I don't really like that this has repeatedly been an issue. It looks very much like candid, in-house criticism passed on to players without the coaches realizing, and the player is being asked to react to it by the media. This isn't really being couched in a lot of constructive criticism, or looking like carefully crafted messages to the player.

It is one thing to hear it from coaches. Its another to hear it from coaches, and then have it public opinion. I love this Hard Knocks both because of entertainment and because I think it will help these players

IMO this is really a positive. In my experience most players don't realize what people really think of them. They tend to feel things are going well and then feel blind-sided. Polite people tend to offer criticisms with positives to minimize the hurt and the person receiving the criticism tends to give them all equal weight rather realizing that the whole point of the conversation was to offer the criticism. I have no doubt that Wallace hearing that comment about ankle weights opened his eyes.

i couldn't agree more! i did 3 years in a ministry program and it was everyone's job to "rebuke" the people that were in the program for less years and you pretty much described that process that i highlighted in bold print. I often saw the same problem with what you were referring to.

I like how the coach ( wr coach ? ) approached him and said he has to find out why he is not a starting wr in this league as he has height , weight , speed etc. etc. Why isn't it translating for him . Like all coaches , Philbin reitterated consistency , Wallace minus the TD catch he should have had , was strong last week , now to build on that with a solid week of practice and then produce in this or the next game , whenever he gets his chances.

I think the offensive coordinator is just gonna lay it out there, and the carefully crafted stuff is going to come from the position coaches.

Remember that the coordinator's job is to get the entire unit functioning as it should, and if one guy is getting in the way of that, he has to let him have it for the benefit of the unit. The position coach can then get with the guy and work with him on more specific issues.

If I'm part of that offensive unit and I feel like one guy is keeping it from functioning well despite my best efforts, I want the OC to rip him one like that. Send the guy a clear and pointed message so my unit can start playing like it needs to.

Remember that in the end this is a team. If you're too sensitive to be told when you're letting your team down, perhaps you need to go play tennis so you can just let yourself down.

It's football. When I played I got dress down from my HC. Our OL, QBs, RBs everyone gets a dressing down...It's indiscriminatory. IMO HKs singled out who they wanted to show to write a story. It happens...you're supposed to rise above it.
