a project nor raw. His command and control of the pocket rival top prospects in previous classes. I do not see the multitude of poor reads and throws others seem to perceive. In fact, the way in which Tannehill succeeded at receiver while attending both position meetings and instantly flashing mature quarterback qualities is stunning. After viewing 12 of Tannehill's 19 starts, he ranks as my eighth overall player, and I'd bang the table for the Browns to draft him with the fourth selection. "
I hope RT has a solid game and can learn from any mistakes tonight and OL does their job and keep him healthy.
Assuming he plays well in this game: That would be 2 preseason games, the one and only preseason intra squad scrimmage, and from what I read more than half the practices in training camp where he has outperformed Matt Moore
